  1. It won't vanish, and it's not rare. You have hundreds of thousands of 7.62x39 chambered firearms in the US. The only reason you don't see PMC/etc. making cheapo x39 is because the Russians already have the market. If they stopped importing for whatever reason, someone would pick up the market. I think it's highly unlikely any company would be stupid enough to pass up such a huge market if the chance arose. IMO 7.62x39 being "rare" is just a bad internet rumor perpetuated by paranoid SKS-wielding Bubbas and AR fanboys.
  2. It says AK-47 bolt but what do they really mean? AKM bolt, AK-100 bolt, or what? Seems like a cool rifle. I guess with all the drooling over 6.x Norse Mythological Characters people are finally coming around realizing "why not just get a 7.62x39?"
  3. K-Var sells them Avoid purchasing anything TAPCO, pretty much everything they make, from grip nuts to stocks, is completely out of spec.
  4. You're right, they're quitters. My point was to demonstrate that people like this are not uncommon. I'd estimate for every gun owner in NJ are another 2-3 or three that wanted to, thought about it, and backed out. Plenty of people out there may want a gun but really don't want to risk intimidation from their boss at their work, or have the time to take off from work for fingerprints, etc. especially in lower income circles. And that's not to mention all the people who are discouraged/denied because they have some crappy little misdemeanor that wouldn't mean anything 50 miles from here cause them to be denied/delayed for a year. Or people who want to own a gun lawfully but really don't care enough to go through all the trouble NJ puts you through. And then we get to all the various bs local PDs pull on applicants. This works against the rest of us, and unfortunately is working as intended. These letters and processes have been obsolete for ~20 years now with the advent of NICS and computers but are kept around to systematically intimidate people and discourage gun ownership. And this works against us all at the polls as now you have 1/3 or 1/4 the amount of people who would otherwise care. Even on juries, look at Brian Aitken's case. I'm sure you know the story so I'll skip the details but look at it like this: out of a sampling of twelve jurors no one knew about FOPA or NJ's transport laws and the judge was able to keep them in the dark. If we had more knowledge of guns and gun rights and ownership among the population, all it would have taken was for one juror to be a hunter or something and tell the other jurors "well there's this law that you can lock your gun in the trunk....." and who knows, maybe the guy would be walking free.
  5. I should also add that while CA has a more restrictive list of firearms you can own, they: - allow pre-ban weapons and magazines - have concise definitions, in writing, from the authorities, on what things like "pistol grip" "thumbhole" "permanent" etc. mean - have enough open land that plenty of people just go out in the desert on BLM land and shoot - once again, gun purchases in California begin at a gun shop, not a police station CA is indeed better than NJ.
  6. Asking a state police officer through opaque ballistic glass and being told you have to wait 4x longer than state statue says you have to for permission to own a gun that must remain in your home and can only be transported directly to or from a gun range in a specifically locked manner is not exercising your 2A rights.
  7. Meh, I'd rather have a rifle like that in 7.62x39 any day. Fun though, but not very practical.
  8. In California a Regular Joe who never owned a gun before can decide today he wants to buy a gun, walk into a gun shop, pick out a handgun or rifle, and come back after the waiting period and pick it up. NJ is the only state in the USA where local officials hold complete power over the exercise of your 2A rights and can deny/delay its exercise for as long as a year. I personally know three people who very very interested in becoming gun owners and when they saw the process, decided to back out. The only other state even close to as bad as NJ is IL, where one must also have a permit to own ANY kind of firearm. However, it costs only $10 and is done via mail at the state level and shall be issued in 30 days. IL also has no restrictions on firearms in common use or standard capacity magazines. Some states also have pistol permits in order to purchase a handgun, but these states do not prohibit the ownership of long guns with a ridiculous permit systems, nor are the requirements for said pistol permit anywhere close to as restrictive as NJ's. Yes, NJ has the worst gun laws of any state.
  9. Yes, you can in fact piss down the bore and gas tube to clean salts. I know someone who actually did this once, just to confirm. I'm sorry but there's really no need to name all these fancy tools, processes and special cleaners. Water WD40 Oil/Grease WD40 stands for Water Displacer - if there's any firearms related application WD40 would be good for, this is it. WD40 displaces water and prevents rust like nothing else. It's really that simple. Only in America do we spend $$$$ cleaning a rifle made for communist peasants. Mikhail is facepalming right now
  10. Well, anything is better than the stock Saiga trigger The G2 is good though, definitely the most popular trigger for AKs. I like the Arsenal and Texas AK triggers better though. The G2 is too crisp for me personally, and is too easy to bump fire. I use Arsenal now which has a longer, 2-stage pull to eliminate that.
  11. I regularly shoot corrosive 5.45 and 7.62x39 and it's the only ammo the gun runs on. Field strip the rifle. Remove the gas tube. Pour water down barrel, gas tube, and wipe gas piston with wet rag. Drip dry, douche barrel, gas tube, and gas block with WD40 Re-assemble rifle. I rarely spend more than 5 minutes cleaning it. I do not even clean the bolt face or anything rear of the breech. In fact I have owned the rifle 11 months and have not cleaned any part of the receiver, bolt or bolt carrier yet. Once every couple range trips I slog a little more grease on. Don't think I'll clean the receiver anytime soon either. I currently do not even own or use any gun-specific cleaning/lubricant products for any of my guns. For oil I mix transmission fluid and oil treatment. For solvent I use WD40. For grease I use LucasOil Red N' Tacky. Rifle runs just fine, no rust. If you want to sell your corrosive ammo, I know a good home for it.
  12. Aren't radar detectors illegal in NJ?
  13. +1 TAPCO and ProMag are as shitty as it gets for just about anything.
  14. Look into finding Saiga 7.62x39 10-round factory magazines. They have steel rear lug and are the closest thing to the modern designs. I've drop tested mine loaded onto concrete from 6ft as well as a 40foot throw while loaded. I have not done the "k-var test" yet however seeing as the magazine is short dimensionally I can't see it failing it. Speaking of K-Var they also make 10-round x39 magazines to the same dimensions as the current Bulgarian Circle 10 magazines.
  15. Do you have any info on what constitutes "permanent" for plastic magazines as per NJSP?
  16. The congressman and sheriff I voted for were non-incumbent Democrats. County Freeholders I have no idea, in fact I don't even know what that position is. I voted Democrat to them also. Town Councilman were incumbents but my town is small, and I know the guy, so it's not a big deal. He's a Republican and the only one I voted for.
  17. I noticed the same thing too, somewhat recently actually. I tend to read various states' gun laws when I'm really, really bored. Maybe 6 months ago, I was amazed to find out that in most states, things like carrying a gun without a permit, or improper transportation of one, are usually misdemeanors or even just fines the first offense or two. NJ is one of only a ridiculous handful where the mere non-violent act of having a gun on you, or not locked the right way, is a straight up felony with huge jail sentences.
  18. I voted for several Democrats today.
  19. My ballot looked like my old report cards - straight D's baby!
  20. Well, it is 4-ply, it could serves as toilet paper in a pinch!
  21. Yes, if the gun was designed for 17 rounds, then a 33 round magazine for that gun would be a high capacity magazine. The standard would be the 17 and the 15's you're stuck with here in NJ (or whatever size they are here) are the low capacity magazines. Some guns are intended to use even larger drums/belts. For example, a 75 round drum in an RPK would be a standard capacity magazine, as that is the device the gun was designed to feed from. Putting a 30 round magazine in an RPK would be using a low capacity magazine.
