  1. I think the club just doesnt want to bother with letting out of state pistol shooters participate. If you have a 22LR rifle/carbine or Pistol Caliber carbine then you an play.
  2. Next Month's match is Sunday Jan 8 at Coyne Park Range in Yonkers. http://nwra-ny.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=319 We start at 8am. A bit early but it is due to the fact that we are renting the space before they open to the public. I have gotten word that we will be doing some low-light stages so bring flashlights. I will bring a few so if people want to try shooting in the dark but dont have a tactical light, I have some that I can share. Take a look at the link and see the details. Pretty straight forward. No steel targets for safety concerns but we will be shooting IDPA style cardboard targets. Im hoping they bring moving targets. Pistol License required and preferably experienced shooters, so we can effecienty make use of our time there. Pistol caliber carbines are welcome.Unfortunately pistol licenses are required for pistol shooters. So bring out your pistol caliber carbines!!!
  3. Very true about using the gun defensively. Im pushing for dark shooting. Even with just flashlights. IR and NVGs are a bit outside of people's range but they should at least get some range time and experience working with a light and gun. Coyne Park Range is in Yonkers. http://www.coyneparkrange.net/index2.php According to their website, they do rent out the range. $400 for 4 hours. Not terrible. Especially if you have a medium group of people. say 8 people split it, that is only $50 a person. I will definitely keep you posted. I recently picked up a cheap DBAL clone from china for $132 shipped. It is green laser and IR laser.
  4. This is interesting. He has a wrist bandoleer. Watch his shotgun reloads. They are not speedtubes.
  5. This guy is pretty good. Jerry Miculek. that shotgun is amazing.
  6. Krdshrk, Im with you. To me, these skills should be used anywhere and everywhere. Not just purpose driven to one style of shooting. Im a firm believer that strong hand stays on fire control as much as possible. So I can shoot even if my support hand is busy doing something else. does that make me slower? Dunno. It just comes down to practice. As my carbine instructor said, you will always resort to your training and practice. You will never rise to the occasion and do something different.
  7. The guy with the Benelli I just blame operator error and lack of practice. But he should have known to drop a shell for each of those last two targets standing. He commented on my reload and wondered if I was left handed. I said no. I prefer to reload weak side. He said right hand reloads are faster. However my weakhand reload is consistent with my carbine and hand gun reloads. Gotta train that left hand to do something other than hold up the front of my Kriss haha.
  8. Here is a video of some of the other members shooting the shotgun stage. Watch the second stage (I called it stage 1 earlier, I forgot about the clays) Watch the guy with the benelli. Speedloaders are fast with lots of practice. But in the last two targets he wasted so much time fiddling with his speedloader when he could have just dropped a shell in the chamber and shot the target.
  9. Well the first stage was my second stage that I shot. I shot the last stage first. Since it was only 3 steel and 6 slugs for 3 paper targets, I could load the 1187 to 9 rounds and not worry about reloads. I rotated to Stage one and wanted to see how the combat reload would work in that situation. It has its time and place. I should have reloaded as you said. But oh well. I will try it next match.
  10. As I said, I havent shot a shotgun in a long time. I had just recently watched Magpul Dynamics Art of the Tactical Shotgun and I was playing around with some of their concepts. Such as their Combat reload. The biggest problems are my right arm is weak and holding up a long gun like that gets tiring haha. Secondly my dump pouch has shells oriented in all sorts of positions. If I was reloading off a side saddle or shell caddy I think my times would be slightly lower. I was more interested in testing out different methods of shooting. I dont have a shotgun yet so i cant practice on my own. So i wasnt too concerned about my time. My priority was to have fun shooting and re-familiarize myself with shooting a shotgun in a more tactical event. Last time I shot a shotgun was with my dad hunting small gameland dove in Yuma, AZ over 10 years ago. Hunting birds with a 3 rd limit is not the same as this type of shooting haha. Even trap and skeet are not quite the same. I sold my Hipoint carbine and plan to buy my friend's railed and M4 stocked Mossberg 500 in January when i see him. I plan to play some 3 gun competitions and am building an AR. I cant do anything about the pistol issue now. So either I find matches that will turn a blind eye to the Kriss or we go out of state and I borrow someone's pistol. Im just getting into firearm shooting and having a blast.
  11. This type of match is only pistol and pistol caliber rifles. We have a high power match coming up but that is 200 yd engagements. Last month they had a Shotgun Action shoot similar to the Pistol Action shoots. Here is my video of the Shotgun stages. I havent shot a shotgun in over 10 years. I think i did pretty well.
  12. Hey Ronky, sorry man i dont frequent this forum often. I recently had my first taste of NV/IR shooting. It was end of last october but it was in Pittsburgh, PA. My friend in PGH is a member of the Pitcairn-Monroeville Shooting Club. They allow members to bring guests. However the only do night shooting once a year. For all of them they run guns with lights. I have done that to death with my 10 years of airsoft. However I wanted to test a new poorman's NV setup. I sent in my results to The Firearmblog. http://www.thefirear...n-on-the-cheap/ Anyway in terms of finding like minded people and getting range time in the dark is difficult. I recently joined the NWRA (Northern Westchester Rifle Association) cause I live across the North NJ border in NY. In the coming winter months we switch from the outdoor Blue Mountain Shooting Center to the indoor range at Coyne Park. I have expressed my desire to shoot in the dark. I ask them how many of them have shot in the dark and know how to utilize a light with a gun. Most of them do not or have only a couple of times. They are looking into getting range time with Coyne Park to shoot in the dark. I have plenty of lights +40 SureFires to lend if they want to try tactical lights haha. We shall see if it happens. We will definitely be shooting at Coyne Park but whether or not we can rent the range out to shoot in the dark is a different story.
  13. I honestly dont know. I could find out. Or you can ask on their forum. I just joined and since I dont have a pistol or license, I havent looked into it.
