    Century Arms

Century has a bad reputation and most of it is unwarranted, internet hearsay bs. First off, they do many things with guns so just because something is "Century" does not really mean anything. Some guns like the PSLs and Makarovs and surplus rifles, they simply import, neuter if needed and re-sell. Some rifles like the WASR are imported, they open the mag well and throw some US parts in, and re-sell. Other things like the Golani they built from parts kits with their own receivers and compliance parts and some of these are where the "shitty" rep comes from. Second of all, they move a LOT of guns. A LOT. It's simple math, if you have a problem with 1 in 500 guns and you move 500 a day, versus a company like K-Var who may also have a 1 in 500 problem but only moves 50 a day, if that, then of course it looks like there is a quality problem to the untrained eye. There are far more Century guns out there, so of course there is the appearance of having more problems. Just like Toyota Camry is the most stolen car. There's just more of them than anything else, and statistics can be a pain. Third, For all the talk of WASRS being garbage (which is where a lot of the anti-Century sentiment comes from) I am yet to see any fail. For all the talk of canted sights, and roughshod finish, I'm yet to see one rusted out or fail to fire. And not to be mean but all it takes to fix canted sights, at worst is a sledge hammer and a pin punch. Sometimes it is as simple as just using the sight tool to drift the post a few mm. The same people who call Century monkeys are often the same clowns who can't even swing a hammer themselves. I'm yet to see a civillian target shooter kill the WASR they love to talk so much **** about. Another big source of Century hate is their .223 AKs a while back, which they shipped with 5.45 magazines re-labeled as .223. Geometry is a **** and of course they jammed constantly due to the magazine. Also their Tantals were 5.45 shipped with .223 barrels. Inexcusable. Century is far from perfect, but there's really nothing wrong with almost anything they put out. Some complaints are valid but most of the hate is unwarranted. Sorry for writing you a novel but I hope the info is worthwhile.
  3. They are not Romaks, they are made on US receivers. Romaks are made by Cugir in Romania and then imported by Century.
  4. You'll find his words have been twisted quite a bit over the ages. I guess the better question is, which Thomas Jefferson do you want to read about? Would you like to read about Deist / Enlightenment / "tree of liberty" era author Thomas Jefferson? Or the more watered-down version of him?
  5. Meh, maybe forty. I tossed in the number "100" because I assume NJ followed NY's lead right around the time of the Sullivan Act. But who knows? Maybe it didn't start being "like this" here until later.
  6. If they passed and no one bought one, why would they lower the price? You make it like NJ legislators want you to be able to defend yourself? The NJ legislature's goal for the last 100 years has been to make sure no one can carry unless they're "connected" If they passed the bill, and no on got a permit, they'd throw a big party and celebrate "Mission Accomplished"
  7. If the weather is nice I may be there.
  8. Have a couple of those at my club. It's hilariously sad to think that without a chair, table, special vise, and $2000 rifle they probably couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. How they consider what they do "shooting a gun" is beyond me. But you know what, I wouldn't care one bit, if they weren't such absolutely miserable old shitheads who look upon those with a milsurp or, gasp, a semi auto, with total disgust.
  9. Why would someone be in awe over the legality of an SKS? Also, do they allow you to shoot at cinder blocks/bricks?
  10. A good thread going so far with lots of info/pics.
  11. It all depends on body shape and personal preference really. That's the beauty of MOLLE and all the different platforms is that you can pretty put whatever you want wherever you want it. What works for one may not work for someone else.
  12. Exactly, securing the load and remaining able to freely move and bend is far more preferable than an extra half second to reload. Not to mention, if you're crouched/laying/bent behind something your body is squinched together anyway which makes placement a bit irrelevant. My only perceived downside to your setup would be color, I prefer OD, multicam or even black for use around here, however I have no idea where the intended location you use your rig is so I cannot use the color as a critique.
  13. Looks good, I prefer non-standard furniture on AKs anyway. I own both rifles with Saiga handguard and AK handguards. The AK handguards I consider a drawback and prefer full length ones as I like to hold the rifle all the way out by the gas block with them for much better stability. My only complaint with that STG rifle would be the decreased sigh radius, but other than that it looks fine and it's really not much of a reduction anyway. It's an AK and won't fail you, so for $400 you really can't go wrong.
  14. It is a bit high, but for someone with short arms and a smaller/stocky build it is not an issue at all. Might be an issue for taller people though. It's mounted at that height to remain out of the way for squatting, kneeling, and sitting position shooting with a rifle.
  15. "I liked the atmosphere" "These guys are money hungry scumbags" "This is a great place for all your outdoor needs" "I hope they go out of business" Hmm, it appears as if this sestablishment has mixed reviews

  18. Just to throw a wrench in your gears....I went looking for ATF letters regarding thumbhole stocks and found this: The letter is regarding the 1994 Federal AWB http://www.ttb.gov/rrd/tdatf396.htm For those unaware of how ATF letters work, they are an opinion and not a codified fact. You can get an answer to a question, and meanwhile another person could ask the same question to a different agent the same day and get a different answer and your letter is now toilet paper. ATF can change their minds anytime. After all, opinions change. I would strongly recommend not playing with that stock in NJ. But that is up to you.
  19. If you ship the gun to the company yourself, they can send it back to you directly. If you have a local FFL send it to the company, the company cannot send it back to you, they must send it to an FFL.
  20. Ideally, if you are not concerned with pistol magazines, or have extras, something like this is truly "perfect" for stubby fat 15 rounders like the Surefires: http://www.tacticaltailor.com/762308singlemagpouch.aspx
