  1. not sure on the second one but the first one looks like a go besides the magazines. they are selling it as NY compliant so the only issue on the first is the 30 round magazine (as far as I can tell at least).
  2. could not agree more! I treat guns just like the normal every day items they are. I work in retail and I actually leave gun stuff on my desk (midway catalouge, magazines (the periodicals not the gun part), and so on. In most cases I am with a client for up to a half an hour so there is a lot of time to chit chat. Sometimes peoples reactions to my hobby are so insanely ridiculous that it is comical, and I use that conversation to explain how normal responsible gun ownership is. The best is when they express a lot of interest and I show them videos of my girlfriend shooting (she is a little under 5ft, and is shooting "scary evil black guns") lol. The point of all this is simple, and that is to take something that may make some people nervous and show them that "normal every day people" enjoy the sport and there is nothing wrong with it. I have even taken several friends that do not own guns out to the range through safety classes to get them exposed to gun safety. Along those lines maybe we should try to get more ranges to offer "bring a friend" type days. Getting others exposed to the sport is paramount if we ever hope to remove the hugely negative vibe that some non shooters have and maybe even restore some reasonable gun rights in this state.
  3. isnt the top of the gun where the muzzle flash comes out of? I imagine that would probably be rough on the eyes flashing right in front of you like that.
  4. It was the first rifle I ever owned. It was the first gun I ever worked on. and I did everything myself based on what I found online. I really love owning a true Russian AK. It is equipped with a red dot and I can rapidly hit man sized targets at 100 yards all day without issue. I have no regrets on that gun, maybe I'll post up some pictures of my build later. If you have any questions about the Saiga restoration I would have no problems answering any questions I can for you.
  5. by just skimming the link it looks like they come with 30 round magazines which would be an instant deal breaker. I shoot a Saiga and have been happy with it, but if you buy one of them you would have to "restore" it the original AK configuration, because the guns are assembled in Russia with a "sporting configuration" (likely to make importation easier?). Restoring them is fun and not very hard, you can get them on gun broker all day. they come like this. but can easily converted to a more standard AK type rifle. the one other upside is you get to pick everything, and when you are done you will know the gun inside and out. if you feel that is too much work for you there are plenty of NJ legal AK variants out there. kind of like what you pictured but you have to watch the magazine capacity as we are limited to 15 rounds. good luck
  6. Don't quote me on this but I was out shopping with the girlfriend this weekend and walked by (sports authority (I think)) and noticed they had several safes pushed right up into the entrance area and they were all on some sale to some degree or another. So if you have a sports authority in your area might want to check them out as well! Its funny when I bought my safe I thought "this will hold all of my guns" and it does, but it is getting crowded because I didnt think of all the other stuff that would end up in there. So once I get out of my apartment and into a house I will likely pick up another safe just for paperwork and ammo.
  7. walmart appears to have something right under $100.. not sure of quality.. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Stack-On-10-Gun-Security-Cabinet/14710764?sourceid=1500000000000003260410&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=14710764
  8. probably better off, I am considering the expensive surefire rig for my mossberg, but that will have to wait till I get some extra cash as it is pretty costly. cheap stuff is fine there is nothing wrong with it, but if you own one gun that you plan to use as a home defense gun as opposed to a range toy, I would go all out on that one gun. I would only buy the most quality items I could afford because the difference between a $100 light and a $350 light system might be the difference between it working or not working, and not working when in the context of self defense could be the difference between life and death.
  9. thanks good points another thing I didnt think about is that with a red light I bet optics that are "red dot" would be difficult to see, ha
  10. would using a red filter make it less harsh on your eyes in reference to acquiring the target? isnt red supposed to be easy on the eyes in darkness?
  11. not sure if this is good or bad, but just called Bushnell and they said that the little red dot is made in Mexico. So not made in the same place as the Chinese ones.
  12. certainly possible, the only reason I considered it is because it looks so much like my aimpoint at a fraction of the price while still getting decent reviews.
  13. dont know where it is made but this Bushnell seems to get good reviews and was actually considering it for my cx4. http://www.cabelas.com/link-12/product/0065994713198a.shtml?cmCat=perf&rid=0987654321&cm_mmc=Performics-_-CSE-_-GoogleBaseUSA-_-0065994713198a&mr:trackingCode=F31D2FCA-958E-DF11-A0C8-002219318F67&mr:referralID=NA
