  1. Has anyone used it to create a website? If so, what did you think? I am looking at putting together a website that is a combination blog/e-commerce. Zero website building experience. But I do want a site that looks nice and works well. If you are not a fan of Squarespace, what are you a fan of? What are the pros and cons? Thanks for the help.
  2. Go to this site. http://battery1234.com/ Lots of info. Listen to the podcasts for pretty much step by step instruction to do what you want. Also, links to all the parts and pieces he talks about. They guy can come across a little douchey but he does seem to know his stuff. Let me know what you think. (No way related to him personally or business wise)
  3. “The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation” Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler
  4. Found them here for $20 with free shipping. I have never used this site though so can not vouch for it. http://www.icemonkey.com/
  5. Also take a look at The Survival Podcast (www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/). They have a really good forum (www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/forum/index.php). Not NJ specific but a lot of good information and good people who like to help. They do have regional boards as well. Jack Spirko does a pretty good podcast as well that he puts out 5 days a week and covers a lot of information.
  6. Personally, after 13+ years in the military, I would stay away from MREs. Certain ones taste ok, certain ones are horrid. Plus, they only have a 5 year shelf life. If you are looking for long term storage, I would go with the Mountain House, Saratoga Farms route, the majority of both product lines being freeze dried, not dehydrated. These have a shelf life, unopened, of 25-30 years. Just add water and serve. They have pouch size options for most of their entrées so you can try them out before buying in bulk and most that I have tried are pretty tasty. Other bulk items you can put away, are cheap and have a long shelf life are beans, rice, pasta, and wheat berries. Meat (chicken, turkey, pork, beef, etc) can be pressure canned and kept in the pantry. Has something like a 3-5 year shelf life and doesn't need refrigeration. The best way, in my opinion, on stocking food it to buy what you eat and eat what you buy and keep things in rotation. I.E. - don't buy a ton of beans if you never eaten beans before, or don't like been, or don't know how to cook them. Copy canning in one good technique. Say you like soup and have two can at home. When you eat one can of soup, the next time you go shopping, buy two cans. Put these two can behind the one you still had. When you eat that one, buy two more and put them behind the two you bought last time. Repeat with all non-perishable goods. You will quickly build up you food supplies without shelling out a huge chunk of cash all at once. Also remember that canned goods, as long as they are not bulging, stay good indefinitely (pose no health risk). They do start to lose some of their nutritional value over time but don't spoil.
  7. "Anything that can instantly take a driver's eyes and mind off the road is a potentially lethal distraction," added Raymond Martinez, chairman of the state's Motor Vehicle Commission. So, should we ticket people looking at billboards, listening to car radios, and talking to passengers also as these things can instantly take you eyes and mind off the road.
  8. Are the ones on the magazines webpage not archieved printed experiences? That was the impression I had, but never cross referenced them so could be wrong.
  9. Thanks go out to Shane for working with a deployed guy and allowing me to take advantage of the great deal he offered. I would not hesitate to work with him again in the future.
  10. Still in stock. Just ordered a case. About $90 less expensive than the group buy. While I am all for supporting local shops, 90 bucks is 90 bucks.
  11. Nice. Out here as well. Just a little south.
  12. Jury duty always seems to come at the most inconvenient time. A couple of months ago, my wife got a notice - here was the scenario. Our twin girls had just turned 12 days old (yes...days), our two year old daughter was sick, we were living in my brother's basement (explain shortly), and I was hours away from deploying for 6 months. Luckily, my sister-in-law saw it first, showed me and said she would take care of it. I am assuming she did because my wife hasn't been arrested yet. Living in the basement at the time because within weeks of getting back from the deployment, we will be moving to another base. Shortly after I deployed, the wife and kids moved back to Ohio to stay with her parents for the remainder of my deployment. The military has been good to us and this was a preemptive move to make things less stressful between the time I left and when she moved to her parents.
