  1. This sounds to me a lot different than a FID concern, as in they're calling to check about issuing your (already long-since issued) FID. This sounds like somebody complained about you or someone made some sort of thinly veiled or outright inflammatory 'warning' like 'Joe Blow is disgruntled at work and mumbling about retribution' or even something ridiculous as, you and Suzy Cue got into it regarding a local parking spot or who had to pay the tab for your disastrous dating times, and now she's making sure you remember her etc. OR As stated it's a bogus non-cop. I could go on and on about the things it could be, bottom line, it doesn't sound right nor proper and if it was me I sure as sugar would want to know the genesis of these calls and who needs what information from whom about me and my firearms.
  2. http://www.aimpoint.com/us/press/news/nyhetsvisning/article/aimpoint-launches-new-carbine-optic-192/?cHash=ba61e6dfaef96dcbce3742cb01e298de Aimpoint, the originator and worldwide leader in electronic red dot sighting technology, has announced the introduction of a new sight designed specifically for modern sporting rifles such as the AR-15. This new product, known as the Aimpoint Carbine Optic (ACO), expands upon the company’s already proven designs and focuses these features into a high quality, entry priced optic. This new sight was developed with the modern sporting rifle owner in mind, and the ACO is ready to mount and shoot directly out of the box. A full suite of branded accessories, such as front and rear flip covers, an anti-reflection filter, and spare battery holders are available from dealers, and allow users to customize the sight to fit their specific requirements. The ACO pairs a 30mm aluminum alloy sight tube with an extremely rugged fixed height mount designed to provide absolute co-witness with AR-15 backup iron sights. A two minute of angle (2 MOA) red dot is utilized to allow maximum target acquisition speed and accuracy at all distances. The ACO is completely waterproof, and offers one year of constant-on use from a single 1/3N battery. Looks a lot like the Patrol Rifle Optic with a different mount and different battery... Optics Planet is listing it @ $393 at the moment.
  3. I came close to buying one the first few days I moved to FL in April. I got down here, got moderately situated, and went to check out the in-town gun shop I had found on the web during my research before I actually arrived here. I was shocked and disappointed to see they had like, maybe 20? guns actually in stock and the rest, of their extensive inventory 'in stock' on their website, was , uh, 'in stock' at the 'distributors warehouse..... you know, in stock for me to order and have it shipped. ' That was a little whack but anyway. I really wanted to buy myself a firearm over-the-counter as a moving to FL present and since, you know, I could do that down here. But money is always an issue but EXTREMELY issue-causing during a move where money flies outta your pockets. I wound up checking out their Colt Government model 1911 .22LR ... pretty nice. It was cool because while it was a .22LR it still "felt like a gun" ... one of the things I llike but also others dislike about say my .22LR S&W M&P 15-22 rifle is it is soooo light, it can feel like a toy. The Colt 1911 .22 feels like a WWII style 1911 gun, metal and GI sights . hammer, etc. Felt good and looked like a lot of fun. He was pretty high priced so I said I'd think about it and then did some home research. I found out they make a .22LR version of the FDE Rail Gun, which looks just like the Colt Marine M45 gun so I thought I'd order that.... I wound up saving my money and buying myself a real gun for moving, a Sig MK25 9mm, and later in the summer bought a Smith and Wesson M&P 22 Compact to satisfy my .22LR niche. -- the M&P22C has been amazing, pretty much outstanding. - I'd still love to have that .22LR 1911, but I don't HAVE to have a Colt. Sig had a sale earlier this year on their black, OD Green, and FDE 1911 .22s, I think it was Grab A Gun, $275 - hard to beat with a stick. Anyway good luck whatever you choose.

    FN SLP shotgun

Did you decide and or make a purchase yet by any chance brother?
  5. While I absolutely love my Sig MK25 - I read nothing but bad things about the Mosquito. However, while this is surely little comfort to you, I am fortunate to have a S&W M&P 22 Compact and got it even before it hit the general market - it has been awesome and has been nothing but awesome ... Further, it has continued to 'break in' and after about 400-500 rounds, it has got to be absolutely flawless with even Federal Bulk 36 gr HPs .... even though these are truly popular and quality bulk rounds, an autoloading rimfire pistol might choke on bulk HP rounds. after a few mags to get going, it's improved steadily to the point I shoot 100-200 rds at a time without a single error. If anyone else is considering a rimfire pistol, I highly recommend the M&P22C and actually they're going for much cheaper now than at release.
  6. Just wanted to respond and make a point - well a few points. As far as the Shield, grip, and trigger goes, it's awesome and people who haven't tried will be very pleasantly surprised. The beauty IMHO of the Shield is that with the flush-fitting magazine it makes a very concealable, petite package that tucks in just about anywhere. Yet you still get a three-finger purchase that is the same if not much better than a 'Baby' Glock 26/27 because of the thin profile and amazing grip angle of the Shield. However, when you add the extended-magazine, the grip actually becomes nearly exactly the same if not a touch longer than a G19 - which is not only one of the most common and popular concealed handguns it's also one of the most popular duty handguns. So with the Shield you get basically the absolute best of both worlds- On the fly. You can simply swap magazines to go from great concealability to great shootability. About the jeans and pocket carry- I would have to agree. I wouldn't be pocket carrying it in jeans unless they're really oversized, painter pants style jeans. Back in 2012, I invested in about 12 pairs of pants and 4-5 shorts from LA Police Gear. They have an amazing lineup of pants/shorts with an AWESOME setup of pockets. Not only are they roomy and comfortable, but they're equally adept at work or at the range. They have an awesome setup of pockets that varies according to the exact model but all of them include like 6-8 minimum and they're made of a ripstop-style cloth that looks like business slacks. So I am wearing these probably 4-5 days out of 7. Plus I don't care what the kids fashion is these days, skinny jeans are ridiculous imho, I am a man and I need my space. So my jeans are baggy and have some room - BUT i still wouldn't be pocket carrying in jeans unless it was the only option. However, I believe you COULD do it with the Shield if you had to .
  7. just FYI - I am 5'8" and 140lbs. 145lbs. at the very most during a bad bad month. And I pocket carried the Shield in my right hand pocket for the 1st month I owned it, every day, in an $11 Walmart-purchased Blackhawk "Inside-the-pocket holster for Glock 26/27, Kahr PM9, and most other subcompact 9mm/.40 S&Ws" ... and it was fine. So I cannot abide those who say they can't see how the Shield can be pocket carried. I am not a big guy and I did it all day every day for a month. And I rode the Gator for hours with it in my pocket, drove my Jeep , mowed the lawn, etc. Now I obviously never planned to do it forever, nor do I claim it is THE answer to someone looking for a pocket pistol. But it can be done. I bought it and I just didn't have the cash to buy a real and proper CCW holster at the time as I blew my money on the Shield and such so I spent the $10.97 on the pocket holster and saved up. The next month I bought night sights, gunsmithing, spare mag, Galco King Tuk hybrid IWB etc. and I am happy but , I certainly pocket carried it for a month.
  8. I have a Shield that is a bit over 2 months old. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. One of the best firearms decisions I have made in my purchasing and collecting history. Without going into too much personal detail , when I moved to FL I immediately started my CCW License application process. I shortly after bought myself a moving present, a full-size gun that I had no intention of carrying. My license came back in near record time and I did what I had planned, carry my Glock 23 I have used as my main gun for years back home in Jersey and in FL. However it became apparent I was having trouble concealing the G23 and carrying it was not "easy" ... I am not a big guy, in this heat I am wearing shorts and a t-shirt or maybe polo shirt, every day, for 6+ months out of the year , maybe 8 or 9 months. I tried a few things but I realize I needed a full-time gun for full-time carry. I searched and researched and spent a long time going over options but settled on the Shield 9mm and I couldn't be happier. Simply a great gun- worth double the price and that is a fact. I have had total success with it, not one flaw or problem shooting from dirt cheap 115gr to top-shelf high-quality 9mm 147gr JHPs, from Federal to Hornady and even WInchester Black Talons. The gun came with nice white 3-Dot sights but I opted to replace them with TruGlo TFO day/night sights... an awesome option. Other than an extra 8rd mag, I haven't done much (Although there are copious trigger/action options you can do and the company Apex is extremely popular on the S&W forums). You can get these for like $350 now online. Seriously, if I paid $700 for this I'd be perfectly happy. Just an amazing pistol. I am not saying any other guns would NOT be good, simply this is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite guns and seldom leaves my side.
  9. Hey I was wondered if you had not been feeling well or something! I had posted at least 5, maybe even 10 posts without you disagreeing with whatever I said! I am very glad to know everything is obviously fine! and let me state, calling PVD a metallurgical process is shaky at best. Every definition of the process states it's a coating - literally the definition of it is a coating. A coating applied so that the metallurgical properties of the substrate remain absolutely constant before and after. Tenifer/Melonite is a metallurgical process. The substrate properties are enhanced after the process. You can support whatever finish you like, it's fine with me, my feeling is that Ionbond is nowhere near as nice a finish as Cerakote, and Googling the subject brings up pages of people agreeing (and disagreeing and supporting finishes not described here) - but it's not like I decided this and no one in the world has ever thought the same thing.
  10. Remington rimfire ammo sucks lemons. Pretty much same story as you with me and my original 597... none of my guns like ANY variety of Remington rimfire ammo. Until 12/12 I wouldn't buy any at all... now I take what I can get. If I happen to come across Remington .22 I'll just use it in my bolt - action and or save it for SHTF. Federal and CCI are my preference.
  11. I concur also about Savage... while I cannot speak to the semiautomatic 64, I have the MKII which is basically the same rifle without the gas system, 64s are semi and MKIIs are bolt-action. The GXP model I bought is a Dick's Sporting Goods combo package special... G stands for wooden stock (which IMHO is REALLY nice!) ANd the XP means combo pack rifle with scope. I put a sweet Nikon ProStaff 4-12x40mm BDC scope on it, and some extra mags, other than that bone stock. Simply amazingly accurate and reliable for such a cheap price. MSRP 199.99 and I got it for sale price of 149.99 ....almost stealing. The best part is it shoots absolutely any .22lr so I can take chances on buying any 22 I can find. If my 597s, 15-22, or M&P22C can't shoot it or chokes with it, I just shoot it in the MKII. The 64 is I believe identically priced and similar models as the MKII, just semiautomatic. You might really like them, especially since Savage is known for accuracy and value pricing.
  12. This sort of thing is despicable. The problem as I see it is that there is NOT enough backlash and shunning and therefore "consequences" of stealing valor and making false claims, inflation of military credentials or blatant falsifying of records and training etc. Too many basically lie from the start to finish. They get caught and then pull the EXACT SAME THING this mothertrucker is pulling, "Dont get all bent out of shape its just a mixup no big deal leave me alone haters gon hate!!!" Oh and btw I have a hotter wife amd she defends me vigorously ... then dbags-in-arms like Yeager defend and deflect because they are cut from the same tactical tunics... basically the same type of joker. There is a lot of stuff online about jimmy yeags resume being anywhere from embellished, falsified, to downright lies .. I couldn't care less because I wouldn't waste my time on him unless it was like this, part of another article. Look at the case the Supreme Court ruled you CAN steal valor... that Mexican? I think? Or Puerto Rican older Marine guy first denied he did anything wrong, then switched gears to a version of, Haters gon Hate! Then basically won his case by claiming, I can claim anything I want and its none of your business. And it's no big deal what I claim. And he won. If there was large scale shunning or big time public embarrassment maybe the people would think twice etc. Look at Dave Canterbury. I was discussing him while watching Dual survival 3 Years back in a video stream chat room, and called it that he was no sniper and was making false claims, he turns out to be a big time emnellisher and falsfied a ton of the claims he made.... and he knew he was famous enough that this could seriously affect his career chances after losing Dual Survival. He made a YouTube and said, listen, everyone is talking about me and why I got canned, did I do it (Cory his partner basically threw him under the bus with a FB post) ..... yes I did! Im very sorry, I wanted to get the job, increase the profile of my school, and most of all help my family and take care of my family. I got to accomplish those goals but I lied and I was wrong, I am sorry, its shameful, I hope you can forgive me. -THAT is a man responding in a mans way. Having your trophy wife claiming people are lying and malicious is nearly as bad as the valor stealing. I say, public shunning and lots of it. Too many men and women have died and been maimed etc. For stolen valor and military falsification etc to be no big deal.
  13. I have two Remington 597s, and they are amazing firearms that get a WAY worse reputation than they deserve. YES, The original magazines from the time this gun was born were very bad, and the "Second Generation" magazines were not a perfect fix. The THIRD GENERATION, from 2007-2009 on, are absolutely fine and there are basically no "bad" mags on the market anymore. The other problem with the 597 is the extractor sucks - my first 597 came out of the box not running very well at all, borderline terrible. I wound up spending the $60 bucks on the Volquartsen internal upgrades - $20 for the "Exact Edge Extractor" and $40 for the "Target Hammer" - and I cannot state in strong enough terms the results: The rifle is absolutely amazing. And I mean amazing. I have not had a single issue in 1000s and 1000s of rounds since I did the replacements, and the accuracy of this rifle is superb. Remington spent a lot of money on the barrels of the 597.. the stock "sporter' barrel is one of the finest 'production' rimfire barrels in American-made guns you will find in any close to this price range- and the Heavy Barrel is literally superb. I bought the HB model for my Dad for Christmas last year - and I ordered the Volquartsen parts as well which I replaced immediately after giving them to him. This rifle is like the thing you'd want to have at a Boardwalk- literally can "Shoot out the star" at the indoor ranges 25yd line, it is absolutely amazing. Do I recognize it's nowhere near the popularity of the 10/22? Absolutely, but I have said it before and I will say it again- I DID NOT WANT a 10/22. Everyone can have fun with theirs and enjoy membership in the 10/22 cult.. I wanted nothing to do with that. Having said that ,a little bit of love goes a LOOOOONG way in the Remington 597s, I have two that function flawlessly and always get questions at the range, what is it you have that is so accurate and so flawless in it's operation? And also for the record, I have 10 10-rd magazines (Factory Remington 10 rders) that work just fine, plus 2 Remington brand 30rd mags since I moved to FL, a clear and a black. All flawless. If you just give this rifle a little bit of a chance and a little bit of TLC it will reward you big big time.
  14. I bought myself a Sig P226 MK25 in May ... I shot it some, kept it handy for Home Defense , but June came my CCW License and I started carrying my Glock 23 , by the first of August I had bought a new dedicated EDC gun in my Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 9mm. I had sort of left my MK25 lying idle for a while and set about taking with me each time I went out to shoot my Shield. I plan on going into detail on my own thread but I just got back from shooting my Shield, M&P 22 Compact, and the MK25- I continue to be amazed and dazzled by the MK25 ... it is am AMAZING GUN. I never have shot so accurately as with it ... Not that I am claiming to be Wyatt Earp here but the MK25 even makes me impressed with myself . Absolutely accurate- like having a ray gun. It feels tremendous in the hands and the trigger just feels GREAT in Single Action. (Double Action is fine too but it's not like I sit there putting 50 rds down range in DA..) -- I mean this gun feels and shoots amazingly. the ONLY thing I'd say is as the esteemed colleague and gentleman above showed,, I'd probably go with the Desert model. Cerakote is a superior finish to the "Nitron" finish Sig calls Ion Bond PVD coating. And of course it looks better. But otherwise this gun is just amazing... I cannot knock any of your other choices but I can HIGHLY recommend the Sig Sauer MK25.
  15. Just so you know, 2 relevant points - the M&P22 is basically discontinued, as Smith and Wesson has already completely dissolved their corporate partnership with Walther ... who handled the production of several popular rimfire firearms in conjuction w/ Umarex including the Smith and Wesson M&P 22. That is one of the main reasons Smith and Wesson decided to bring the M&P 22 Compact in-house, which is completely made by Smith and Wesson.. the second point I wanted to make was , it sounded like you were inferring you wanted the full-size to teach shooting rather than a "Compact' firearm. It is my wholehearted belied that Smith and Wesson simply had to fulfill some sort of altering the design to make sure it wasn't a patent infringement or something technical like that... so they made and called it "Compact" - but it is not a compact pistol. It's supposed to be exactly 87.5% the size of the M&P "full-size" pistols but you barely notice it. It's very light in the hand, but feels great, not compact at all (like the Shield DOES feel compact.). Just wanted to throw that out there, I would personally be looking at the M&P22C since the M&P22 is discontinued.
  16. I have become a big M&P fan and these look like awesome pieces - the S&W Performance Center produces some awesome guns... Really great examples of American skilled engineering, skilled labor, fine fine detail and workmanship etc. These are pretty much something I'd love to have, couldn't really see myself buying but if I won in a contest I'd be very happy to have. I have two new M&Ps.... a Shield 9 and a 22 Compact - they were both literally hot off the presses, made in June and July respectively and I bought both in August. People have had problems with S&Ws just the same as anyone else's products, but mine have been flawless and fine fine firearms. If anyone makes the jump and gets one of these I'd love to hear some experiences, a big boy 5" ported, Performance Center M&P w/ a red dot sight would be a heckuva race gun.
  17. Yeah I will admit I should have went with the MK25 Desert. I took advantage of an incredible sale and didnt want to wait and save more money for the D model. However the Cerakote alone would make it worthwhile. Sig Nitron finish, aka IONBOND PVC coating, ain't the best stuff. I really hate the texture , the way the metal feels to the touch. Also, unless you keep it wet with an oil coating, it goes battleship grey in color. However gun wise, it's an amazing gun otherwise.

You could also check out the Mossberg 930 SPX - amazing gun. Gas operating system that auto-regulates itself depending on the load, I have had this since Feb 2010 and it has been 101% FLAWLESS! PERFECT. They come with the best sights you can buy in LPA Ghost Ring Sights, there are a few different versions now , I looked on your website there, Buds, and 5 or 6 models come up. It's an amazing value that competes directly with the FN SLP at less price, I looked at both the FN and the Benelli M2 Tactical back in 2010 and lucked out with the M930SPX.
  19. Yeah I take your point. I bought a Glock 23 back in the day, which is called a "compact" but is not really compact, I prefer to think of it as more-accurately-described "Mid-size" .. I always assumed I would carry that, CCW, in addition to it being my personal defense gun, HD gun, etc. It was not at all compact enough for me to carry every day, especially not in Florida heat w/ shorts and t-shirts everyday. Now I am very lucky in that the Shield is plenty of fun to shoot at the range, but I can see you not wanting it if all it's doing is going to the range. Anyway, I love the M&P line. Also have the new M&P 22 Compact, that is one fun gun right there. Maybe considering the VTAC .40 , maybe. good luck sir.
  20. I bought myself a Sig P226 MK25 in May as moving present down here in FL... there was an amazing sale and I'd always wanted one so I just did it. Absolutely amazing gun. Flawless and full of class but power and plenty of toughness. It's a Sig... silky smooth combat pistol. I also like .40 S&W and would really really like a 226 Elite Stainless one day; that is, had I known it existed before I bought the MK25, I might have had to go with that... just looks so classy to me while retaining toughness. I shot my MK25 last week at a range here, ~200rds ... it makes me more accurate than I've ever been with a pistol. Significantly more accurate than I have ever shot. And it feels good too.
  21. You may want to check out the Shield 9 ... many people who are S&W / M&P owners have commented they like their Shields much more than their M&P9C's and furthermore many have sold theirs or left idle to buy the Shield. I recently got a Shield for every-day-carry (having moved to FL) and I simply love this gun. Couldn't be happier. I bought a Sig Sauer P226 MK25 in May, and the poor thing sits around idle because I love the Shield. I can't even fit my beloved Glock 23 into the carry schedule... right now I have my Shield with my basically all day, everyday, everywhere. just a thought, you may not care for it.
  22. Thank you for your polite inquiry. . Please allow me to inform you, despite the fact I'd have preferred not to get into it. Our house burned to the ground and left us temporarily homeless, without a single possession, and devoid of any and all worldly goods, family heirlooms, clothes, or anything at all. The rebuilding process required digging out the concrete foundation, as that was the only thing left , and digging a new area for foundation, which then left a very large amount of dirt that got piled into the backyard area... resulting in a large mountain suitable for shooting into. Satisfied?
  23. My Dad and I have discussed this a few times, we both think I MIGHT have/probably did shoot before ... but we both agree on a memory that we generally accept as my first time. A life-event caused there to be a humongous dirt mountain in our backyard, which was already on a dead end street surrounded by farm fields. It started with him picking me up from school, (1st grade ) and he had me fill a bunch of two liter soda bottles with water... then go place them on the dirt pile. Then he started smiling, because I still didn't figure it out... so he produced his .38 Sp S&W revolver he carried when in plainclothes as a detective. And all I can say is, man I got excited! The first few shots I fired, he was behind me with his huge hands around mine. But as I got comfortable and I did get very comfortable, he stepped back and let me take over. I am not sure if I hit any water bottles, but I hit the spot inside of a life long love. I was 6, and as I said, we think there might have been times before but we both remember this particular time.
  24. Sorry I didnt mean to kill the thread, I apologize for interjection
  25. I moved to FL April 1st.. got my stuff together and mailed my completed (resident of course) CCW application on the first Monday of May, I believe ( unable to get a CCW-licensing-satisfactory-class until that Sunday, I want to say the 4th so Mailed the 5th). it went into the system sometime that Wednesday afternoon; that is, Wednesday morning I was not in the computer, Wednesday evening I was in the computer pending... and I got it the first of June I believe, I think I took 29 days. I had been following several forums postings about the time, I was one of the recent-months record times, pretty amazing to say the least. I had my application filled out right away, had my finger prints done by the local police department and submitted electronically at least 1-2 weeks prior to my application being sent in, and made absolutely sure everything was in order (I also sent a USPS Postal money order for the payment.) Some people have waited the full 90, or close to it, PLUS - if your application needs more info or is temporarily rejected for something, the clock stops and does not start back up, ie- if you use a blue pen and they send you a letter 60 days later saying you haven't filled it out properly, they have all the time in the world, not just 30 days more. EVERYONE from the helpful local police to the CCW class instructor to two different local gunshop owners told me , Make absolutely sure your application is not only complete but completely proper- if you mess up with an unapproved photo, or sized wrong, didnt write the info on the back of the picture, miss a circle filling out the app, etc. spelling errors, they can bounce you back and wind up costing you time time time
