  1. Very cool! I've been interested in those for a while (I've wanted a TT-33 ever since Enemy at the Gates came out!)

According to the Zastava website, the M57 is Single Action... still the case with the M70A since the website doesn't mention?

    Its single action.

If you can spare the permits get both. Downside is that the 7.62x25 is pricey now.......so 9mm will be better to start with.

  2. I have the same gun. Bought it last year. Love the bluing. Really nice.

All metal. Love how i can wrap my hand around it. Cant beat the price for a new all metal gun.

They take the M57 frame and put a metal block to fit the smaller 9mm mag instead of the 7.62 mag.

The trigger will get better the more you shoot it. Really like how Zastava put a real usable safety on.

I have about 800 rds down the pipe. No problems so far.

  3. K var sucks! I want to get an upswept carrier for my sar 2 and they say that it's illegal . They claim it's illegal to sell full auto parts to nj residents... Why do people make the crap up

Were you looking for one now or a year ago?

    From ARF.com

anyone got a source for an upswept ak74 (aims 74) bolt carrier other than KVAR?

I wanted to get an upswept carrier for my sar 2...I went on and ordered one from KVAR and they called me and said "it's not legal in NJ"..which is not true at all...so, anyway, they won't sell me one so I need to find one elsewhere (unless some one here wants to make $35 and get me one)

  4. Good to know, hopefully it shouldn't take too long to get my SSN since i applied for it through the visa, though I understand the government is absolutely incompetent in sharing information within its own agencies. Do any of you happen to know how long it takes to get a non-drivers ID in NJ? Takes about 3-5 days after applying to get your ID here.

Both Drivers License and Non Driver ID you can get in one day provided you satisfy the requirements.

Go to NJMVC page and see what they are: http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/

-You ll need a Social Security Nr for both. So that s the key here.

My wife also applied at the time her immigrant visa was issued and it arrived in 10 days.

When you are processed after arrival (the DHS officer will escort you to the back room) ask them when should you expect the Social Sec nr.

.......and if you don't know already this .pdf download it, it will answer many questions for you.

If you have a Swedish Drivers License you have to pass the Theory test only, no driving. And you can use your Swedish license for one year. But if you don't get an NJ one after one year use of your Swedish then you have to pass driving as well. Get an international drivers license as the NJ Cops don't really know how a Swedish one looks like. If you don't drive then forget all the above.

From my early days here the best advice i can give you is to get wheels and fast as soon as you can. You ll need them.

For the FID application fingerprinting you ll have to schedule an appointment and that will take 10-14days wait from time you call.

The state has outsourced the fingerprinting to Morphotrack and you need to get this done.

Dont apply for an FID in Long Branch, apply when you rent/buy your place in Somerset. The FID. Address and the NJ identity document address have to match at most/all dealers.

  5. I will be applying for FPID then, assuming I don't run into any bureaucratical problems seeing as my green card won't arrive until probably a month later. Hopefully I'll be able to convince the police department that my stamped and endorsed visa will suffice as evidence of residency, as it is supposed to do.

Your endorsed visa is proof of residency status. It doesnt prove where your residence is. For proving where you reside you need to show a drivers license to the police or a state issued ID. Plus for the FID application you need your Alien Nr. Green card should arrive 2 weeks after you re processed at point of entry.

For the FID application you ll also need your Social Security Nr.

  6.

    those ranges are expensive.

If anyone has any other ideas, they are much welcome as well.

My suggestion is that you get over here first and then get a fell of the place and this hobby.

It's not a cheap hobby by no means and NJ has high living costs as well.

Also count on what you ll spend on gas and tolls to get to where you ll be shooting.

You ll discover that the 129$ spend on a mosin is minuscule related to the above costs and the ammo. Also you ll probably want to get more than a mosin after a while like a handgun/shotgun or something.

Range 14 is 60$ a year plus 3$ an hour I believe and you ll drive a bit I get there.

I m sure the a few people can guest you in at their range and then you can see if you want to make the investment.

  7. Good to hear about the 90 day residency thing.

When you say go out west, how far west do you mean?

    I'm from Stockholm, Sweden.

As of 2 yrs ago the BATFE removed the 90 day proof of residency.

With a green card you will get delayed a bit when the FFL does the NICS check (30-45min while they look up your alien Nr).

Out west like here out west:

Sweden....cool.......i have family in Orebro :)

  8. As I understand, as a legal permanent resident (ie. green card holder) I'm entitled to own guns provided that I apply for the FPID card and provide proof of 3 months of continuous residency in the State of New Jersey at the time of purchase. This is specific to "long guns" only, I'm not sure if you need to provide something when you apply for a handgun purchase permit.

The reason I'm so enthralled with going shooting in the forest is that it'd be really nice to just go to the woods with the wife, rifle on the back, enjoy the beautiful lush greens and changing leaves, shoot a few rounds off and pick some apples or some shit. A bit of a boyhood fantasy of mine.

I understand also that CCW is practically out of the question in NJ?

You no longer have to show 90 day residency but you have to follow state law

    https://www.atf.gov/content/Firearms/firearms-industry/FAQ-firearms

As for forest shooting, go out west. Around here its very hard to do that unless you find private property.

What part of Europe are you coming from? You dont have to answer if you re not comfortable.

  9. You're fine to apply for your FID then. So it seems you know that :) I believe nonimmigrant status under certain exemptions can obtain FID as well.

    Yep,

He s good to go with a green card.

Non immigrants can buy long guns with a passed hunters education class. Hard to find an FFL who can do the transfer though as this is a very specific situation.

  10. Hello friends,

I will be moving from Europe to the U.S., specifically NJ, soon. I'd like to exercise my adopted second amendment rights and acquire a firearm. I intend on purchasing a bolt-action rifle.

For my question, is it legal to go to a public forest for target practice/to shoot off a few rounds? I've heard conflicting answers, some saying no, others saying yes, others saying yes but only if you have a hunting license, others saying it is only legal on private land where you have landowners written approval, and so on. If anyone has experience in this, it would be much appreciated.

I'd also love recommendations for outdoor ranges near-ish to Somerset County, good for newbies like me.

I wasn't sure where to post this, please excuse me if I have posted it in the wrong forum.

Gun ownership may be limited to you depending on your status.

    -J1

    -H1B

    -L-2

    - Green Card

    - US Citizen

    Keep that in mind.

As for shooting in a forest I wouldn't do that if I were you. There s a number if ranges where you can get a membership and shoot.

Some are below 100$ a year some cost much more.
