Wondered how long that would take. That means a lot coming from the 31st loser. -
What gun for steel matches ???
Steve_G replied to FishNHard's topic in Competitive & Fun Shoot Discussion
Of those two, definitely the Springer. I shot my first couple matches with a TRP with factory ammo and had a blast. I'd suggest using what you got for a few matches and see if it's something you really enjoy. If so, look into reloading and maybe even a 9mm 1911. I use a S&W 1911 Pro Series in 9mm now with my own loads and there really is a huge difference. -
Kimber has had problems with external extractors. Mostly extraction issues, not any safety problems. S&W went with an oversized external extractor and they seem to work quite well. I have not had any issues with my 9mm 1911 with well over 5k through the gun. Glad you're ok Howard.

SAF v NJ (MULLER et al v. MAENZA et al)
Steve_G replied to joejaxx's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
That's a big if on the 9th circuit case. Unfortunately, I think they were more worried about how they are perceived than about constitutional rights. The entire system is screwed up. This is not the country our forefathers founded. -

After 4 years, it appears we can send this thread off to the archives. This state is beyond hope, and the rest of the country probably isn't far behind. -

Glass shopping is always the tough part. Too many choices. I saw swfa has the vortex viper 6 - 24x50 on closeout for $399. -
New to IDPA. Need some help.
Steve_G replied to Blackjack988's topic in Competitive & Fun Shoot Discussion
All matches at Old Bridge, USPSA, IDPA, Steel, etc. are open to the public. Let the match director know you are new, you will get a safety briefing and be squaded with experienced shooters. I'm sure someone will chime in that will be willing to meet up with you. IDPA, is the one match I don't attend. Have fun. edit to add: There is a Steel match this Sunday at OB if you're interested. A nice way to get used to drawing from a holster and being on the clock. -

Everyone has to start somewhere. Not everyone grew up around guns and they really don't know much about them. I suggest you take a course to get the basics down. NRA first steps pistol or NRA basic pistol would be a good place to start.

What do I need to bring to Range 14 to set up targets?
Steve_G replied to John3754's topic in Ranges & Gun Shops
I haven't been to range 14 in about 5 years but, I believe it was about $60 to join plus the hourly fees. They have paper targets mounted to 2x3's for sale and they loan you a post hole digger to put them in the sand.
