  1. GSSF is great... it will give you the opportunity to buy a discounted Glock (it looks like they're about $510 now... 19/17/22/23's are less), but it will also allow you to patticipate in other GSSF programs, such as indoor and outdoor matches and the armorer's course (which entitles you to purchase at armorer's pricing, which is a bit less). To my knowledge, Lawman is the only participating dealer in NJ right now. I vote you join GSSF and see what they have to offer whether you buy the G34 that way or not. Other options... If you are police/fire/EMS or military, ask wherever you buy if that qualifies you for any special pricing. It might, especially at Lawman (because they are the official LE dealer in NJ, and Glock considers all of the above to be first responders... your mileage may vary of course). Use the forum price comparison tool. Great folks here. I have purchased from Mike's in Fairview. Good guy, has a good selection and gave me a reasonable price. If time is a factor (depending on when your permit expires) call around and see how long each shop will take to get your G34... that might be a deciding factor in itself. If you buy from a LE place, or anything blue label (or even if not, just ask), verify what connector it comes with, if that matters to you. Most people assume G34's come with 3.5# trigger connectors... the LE models may have 5.5#'s (mine does... it's written right on the box label). This may or may not even matter to you... I like the 5.5 better, the 3.5 lacks a positive trigger reset IMO. But if you get the 5.5 and want the 3.5, it may cost you up to $25 to swap later.
  2. "however, no Permit to Carry or FID is required: 1. To keep or carry any firearm about a person
  3. Call the police. A) The people/activity was suspicious. B) You went through the trouble of getting the plate and a good vehicle description. They may be looking for that vehicle. Others may have called in similar suspicious activity. C) Why would you NOT call!? If you live in the mountains (or a rural area, as I do) you know people call for really little things, such as a report of bears nearby (Really? Bears in the woods? You don't say...). Your concern is legit. Just call the non emergency number and tell them what happened. D) What does having had the FD over last week have to do with it? The FD comes over every time I cook...
  4. He's lying!! Ask him for tips on shooting the elusive 500 score. You can pick the order of the courses of fire, and you can shoot the same stage in two divisions in the same visit to that stage, or come back to it later for the second division. If entry and ammo costs are not an issue, then shoot both divisions. If they are, just shoot am-civ (or am-guardian if you're police, fire or ems - paid or volunteer, or military). You will see shooters of all levels in each division. Accuracy is more important than speed, so take your time if you need to, but don't dawdle if you don't have to. There is usually a side match of static steel plates or something, find it and practice there first if you'd like. It's usually $5, fastest time wins, but it's also a good place just to get warmed up for the day. You can sign up for the match online, but you don't have to specify a time (and if you end up not going, I think they'll credit the fee towards your next match). If you sign up that day, there's a $10 walk up fee, which they waive if you have the GSSF email about the match. Also, if you're a new member, there is a free new member drawing for a Glock, and if someone refered you they will enter you both in the drawing. (I think the refering member has to go with you to enter the drawing... so if you're going with someone find them and go enter, and if you want a refering member and don't have one, find Old School or myself and we'll enter with you... we love winning stuff! ) Have fun! GSSF is a nice bunch of people, and a fun way to get into shooting matches if you haven't before (and it's fun even if you already shoot steel/IDPA/USPSA). Bring a chair and water in case you have to wait at a stage (it's not usually too bad), or just want to hang out.
  5. I'll be there Sunday doing Am-Guardian and Competition.
  6. Congrats on your trip! Looks like it was fun and educational... going up to Sig Academy in NH has been on my "to-do" list for a while, but I'm going to have to "settle" for the more local stuff for a while (Pocono Pistol in PA is hosting Sig classes too now). Not that close (1 1/2 hrs from Vernon) but have you checked out Old Bridge RPC's steel matches? I think they have at least 2 a months, in addition to the big steel matches there. http://worldclasssteel.com/
  7. I don't believe that's correct... When I took the armorer's course, I asked about updating the frame of an older G17 for a friend who is a police officer and uses rail mounted lights, etc. He currently has an aftermarket rail attatched to the frame, since the earlier generation didn't have a rail, and had heard the same thing you did, that frames could be updated to the current generation. When I asked, the answer was that no, they don't update the frames... a new frame would have a different serial number, and would not be the same firearm. Of course, check with the folks at Glock for the official answer...
  8. Woman's Day at CR is July 10, 2010  http://anjrpc.site-ym.com/?Range_schedule I think that's his daughter... LOL
  9.   Cops (and firefighters, and our military, and others in public safety) put their lives on the line to keep others safe. They kiss their husbands, wives, children, and parents goodbye when the leave for work, planning to see them again in 8/10/12 hours, but knowing they could be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty to keep YOUR husbands, wives, children, and parents out of harm's way. What's a fair amount to pay someone who's willing to put their life on the line for others? Just my two cents...
  10. Regarding gun sales at Walmart... I'm not sure if Walmart is phasing this out. I've noticed my "local" PA Walmart (Milford) has hardly any stock, as if they are not ordering any more, just selling what's left. During a recent trip to the Hershey area (for the PSA Shootout steel match ) I stopped at several Walmarts along the way (for other reasons, beverages, sunscreen, etc, lol) and found NO long guns for sale... lots of ammo, but no gun case anymore. It was kinda sad. :?
  11. I was there! I'm mostly a lurker though, don't have many witty or insightfuf contributions...
  12. You can also have slide cover plates engraved with your name, logo, or anything you want at RockYourGlock.com http://rockyourglock.com/ I have not had much luck filling the engraving in with a color, I think it's too shallow. But it comes as black with silver engraving, which also looks sharp on it's own.
