  1. Currently having a battle royal with the bolt hold open spring. any tips. Good thing im wearing glasses
  2. Primers failed to ignite in the 1911 - These were reloads with cheap Wolf primers. Full lockups in the glock 34(had to pry open were the action and barrel meet with a knife - OAL to long ? Empty shells getting jammed in the action of the GSG. - Strange grooves on the lead bullets causing the shells to actually get stuck in the chamber. So the good news is i got rid of all the bad reloads. I gotta pick up some WWB for USPSA sunday. then ill make an order from Powder valley for some Federal Primers, And Precision delta bullets
  3. A little product testing http://youtu.be/LWR3ipP0C3M
  4. Bought 2 of the Folding metal sawhorses today, while im still waiting for my sawhorse legs to get here. (not until next week now) For $30 at home dept they are very nice and compact yet tall and durable when unfolded. Then using a i bolt and washers and nuts i secured the chain into the upper portion of the sawhorse.(I had to widen the hole just a little bit to make it fit. Then another bolt with 2 nuts and washers to secure the steel plate, while still maintaining a downward plate angle. Then the first stage of painting
  5. Now if i really wanted to do something for cheap, during the summer when the ground is soft. This guy used 3 pieces of 5' rebar. and held them at the top with what looks like a 3 or 4 in. i-bolt(I think its called). Its like those rifle tripod made of sticks and string the guy on the outdoor channel uses on his african hunts lol I thought this was a great example of thinking outside the box
  6. Hey guys and gals! Just wanted to show everyone my project in progress for making steel target holders for practice shooting. Also i will show you other great ideas i found during the research. First i started by ordering 3 sets of sawhorse legs (30'' high) from amazon for $15 a piece.(Still in the mail.Expected wednesday) Then using an 8ft. 2x4 , i cut 2 lengths of 2.5 ft and one length of 3 ft. Starting off with the 3 ft section, i was able to fit 3 Swingers (I have 2 so far, 3rd on the way) (Which are on sale at midway right now for $23) onto the 2x4 http://www.midwayusa...=ProductDescrip . To fit these, i measured the base rods, which are 1/2 '' round stock. So i used a 1/2'' wood bit and drilled 6 holes. angling the holes so that the shots would be deflected down and out to the side, after impact. .............. Part 2 (mounting #2 - 8'' gongs) coming monday night. Part 3 (The full set-up) Wednesday night
  7. I called STI just now. The poor girl was so confused lol i felt bad. i talked to a gentleman who said for the LSWC the Trojan would be a more reliable platform in both 9mm and 45acp. Maybe because theyre trying to put out a more expensive product, but either way by the sound of his voice he was more confident in the Trojans ability over the spartan for what i am looking to do with it. SWC or not. So Maybe i need to go back to the drawing board on this.
  8. Well for me, i am going to be shooting 200 gr LSWC. So i want all the help i can get when it come to feeding. For half the price of FMJ i tend to stick with this load. (For the most part they feed so-so out of my SA Loaded. i just need to bring own my OAL a little more.) But the Dawson STI (Spartan or Trojan) is going to be my Sunday Steel & USPSA Single Stack gun. -I also just called Dawson Precision and they told me they NO LONGER do "Action Jobs".
  9. I would love to get it in 9mm, but i have heard enough stories about the 1911 chambered in 9mm. So i feel i am forced to go with the 45 acp. Which is fine seeing how i have $250 worth of Wilson mags for it anyway. ----------------------- This same topic was brought up on THR and the consensous was > -The Trojan also has a ramped barrel while the Spartan has the ramped frame... - after 60k rounds you can have a gunsmith custom ramp a barrel and bushing for your replacement - The trigger guard can be undercut by a smith as well. ------------------------------- So it looks like i am going with the spartan, blued, Dawson CRP, with dawson action job, With great hopes that it outshoots my Springfield Loaded
  10. My only other question is about the trojan being ramped and the spartan not. How big of a difference does that make in the pistol? Im going to call dawson later today and see how much their action job's are as well.
  11. Thats where im stuck at now. I have $850 and could by the Dawson CRP Spartan Blued, or wait a few weeks and spring for the Dawson CRP Trojan. If its a more accurate & reliable pistol than the Spartan, Then i am all in for saving and waiting the extra couple weeks. If not...Then i have no problem not having checkering and i dont even know what an undercut trigger guard is so it probally doesnt even matter to me.
  12. I read somewhere that the trojan has a ramped barrel while the spartan does not. making the trojan have a more reliable feeding system. Though for 100 years the 1911 was never ramped, and had no issues. Again, this is what i read. Not my personal belief Its funny this popped up. i am in the same debate, choosing between the 2 from the dawson precision comp ready line
  13. Im in for 1 (if i can afford 2 even better) Just joined USPSA today, so ill have my number within the week to put on the shirt/s I like Black & Red -------- TechWearUSA has some idea's. Idk who is artistic here, but here is their template to draw something up if it hasn't been done already. http://www.techwearusa.com/downloads.asp This is a cool color scheme And this is a nice red & Black minus the Flames Just some ideas
  14. Did you have any work done yet on the 1911 Topher?
  15. Last question, Can i shoot after initiation or do i have to wait a week until i get my key fab
  16. Who's doing the work for you glen? I gotta find someOne tO ship it to like that
  17. I should know better by now lol only thing i notice is the slant brake. Maybe it is welded already
  18. What do i have to do to make this NJ Legal? Romanian RPK Heavy Barrel AES-B rifle http://www.jgsales.c...ck.-p-1584.html Obviously it would have to ship with no mags
  19. Youre right its 15 yards, with pistol http://www.gongshot....el-targets.html But these guys say 150 with rifle. Others say 100 is fine -------------------- Edit: While national police supply state's > Minimum recommended distance with a handgun and standard lead ammunition is 7 yards * Minimum recommended distance with a rifle is 100 yards unless using our specific rifle targets http://www.nationalp...ety_and_Use.pdf
  20. I think they just say that to cover themselves legally. But say it was true... Cast/lead bullets They are also much cheaper. ( as of now thats all i shoot due to cost) As a reloader i can buy 500 lead semi wadcutter heads for $32 as opposed to 500 fmj heads for $115/500 (45ACP) Edit: In my research of this same thing this week, everyone says keep at least 25 yards back with pistol and 100 yards back with rifle and you will have no worries
  21. This setup from Big Dog steel is pretty cool. Im going to swipe this for Rifle. Then for pistol in the pits ill get 3 of these for $34 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PW8ZVO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A364EMG98WC7R6 Then mix in a couple cardboard targets and have a pretend stage for practice.
  22. im just putting in on netflix now as well My man's one hell of a shot !
