Thank you for the response, would changing muzzle devices on the Troy rifle make the SP letter no longer relevant or would it still apply being its not changing any of the things that keeps it "OTHER"?

Does anyone happen to know whether you can change the muzzle device out to a different hider/comp without causing a problems for your self? What i would really like to see is just a basic 14.5 rifle AOW without having to use a brake, pinned stock and keep my bayo lug I would die happy

Looks aside, given the response from PWS that it is a designed, to be used, functions, and sold as a muzzle brake, and willing to back there claim that it is not a flash suppressing device and is still inline with there BATF letter. I am going to keep it. Worst comes to worst down the road if we find or here differently i can always remove it as long as I'm not the test subject... Its better than most companies responses who would simply tell you to follow your local laws and leave it at that like many other popular brands people run here in NJ on rifles. But as usual its up to the consumer to decide what they are willing to to do in this state. Hopefully but no promises maybe i can get a low light video of the FSC mod 2 series in use and further update info.

I ask because BCM pinned a mod 2 on an upper i ordered when i selected the FSC556 in there options menu and had wanted to know where you guys stand on the MOD 2. Hi Steven; From our perspective and based on a number of conversations with those in the greater know than myself we have determined the FSC is the same with or without the open tines in the very front. The design is an open-port compensator designed as a brake for shooting performance and muzzle control not for flash suppression. Although this muzzle device does help to redirect flash from your line of sight and may reduce the overall sight signature of the flash it is not designed to suppress flash and has a poor performance record in this regard as it still creates large and bright side blasts due to the directional braking design. I have worked with a number of customers and shops in NJ and all agree so far that the FSC still remains true to the design and verbiage addressed in the linked BATFE letter. No threading, just ridges, from what i understand its to increase surface area to help minimize flash, there are other muzzle devices out there starting to use this method as well, the Proctor Muzzle Device is one also. Its a fairly new thing I've noticed manufactures are doing lately. High Exposure is correct the original FSC556 can accept the old HALO mounts

Unfortunatley the Patent number is not in the BATF letter, I emailed PWS to see where they stand and will update when I receive a response so we can close this out and others can reference it. But yea, lol. It pretty much looks like an a2 birdcage attached to the front.

Not a dedicated flash hider, they list it as a comp, they make a flash hider and this is not it. etc then the other part says we want to cover our bases for that uniformed person who causes issues over it... this is NJ after all, we know what were dealing with as far as practical judgment goes. should be cautious, we all have LEO friends and most of us are baffled how incorrect they are 9/10 regarding gun laws and no one wants to be that guy who gets stopped and try to explain them selves. then... part of me says heck with it, doesn't matter anyway in the eyes of NJ govt, were not safe with anything on the end of the muzzle, they'll try and prosecute anything anyway and probably win so enjoy what i want. Hello everyone, recently ordered a new upper from BCM, had them Pin an FSC556 from there options tab, It arrived today and to my surprise it has the newer FSC series Mod 2 and not the original FSC556. More or less looking for opinions. What we already know, BATF letter no longer applies to this device as it specifically names the FSC556 and not the Mod 2 and the open end might give the wrong impression to the wrong person. If you were me would you send the upper back? Im finding next to no info videos or reviews on it. PWS states that non of there FSC SERIES are considered flash hiders but..... this is NJ and no one can seem to define what is and isn't. Is this device pushing it in the gray area to much? thoughts..

stopped at belleplain supply yesterday for the first time, very nice store and the staff and owner were very nice. lots of items and had a great selection, picked up some cleaning supplies and my self and the owner had started a conversation on the current legislation and current laws. we got to talking about the ammo and firearms online ban which to my surprise was he is in favor of, and continued to tell me how if i had ordered ammo online it was currently illegal and there going to crack down and arrest me by tracking the ups records.lol. i tried to explain it was legal but he was convinced it was completely illegal to purchase 9mm and 223 online with current nj law. ( not the new legislation passed by assembly) we talked about ar15's, which is my favorite rifle so a was enthused to talk about them with another gun guy. we ending up disagreeing on the legality of assembling your own nj compliant upper and lower. he continued to tell me that assembling your own upper is illegal, ordering parts of an upper is illegal, having a completed nj compliant assembled upper is illegal because its not from the manufacturer and how people come in all the time with them to sell him there personal assembled nj compliant uppers and how he has to report them. i argued the point and stated the facts of how the lower is not in the residence when they are assembled for nj compliance and how the lower is the firearm, not the upper,the upper is just parts, and what matters is whether it has the evil features or not. not whether its from a manufacturer, but he was convinced it was manufacturing and against 2c. he also told me that it must be a factory nj compliant complete rifle or it was illegal to own in nj and how there cracking down and its people like me who assemble there own uppers and lowers make it worse for everyone else. also said how you are not alowed to change anything on your nj compliant factory complete rifle or it was illegal also. his tone was frustrating,raising his voice slightly and trying to talk over me and a little bit of him sticking his chest out. lol but oh well. so needless to say he wont be getting my business again, i dont like how he is spreading misinformation around, but other than that the store was nice, has lots of items, staff was helpful but i just cant get around what we talked about and his point of view. just thought id share my experience because the thought of this guy reporting people for doing nothing wrong blew my mind.

the ammo and firearms online ban is restricting NJ citizens to only do business here in NJ more or less. this law restricts NJ residents from doing business out of state, stopping an open market, trade, and free will of its citizens imo. is it legal per our Nj constitution to do this?

i know this thread is a month old and the topic has been covered before. but after looking through wondering about completing 80% lowers, the law on what defines a "manufacturer" in section j. is all plural. almost as if they know they cant legally say raw material, instead of material's, a part instead of part's, firearm instead of firearm's. though this is how i translate it and thats half the issue with how its written, but seems as if they refer to production of firearms,parts etc not producing a firearm or part for personal use. just curious on what others take on how its translated and if im way out in left field and just perceiving it how i wish it was. New Jersey Statute 2C:39 2C:39-1. Definitions. The following definitions apply to this chapter and to chapter 58: ………………………………………………………………… j. "Manufacturer" means any person who receives or obtains raw materials or parts and processes them into firearms or finished parts of firearms, except a person who exclusively processes grips, stocks and other nonmetal parts of firearms. The term does not include a person who repairs existing firearms or receives new and used raw materials or parts solely for the repair of existing firearms. ........................................................ 2C:39-9. Manufacture, Transport, Disposition and Defacement of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments and Appliances. a. Machine guns. Any person who manufactures, causes to be manufactured, transports, ships, sells or disposes of any machine gun without being registered or licensed to do so as provided in chapter 58 is guilty of a crime of the third degree. b.Sawed-off shotguns. (1) Any person who manufactures, causes to be manufactured, transports, ships, sells, or disposes of any bullet, which is primarily designed for use in a handgun, and which is comprised of a bullet whose core or jacket, if the jacket is thicker than .025 of an inch, is made of tungsten carbide, or hard bronze, or other material which is harder than a rating of 72 or greater on the Rockwell B. Hardness Scale, and is therefore capable of breaching or penetrating body armor and which is intended to be used for any purpose other than for authorized military or law enforcement purposes by duly authorized military or law enforcement personnel, is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree. Any person who manufactures, causes to be manufactured, transports, ships, sells or disposes of an assault firearm without being registered or licensed to do so pursuant to N.J.S.2C:58-1 et seq. is guilty of a crime of the third degree. h.Large capacity ammunition magazines.
