Ha, yes I figured that would be a reaction. Couple points. First, there are many factors that go into finding a place to live besides an NRA ranking. Never did I suggest people should leave NJ for CO, but to think hard about what place makes you happy Maybe it's Vermont, maybe it's Texas, for me it was Colorado. Second, lets compare the 15 round limit in NJ and CO. In NJ: 1. Violation is a 2nd degree felony with more jail time than assault with a deadly weapon 2. Venomously enforced by law enforcement and judiciary looking to set an example out of gun criminals 3. Likely to move to 10 soon, with 5 on the table. In CO: 1. Violation is a ticket 2. The Sheriffs Association and many law enforcement agencies already declared they will ignore the law 3. Reasonable chances of being reversed. And if we look beyond the 15 round limit, once my permit arrives in a few weeks I can carry concealed, while drinking, while smoking weed, in a bar in the airport. I can also buy a Class III weapon and text you about it while driving a motorcycle without a helmet. And while I would not choose to do all those things at the same time I have the freedom to make that choice. Feels pretty good to me. No place is perfect, but I'm happy here and glad I moved. The point is that if you're sick of New Jersey, stop shoveling sand against the tide and complaining. Focus your efforts on finding a better life.

Friends, It’s now just over a month since I moved to Colorado. I can’t tell you how liberating it feels to be free of the nonsense I endured back in NJ. Liberating, as in “liberty.” it’s something you really don’t get just by visiting, you need to stake out a home to really feel that peace of mind. I’ve maybe been a bit too preachy recently cajoling you all into giving up on the lost cause that is New Jersey. My intent is not to be abrasive, but to hopefully get some of you to wake up into a reality check. Gun rights are done for in NJ and the prospect for improvement is so slim as to be borderline delusional to hold out hope. The population of NJ hates guns and hates gun owners. There will be an annual tide of gun control bills again and again. Even with the most heroic efforts of NJ2AS and NJRPC, victory will be defined as slowing but never defeating that tide. Occasionally there will be trivial “victories” such as getting towns to reduce the number of forms for an application that give false hope like the occasional win at a slot machine. But like a slot machine this game is rigged in favor of the house and it’s a losing game for you. Perhaps the saddest recent developments are the instances of infighting among gun rights advocates over which is the worst of NJ’s oppressive laws. Like rats in a cage. The only rational answer is to get the hell out of the cage. And even there were a 2A miracle and the entire gun law scheme were rewritten, what exactly are you left with in this state? Crushing state debt, punishing taxes, crumbling infrastructure and a population that believes the answer to every problem is government money or a new law. It’s just going to get worse as people like me leave, there will be fewer and fewer contributors supporting more and more takers. I know moving is not easy but people relocate all the time under difficult circumstances. People lose jobs, endure disasters and are forced to stake out lives elsewhere. So I urge you to ask yourself, how bad does it have to get before it’s bad enough to leave? It’s only a matter of time before the state reaches that point. The sooner you move the less time you endure this place and the sooner you can start enjoying a better life. There are plenty of great places in America where life is good. Spend some time visiting those places and think hard about what type of place makes you happy. Then make a plan and follow through on your own timeline instead of waiting for things to get bad enough to force you out. Best of luck to you all, Lorenzo

That's why I bought a lifetime supply of magazines when I bought my P30s. Once they are about to become illegal it will be too late. If Christie vetoes this year I suggest you do the same. This will keep coming back until it passes.

There would probably not be active confiscation, but who knows how certain towns might approach it (Jersey City for example). More likely is that if the police catch someone with an illegal magazine through other encounter like a traffic stop they will inflict maximum punishment to make an example and instill fear into the other owners who are on the fence about complying. Rest assured you would go to prison for longer than an armed robber or murderer.

I totally agree. The pass or veto of this particular bill is a small blip on the overall downward trajectory for gun rights in NJ.

Just one guy's worthless prediction but I think Christie will veto the magazine bill for the same reasons he vetoed the .50 cal ban. As a political animal his primary objective is to avoid getting caught in the gun control debate which would be a lose/lose for him. He wants to avoid angering constituencies on either side of the issue. He was able to slip out of the .50 ban by saying he's in favor of "reasonable restrictions" but that this particular bill was problematic because of overreaching on the details and extent of the ban. I think that without grandfathering or compensation for existing mags, bans on rifles like the Henry, etc. he gets the same type of out. He gets to avoid taking a real position by saying he would "consider" something reasonable but that this particular bill just goes too far. Just a guess, in the end who knows how his political calculation will be made. That said, if the magazine bill fails this year it will just keep coming back until it passes.

No flavor of Hornady Critical Defense has passed the FBI's minimum penetration requirements, and the only variant of Critical Duty to pass is the .45 220 gr +P. Pick any of the loads listed on Gary Roberts' list then perform sufficient function testing to be sure it feeds in your gun.

Yes, every year more tax paying people who contribute more to society than they take leave. Fewer remain to support the growing nonproductive population. Eventually it all has to collapse once they can't keep borrowing to pay for it, and NJ goes the way of cities like Detroit. If you can find a way to leave on your own terms before it falls to pieces completely, I urge you to do it. We are where we are because the people of this state have lost their way. Republicans and Democrats in this state no longer value the sovereignty of the individual and expect the solution to every problem comes from government money or a new law. Yes, it's the people. Do you realize the biggest mistake that the anti gun crowd makes? It's their obsession with the NRA and the "gun lobby" as some type of mind control boogeyman nefariously working against the wishes of the people. They don't see that the NRA is made up of millions of individuals who all care about gun rights and mail their $35 each year, and the millions others who share the same views but just don't join. They make this mistake because gun rights don't make sense to them, so the only explanation, combined with wishful thinking, has to be that if the NRA can be defeated the rest of the world will wake up and see their truth. I am sorry to say that in the upside down world of NJ, it's the gun owners who are obsessed with boogeymen rather than facing the sad truth: the people of this state don't like guns. They hate guns and the people who own them. If you hang around at the range or this forum confirmation bias sets in and you start to think this little gun rights community is more representative of the general NJ population than it really is. Who are those boogeymen? The usual suspects who are blamed in this thread and others on this forum. Politicians. Main stream Media. Bloomberg. This is comforting because if the problem is limited to any of those, then there is hope to change it. But that is false comfort that distracts from the real problem. If you want to make real progress for gun rights in this state, you will need to fundamentally change the world view of millions and millions of people. That's much less achievable than marshaling a campaign to get out the vote, or writing a letter to the editor. I'm sorry that this state is lost, but it is. It's a sinking ship beyond saving and you can either find a way to abandon ship or go down with it.

I use the "Todd Green" trigger configuration on my P30: light FPBS, light hammer spring and heavy trigger return spring. The heavy TRS makes a very positive reset, although it's a bit long. I'm not interested in spending the cash for a GGI job, plus I prefer to keep it all factory to make parts replacement easier. So I'm sticking with this configuration unless or until the factory 4.1 shows up.

GrayGuns is one of the few places I would trust to perform trigger work on a gun that I rely on. The RRCP they performed on my 1994 vintage P229 was superb. Please give us a report on the difference on the LEM trigger. I'm committed to the LEM system but often wonder if a shorter takeup and reset might be beneficial. There is also a version "4.1" factory LEM reduced reset option that is rumored to be on the way, but I'm not holding my breath.

I totally agree with you on that point. The lack of a SC decision affirming the right to bear arms outside the home leaves us vulnerable everywhere in the US and we cannot take for granted that even those places in America where gun rights are respected are safe. My point is simply that in lieu of federal court rulings imposing reform, NJ will continue to get worse. Unless you intend to become a martyr it's time to abandon a sinking ship and continue the fight elsewhere, where the efforts are worth something.

None of those bills will ever, ever, ever pass in NJ. I'm sorry to say success in gun rights in this state will now be limited to slowing the constant onslaught of gun control bills. The 10 round limit may or may not pass this year but eventually it will get through. Totally crazy bills like annual home inspections will be defeated with constant effort by the 2A community, but gradually more and more "moderate" controls will pass every year. Occasionally there may be a 2A "victory" with trivial improvements in the administration of the permitting process, like eliminating extra forms and speeding processing times. But in a world where you need a permit to read and the government limits how many books you can buy, does it really matter if you can buy 1, 4 or 12 books in a year or that the application is reduced from 10 to 8 pages? If gun rights are important to you, find another place to live.

I humbly suggest to everyone here that your energy is better spent making a plan to leave this state and following through on it, instead of tantrums or banging your heads against the wall. This state is a lost cause and nobody here can save it. I am out in one month.
