  1. .45acp is easy as pie - low pressure, straight wall, load it till you lose it. Check out the Lee Factory Crimp die and Bulge Buster. They do a helluva job! 9x19 is trickier - high pressure, tapered brass, proper crimp is critical as bullet setback can result in overpressure and a very bad day. .223Rem is just a lot more steps (lube, delube, trim-chamfer-deburr, swage if crimped, clean primer pocket) and even higher pressure. Brass failures are much more common (split necks, incipient head separation are the most common) +87 on the ABCs of Reloading
  2. It's the same for a PA resident selling to a NJ resident. Meet at a NJ FFL, use a valid PPP, and carry it home. Been there, done that (at a boat dealer FFL in Flemington with the seller coming down from Stroudsburg a couple of years ago.)
  3. The hollow point EXEMPTION statute 2C:39-3g(2)a reads as follows: Nothing in subsection f. (1) shall be construed to prevent a person from keeping such ammunition at his dwelling, premises or other land owned or possessed by him, or from carrying such ammunition from the place of purchase to said dwelling or land, nor shall subsection f. (1) be construed to prevent any licensed retail or wholesale firearms dealer from possessing such ammunition at its licensed premises, provided that the seller of any such ammunition shall maintain a record of the name, age and place of residence of any purchaser who is not a licensed dealer, together with the date of sale and quantity of ammunition sold. Because there is no exemption for transporting from one residence to another, the appeals judge felt compelled to let Brian's hollow point conviction stand. New Jersey and really crappy gun laws ... PERFECT TOGETHER
  4. At what oven temp and for what length of time should I renew (fabric) dessicant bags? Common sense tells me that the larger bags will take longer than the smaller ones and should probably be agitated during the heating process to ensure that the entire content of the bag gets dried. Thanks in advance, guys!
  5. NOT according to the appeals judge in the Brian Aitken case. The hollow point conviction was the only one allowed to stand on appeal because THERE IS NO EXEMPTION IN STATUTE for transporting from one residence to another. Welcome back to the gulag, comrade.
  6. to the OP: The Lee press is only $174 for a reason Remember, in this world, you generally only get what you pay for. And loading .223, there are a number of steps that need to be done to prep the brass prior to loading that are better accomplished in a single stage press setup rather than a progressive. jmho for what it's worth
  7. NO Just follow the simple instructions already, before you go to prison for your crime.
  8. http://www.theblaze....ll-dies-in-l-a/ Check out the videos in the article. In the "Layla sequence" video, when the trash men are tipping the dumpster, does the second trash man (with the glasses) look like a cameo appearance by David Letterman??
  9. The grip safety needs to be depressed for the slide to be moved rearwards. It looks like you left it out and installed the slide anyway. I'll give you $100 for the broken piece of crap Service model
  10. But how else was he supposed to dry the Krylon???
  11. If all you want is 1 lb of Varget, go to Millers. No sales tax, no haz mat (and if you go the looooong way (Scudders Falls) no bridge toll)
  12. No powder or primers at Ed's in Deptford When NJ raised the license fees a few years ago, they let theirs lapse Millers in New Castle Delaware gets my ftf powder and primer business Powder Valley gets my bulk mail order business Midway, Rogers Better Bullets, Wideners and MidSouth for projectiles
  13. It's a NJ Gun/Ammo salesman (at a NJ FFL's premises) license. Must be conspicuously displayed at the FFL location.
  14. Best "local" bet for good choice of powder and primers is Miller's on Rt 13 just north of the Wilmington DE airport. Delaware River bridge toll is offset by no sales tax. Look for the big sign "GUNS" on their rooftop (on the right as you travel south on 13)
  15. By creating a permanent dent (ring) around the brass inner magazine tube, the spring-loaded follower inside will only travel far enough to allow 15 .22LR rounds to be loaded in the rifle. A bit of measuring (and trying) is in order. Worst that happens is you totally ruin the inner tube and need to buy a new replacement from Midway, which you will, of course, need to alter to make the rifle jersey-legal. (Midway Product #: 836115, Marlin #: G5075220-00) Remember to replace the cutter wheel with a washer so you don't cut the brass inner tube.
  16. You don't have to cut anything! Re-read post #2 in this thread And welcome to the forum.
  17. When the OP looks at the rifle, he will see it is plainly marked ".22LR" As a semi-auto, it will NOT properly feed shorts or longs due to the length of the elevator in the action. So when the tube is crimped to allow for a capacity of 15 .22LR, yes it would hold more .22Long or Shorts, but they are not the ammo specified for that weapon. This is the same weapon that cost Joe Pelletiere his FID and his voting rights. There is NO EXCEPTION in NJ Assault Weapon law for tube-fed rimfire semi-autos. (There is in NY, though)
  18. Unmodified, it's an illegal NJ Assault weapon. To make it jersey-legal, remove the inner magazine tube. Get a small tubing cutter (as used by plumbers) and replace the cutter wheel with a similar sized thin washer. Use the modified tool to score (not cut through) the brass tube to prevent the follower inside the mag tube from going far enough to have the completed assembly (tube inserted in the rifle) accept more than 15 .22LR cartridges. Voila! Jersey-legal
  19. The upper is just a collection of hardware, and can be shipped through the US Mail, if you choose. However, you should be aware of the dangers of "Constructive Possession" here in the Glorious PRNJ And welcome to the forum
  20. Not Jersey-legal Exceeds the weight limit (50 oz unloaded as manufactured) http://www.ruger.com...heets/4901.html Store it under the floorboards with Joe Pelletieri's 17-shot Marlin 60 and Uncle Joe's Korea bringback M1 carbine
  21. Gun #1 - no problem Gun #2 - as long as the current owner is a NJ resident, you're ok If he lives elsewhere, the transaction must go through a NJ FFL Either case, you need to burn a PPP Remember, as soon as the NJSP copy of the executed PPP gets into the system, if there is 'history' on that gun (by s/n) red flags will pop.
