  1. no and most don't have a bayonet lug either. the only evil feature is a detachable magazine on the normal versions. The bayonet lug is removeable on the later versions or on ones that have it fitted. the paratrooper version HAS to be the one they were looking at when the named it. it has a pistol grip, folding stock and detachable magazine.
  2. this is just stupid...why is an m1 carbine considered an assault weapon? I "could" see the folding stock version...but the normal one only has 2 "evil" features. just shows how stupid the nj government really is
  3. I am looking into buying an m1 ( i really want one  of each) but I was concerned that most of the carbines I see on various places (gunbroker or CMP) have bayonet lugs and some have folding stocks. Are these ok on this gun? I know that due to the detachable mag, the folder is not really gonna work...but what about the bayonet lug? The none folders do not have a pistol grip. Any thoughts? what should a nice rifle of either style (garand or carbine) cost? There is a beautiful garand in the marketplace now...I wish that they'd hurry on my FID
  4. see that raises another question. I answered No on question 26, I went and saw a dr for some advice and stress for marital issues. I did not feel that it was a "condition". I have no idea where to gert the records the state is looking to pull with the mental health records release. I had to mail a request to my insurer and otherwise have no idea where else to look. There is no way to access your health records like say a credit report or a Personal recoprd request from the NJSP I think that I answewred it right, but only time will tell as I have been told by more than a few Psychology teachers that alot of insurers push for a diagnisis of condition in order to pay. So who knows what a dr would diagnose and if they would willingly share it with me.(I was never told I had a condition)
  5. i was checking out a bushmaster ar he has on gunbroker. I just hope he has it when i get my papers
  6. my forms are in and while i am waiting on the FID and PP, I wanted to check out a few pistols. Where can i go to a range and rent a pistol? I was looking at a 1911 or a Glock 17 to possibly buy
  7. I called this morning and talked to the lady I gave the original forms to, she got the ones i dropped off later last night and said no problem. i spoke to someone there and explained what i did and I did the right thing by re submitting the forms. "hopefully" I will be ok. time will tell. I feel like so I am gonna cross my fingers and let it ride. I should be fine, I can't see where going to a psych to get help with minor marital and stress reduction constitutes a condition. it is what it is, I will prepare for disappointment, but hope for a good outcome. (it should be ok, that is my gut feeling) :|
  8. I know that, hence my concern that i andwered wrong. should i be worried? i did drop off new forms and will call tomorrow to make sure. The person was too busy tring to leave for a 3 day weekend to listen to me apparently OR must have mis understood the question and gave me bad info ..I would like to think the latter was the case, but now i have a forms that were done wrong there and replacements dropped off.
  9. in question 26 it asks "Have you ever been attended, treated or observed by any doctor or psychiatrist or at any hospital or mental institution on an inpatient or outpatient basis for any mental or psychiatric condition" I have seen a psychologist for some marital and stress related advice. I do not have any "condition" (i was also a psych major in college at the time) so I was unsure how to answer. I asked the woman at the PD about it and told her that I had seen a psychologist a few years ago and she immediatley said that i had to say yes to the question. so i did, i provided the dr info and all. Problem I have is that I re read the question after I had handed the form in and I really do think that the question was answered incorrectly. I think I should have said NO. I re filled the paperwork out and dropped them off at the PD after hours, I asked for the old ones to be tossed out. Is this a simple mistake or did I just screw myself? I also wanted to get 2 pistol permits and was told that they issue only 1 at a time and when I questioned it, i treated in a less than agreeable way...as the whole experience went honestly. I really don't like when people make the rules as they go I am gonna call the chief and just clarify the mistake and the number of permits. I wanted to get 2 because I was gonna get a 1911 and in a month or so, maybe a 9mm (and a 22 conversion) If I see a nice one. I understand that a pistol permit is good for 90 days and it is a good ideas to get 2 when you first apply as you won't need to do all the stuff over and overall means less hassle.
  10. Reading it exactly as it says on the permit ap, I "could" say no because charge listed is L.O and was a $200 fine, not a C (criminal) statute, and since it asks ONLY for convictions that could lead to 6 months or more in jail; I am unsure. I am gonna wait till I get my background history from the NJSP (i am going to have the prints done friday). If it does not show, I will still likely declare it....I am gonna bring a certified copy of the disposition. I am not ashamed of my past; further, I have no intention of hiding it. It is what it is..
  11. I looked around and it appears that I would just use a standard akm (european ) receiver as the rest of the front end is basically the same pattern. (basically what i can see) what make the amd different is the rear realistically, I would want to have to drill the trunion patterns on any receiver i got just to make sure they were 100% true anyway
  12. yea..my brother told me thay are brakes..NOT flash supressors. He suggested I get a wood stock as the wire one is pretty crappy, so I think i have the plan down. My Buddy bought like 10 kits when they were like $80 years ago...he said i could have one for helping him fix his car. Now I just have to wait for my papers and I am set. Mean time aI am gonna see what deals are out there on 7.62
  13. i have a friend who will give me the a parts kit free in pa. My brother is in the middle east and he says they are alot of fun to shoot. I have the tools to rivet and press stuff already (i work on cars) Are the receivers cheap to buy? I read a good deal on ak files about bending, but i have no really reliable way to heat treat anything so I am thinking buying one is the way to go. I jyst like the idea of making it myself(that whole diy gratification) I had a good bit of fun with my brothers mak90 years ago and he had a ar15 (bushmaster xm15 m4 ) si I wanted to do the amd first then build up a nice a3 style bushmaster. I was reading up on what is and is not legal and it seems that the ar15 is a more easily compatible gun to Nj laws, but the amd "should" be fine too...just need to get the right magazines from kvar and make sure to get the US made stuff for 922r (?) compliance.
  14. obviously I would need to weld the stock open and put on an extended brake (if i can find one theat fits the Nj rules). but what about the front grip? I can get a parts kit cheap and kinda would enjoy building it. Can you legally buy JUST a receiver in nj? How would you build a NJ legal kit up? Is it cheaper to just but one?
  15. just a quick update. This charge I plead to was a Local municipal ordinance. I spoke to the person I needed to(the chief) and he says he doubted it would even show up. However I would not be penalized or denied because of it. (he makes the decision) So I am ok. I am pulling my state background to make sure there are no other marks and if it is as it should be, moving forward with my application. Thanks guys!
  16. i was planning on that...i may just wait and get an expungment next year.
  17. first off, Hello. I am a new member and I was thinking for a good long time about getting an FID. I have a few dumb questions as to wheather I should bother to try or not as I really don't want a declined application. I have a municipal disorderly charge (it is L.O 4-9.1 breach of peace) I plead guilty to. This stemmed from a traffic accident where I was hit by a guy who happend to be a "good friend" of the Rockaway township police captain (he had just had breakfast with the guy when he hit me)long story shory, I get charged with 2c:17-3a Criminal mischeif (he claims that i broke his windsheild after the guy hit me going 50mph broadside) and 2c:33-4b harrassment.. These charges were amended to the breach of peace charge which was a $200 fine. Date was 1/27/07 Next, I was arrested in the mid 90's when my father had to prove that he was a bigger man than me and made a line of crap up. I spent 2 weeks in county and was eventually let out and the charges were alledgely dropped. (I don't really know) Now I know I cannot get an expungement for 5 years due to the charges being amended according to what I have read on the subject. I am going to fill the forms to pull my history PRIOR to filling out the FID application. My question is : Am I wasting my time? Sorry for the first post being a question like this, I just wanted to get back to enjoying target shooting like I did when I was younger and hopefully be able to inherit a 1911 that was promised to me.
