  1. Yes you are correct. Should not have even mentioned Wylde. I do use Dillon and/or Wilson gauges. The RCBS mic does this- It directly gives you (reads out) the actual headspace of a cartridge. I was oversizing - making the cartridge headspace too short. But too short for my rifle chamber. That is another point - handloads need to be made for a specific chamber size in a specific rifle. I would never shoot anybody else's reloads in my rifle. I have another issue with the precision or lack thereof of my single stage press and die. I'll PM you. Thanks.
  2. Just passing this on to new reloaders. I have done maybe 4,500 cartridges in 40, 223 , 308W and 762x39. Only to find out that I still had a lot to learn. My Rock River AR has a Wylde chamber that is +0.005 and I was crunching brass to maybe -0.005. Bad news. These were floating around in the chamber punishing the brass and just waiting to separate. I had two split open and then noticed the tell tale stress ring on others. Also was taking brass to 8, 9, 10 reloads, probably too many. Moral of the story. Get yourself some case gauges and especially some RCBS headspace mics and you can figure out what you are really doing. If you are doing a bolt gun you still need to pay attention to this stuff. Merry Christmas. Luckily I still have 10 good fingers. .
  3. https://www.mm-industries.com/m10x/ Any opinions on this. So far I like it a lot. Anybody know??? -does it lock back empty with no mag (like pistols and AR) -is barrel chromed VERY expensive!! $1600.
  4. You need to do lots of research and reading. Explore High Power and F Class. Check the RRA catalog very carefully and you will see what uppers and triggers are made for match shooting which is what you are actually inquiring about. I speak here about iron sights. Scopes will only make it easier. Not sure about AR15 w/223 or 556 at 1000 yards. I think 68gr HPBT will do pretty good at 600 but not more. And that whole deal is pretty specialized. Example: you need to push the bullet out a bit, closer to the lands. These cartridges will not fit in an AR mag - single load only. Of course now I am talking hand loading. It's fun and interesting.
  5. Whether it's a waste or not depends on your needs, attitude and how bad you want to be at home with the wife and kids. I love to visit Oaks. I browse. I buy bullets and powder and more. I'll buy anything in PA just to spite the AHoles in NJ with their sign for this and sign to buy that. So stay home and feed your dog. I will feed my AR. LOL... HOHOHO. HAHAHA. Merry Christmas to all.
  6. That crossover is plenty legal and plenty dangerous.
  7. 41.5 grs. H4895 168 gr. HPBT Done. That's it. Also make sure you push them out to max length for mag feed (prone rapid and sitting rapid) and even longer for single load (off hand and prone).
  8. Hope I didn't miss a post but Cheyenne moved from Rt. 130 in Hamilton to Rt. 130 in Bordentown. Much bigger nicer store. Worth visiting now but inventory will build and be even better. Check it out.
  9. Yah I agree. We also need a gay, a trans gender, an illegal immigrant and a nun. Gotta be at least one of each that owns a gun.
  10. Anybody know? Are tipped bullets like Hornady Vmax, Amax, etc. considered to be hollow point? (Basically the nose is hollowed out and filled with plastic.) Hornady tech support said 'no' and of course I'm not sure I believe them. It's hell when you live in NJ!!
  11. This would be an illegal TRANSFER. The same problem is buried in a lot of the crap about proposed universal background checks. Nobody reads the fine print.
  12. So is it legal to bait squirrels (with a feeder) at the WMA?
  13. Colliers Mills WMA if any??? Any WMA in NJ??? Does the time matter, dusk, dawn, ??? I've seen more squirrels in my back yard than at CM WMA. Can't shoot them (dispatch/euthanize) unless I declare them pests like skunks, etc. Thank you.
  14. Some pretty humorous posts. I am converting all my car's lamps to LED. Turn signals, parking, headlamps, brakes, dome, sunvisor, etc. They last longer than the car. Never burn out. Never getting pulled over. Then I can drive around with drugs on the dashboard, eh? LOL
  15. 'yes' on the fbi and a 'big drop' should mean higher prices.
  16. Yes do it. You'll find out if you can shoot or not. Make sure your rifle likes your ammo. To qualify you have to be running smooth. I did two of these and based on that you get a little tired of the history lessons. But you'll get over it. LOL.
  17. Thanks Gents. Good feedback. Yes , I am trying to avoid loading single shells. The 'spray' effect is of interest given a dark place, crappy eyes, etc. Somebody also makes a laser that prints a pattern to match your ammo/distance. I do have a Saiga AK in 762.
  18. I would rather not load single rounds or pump to run or any of that. The only thing that makes sense to me is mag fed shotguns. I read a 2011 review of the Saiga 12 and they crucfied it. Is it improved now? Have not seen any great reviews for anything else. So can anybody clue me on any mag feds equal to the 870 or Mossberg 500? This is for basic home defense. No hunting or trap shooting. Needs to be NJ legal. Thanks.
  19. 1. Get Loaded, Bristol, PA 2. Oaks Gun Show, Oaks, PA
  20. Hey, don't worry. NJ will change the law. From 30 days to 90. There you go.
  21. Cabelas, DE has upped their game a lot recently. Much more reloading inventory. I think they noticed the Bass Pro Shop in AC where I wouldn't go anyway.
  22. nj -- Thanks. Good info. Could you 'splain a little more about swage vs. ream?? I also go maybe 6x - 8x and then figure that I am pressing my luck.
  23. njJoniGuy Just a curious question - you reload one time and then throw out the brass. Never go to 3x, 4x, etc.?
  24. My 308WIN oal are just dandy. Same for 762x39. Generally consistent to a few/several thousandths. But the 223 will run 2245 to 2260 (or more). Kind of all over the map. Crappy bullets (55 FMJ BT)? Defective die? Anybody??
