  1. Thanx again everyone for letting me shoot your guns. I had a great time. After shooting Matt's DW 1911 I think I want my first gun to be a 45.
  2. tonight at 7:00. I'm in the same situation as you, still waiting for a FID.
  3. I'll be there. I'm the guy who is still waiting for a FID but loves shooting your guns. A special thanks to georgemc and ChrisJM981.
  4. Expect to see more of it, as well as an increase in violence against others, as the economy worsens and or continues to stay bad. I'll just chime in here on something. Part of what I do for a living brings to me awareness of global shipping, both air and sea as my company uses both to get things from Asia to the US and Europe. We also ship from the US to Europe to Central America and any combination of three back and forth. Until recently, there was so much excess capacity in the system, the boats were running slowly to save fuel and so they wouldn't stack up at either end of a trip. Air freight, until recently was dirt cheap as planes were flying half empty. All this changed in the past 90-120 days. We're starting to have to wait on boats again and they're running full out, not quite like 07 but more like 06. I know a guy that's 3rd seat on a 747 for freight hauler and their 14 planes are booked out and they are looking at picking up more planes for capacity. Six months ago, they were looking at retiring 4 planes. The air freight system collapsed 6 months before we knew we were in a recession, they are a leading indicator and all indicators are pegged. Take it for what it's worth. Sounds like a positive indication to me. Unless all the traffic bypasses the U.S. and is between Europe, Central Asia, and Europe and they are trading in Euros.
  5. Those were the good old days. Did you guys ever work with Windows 3? If you hear of openings for any Desktop / Admin spots please let me know.
  6. thanks going out to ChrisJM981 for meeting up with me and letting me shoot his Glock 9mm and S&W 22. I appreciate his effort in feeding my newfound addiction to shooting.
  7. Sad thing that happened at The Bullet Hole last night. I was really looking forward to meeting you guys and firing off some rounds while I impatiently wait for my FID. ChrisJM981, georgemc If you guys want to meet up today at 12:00PM when the Bullet Hole opens, I'm in.
  8. georgemc, I can be there early tomorrow morning, but I must warn you that I am a newbie waiting for a FID. I live nearby so if you want to meet let me know.
  9. What time? Actually I'm in as long as everything is alright with The Bullet Hole.
  10. I used Firefox for years, It worked fine, but would crash, rarely but it would. I tried Chrome and never looked back. It's been a year since I started using it and it has never crashed and is the faster than Firefox and IE.
  11. Its been 3.5 weeks since I dropped off all the paperwork. My detective called at least one of my references this evening. Any chance I'm on the homestretch? Yeas I should be so lucky. On another topic I was speaking with a friend of mine who is a nurse and she said that the mental health checks are done within 48 hours. All people who have been committed to an institution at any point, with a mental illness that could lead that person to be a danger to society are tracked in a national database.
  12. I guess Anthony likes to use the other side. Imperial - Since you live in Lyndhurst, BH is in your backyard. Way closer than BA. It's convenient for me too. Not more than 10 minutes to get there. I like the 92FS also, and the PX4, and the 90-two for that matter.
  13. imperial, Thank you, I will surely take you up on your offer to shoot your 226. As far as what I what gun that I want to get get I'm still very much undecided. We shot a PX4 9mm and a S&W 686 with .38 bullets while taking Anthony's class on Monday. I like the way they both feel. It was my first time shooting and I thought I did pretty good, but I really don't know. On this pick I had the target turned around where it looked like a bowling pin and I was aiming first for the Q in the center which I could barely see once I lined up the sights, then the head area, and then the throat from about 25' or so. I turned it around when taking the picture because it looks cool this way. I'm assuming that it is against range etiquette to shoot at a human figure. I want my first gun to be a semi and I'm debating between getting a 9mm or a .45, or maybe even a .40. I really like the idea of a .45, but will probably end up getting a 9mm. As far as which gun manufacturer, so far I'm leaning towards a Beretta, but I know there are a lot of excellent gun-makers to choose from.
  14. Yes you did djg0770! Thank you all, I will see you guys on Tuesday.
  15. Hello everyone, I am new to the sport. I applied for a FID a little over 3 weeks ago and took Anthony's NRA First Steps course with my friend nunnayer recently which I think was great. While we wait for our FIDs to come in djg0770 most graciously invited us to come to the meetup on the 30th (thank you). Unfortunately of course we do not yet have any guns to bring so I just want to make sure its cool that we come down and hopefully you guys can let us fire off some rounds.
  16. Again, thank you all for the warm welcome and words of wisdom!
  17. djg0770, I believe I will take you up on that offer on the 30th. There seems to be a really cool community of people at The Bullet Hole. Would it be possible for my friend nunnay to come also? We took Anthony's class together and he is just as determined as I am to shoot again while we wait for our FID's
  18. jon, I don't think you will be bored. Anthony is an excellent communicator and will cover all the necessary subjects of the course. If you have developed any bad habits or practices this would be a good opportunity to recognize and correct them. Since the course is necessary for a CCW in those states I don't think you could go wrong, and I'm pretty sure you will find it worthwhile.
  19. I applied in Glen Ridge on 3/3/10 for a FID and 2 permits. The receptionist was very cooperative and helpful. Both of my references have already sent back the forms. When I dropped off my application forms I had already been fingerprinted at the place that charged about $60. Anyone here from Glen Ridge that can give me an idea of a possible time frame? I'll update this thread when it comes in.
  20. It's a shame but there will be no dry firing or shooting for me until my FID comes in unless make a trip down to the Lakewood shops. Too bad I can't rent at Bullet Hole. I want to try shooting a 40 and 45 caliber to see how they feel.
  21. I took the NRA First Steps Pistol Orientation along with a friend today at Gun for Hire. The course was taught by Anthony. He went over everything necessary to enable us to be safe and feel comfortable handling a handgun. He also taught us dry fire exercises, range etiquette, and the proper technique for shooting accurately. I highly recommend this course at Gun for Hire for anyone that is new to firearms and wishes to develop the necessary knowledge needed for handling and shooting a handgun. Thank you, Anthony
