  1. Just keep in mind that I will be going back out there this fall. I try to visit my brother twice a year. Ken
  2. If you are talking about CJRPC website, email the webmaster. They have been under attack from some country in asia. Because of that my IP got blocked there. They fixed it now and its all good. Ken
  3. That is the best advice I could offer you. I started out doing it all single stage a long time ago. I still do it all single stage today. I load a lot of .223, .308, 40, 45, and 460 that way happily. You should try to find and at least speed read the ABC's of reloading. That book will help you focus on what path you want to take. Reloading is not cut and dry. There are many different ways to get to your end goal of loaded ammo. Your needs will and a little understanding through this book will help you ask the rite questions or find the rite class to get on your way...safely! Good Luck Ken
  4. I have never read that either, at least not in any formal publication anyway.. I have however read that you should not do it from powder manufacturers. Now, if you go read on any of the benchrest or hardcore reloading sites you will find people that do it all the time. I guess the reasoning is that you now dont know the true lot number in case of a recal? I dont know? I do know that when you go for super consistent accuracy that even a small difference from lot number to lot number can cause undesirable changes in pressure and velocity, especially if you load to the max. Thats exactly why I try to buy in 8lb containers or at least 1lb containers with the same lot number. Ken
  5. Yes to all above. To get a tour, just ask. They are super friendly out there. Thats cool... I forgot to call you when I was on my way out to the plant. I was so freaked out by all the bullet heads there that I forgot all about everything. I did come home with about 45lb of 69gr matchkings and 168gn matchkings though. It will last me a while. Ken
  6. Since I was in Missouri visiting family I decided to take a ride to Sierra. I purchased over 5000 bullets in 223 and 308 for about $500. I pulled a ton of randoms and measured and weighed and didnt find one a bit out of spec. I also got the opportunity to see some bad ass bullet making machinery! When they start a run of bullets the first barrel that comes out of the machine goes to the outlet store. They have EVERYTHING in stock. Next time I go out there I am buying my 300lb maximum. If any of you guys wind up anywhere near this place it is definitely worth it. They are rite next to starline brass who unfortunately does not have a factory outlet. Ken
  7. I have done that with IMR 4895. I accumulated 5 pounds that all had different lot numbers so I mixed em up in an empty 8 lb bottle and made a few test loads. I had nothing bad happen to me! With pistol ammo and plinking ammo I doubt I would mix them. I have never noticed much more than 20 or so fps in variation from lot to lot but I am kinda particular about my M1A loads. Ken
  8. Before you guys beat me up, I want to let it be known that I would not buy a fire extinguisher from these guys if I was on fire! But, this is the only listing I could find in stock for the OP http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/AMM-484 Ken
  9. Thats a tough one. Rite ow you pretty much have to take what you can get. None of my regular sources even list it rite now. If you reload you have a better chance of finding just the bullet heads. Good Luck Ken
  10. I load with autocomp even though I dont have a comped pistol. I like the way it meters and burns clean. If recoil is not an issue I highly recomend it. My untrained self does not really notice the difference in recoil between autocomp and H-universal in 40 S&W. I do however notice the difference in loading. Autocomp is very consistent in charge to charge variaton. Ken
  11. FWIW, I cant get mine out! I did not have a good start with my Versmax either. The forend nut would not stay tight for anything. It took 2 return trips to remington to get it straightened out but in the end it was fixed. I would not buy another one if I knew then what I know now. You can get a few other self loaders for the same or less money that have far better fit and finish. Ken
  12. Ill have to add them to gun stores I visit regularly in my travels since nobody reallyhas anything bad to say. I dont like going to places that have a crappy reputation. Ken
  13. A good recommendation. I like almost everything Great Lakes brews. My favorite is burning river. The magic hat is only brewed from october to december. Finding more now will be difficult! Ken
  14. I have seen a few mentions of this place in the past. I finally got the time and place rite and had the oportunity to stop in there today. That place is huge! Seems like they had a decent stock of pistols and long guns. Has anyone here shot there? How about purchase a gun? Ken
  15. My new favorite beer of the week: Magic Hat brewing company's Heart of Darkness stout. http://www.magichat.net/elixirs/heartofdarkness/ Ken
  16. On the range pickup practice... I will never load anything that I didnt shoot myself. I will retire batches of brass as soon as I see something weird going on. That usually happens at the range. I try my best to pick up all my brass and put it in the recycling barrel or take it home to scrap it myself. However, If I dont get them all there could be some dangerously worn out brass lying around. That could be why your primer is so flattened out. That piece could be from someone who loads hot and and the case was just wore out to begin with. An excessively loose primer pocket will flatten a primer on a normal load. Loose primer pockets are the main cause for me to start chucking brass. Ken
  17. By the wording of this I think I met you and your son at Solomons on wednesday night. If thats the case, I can put another face to a name. Ken
  18. Or perhaps just the anvil from a primer in there. I have had that happen before. I had to take my trigger group apart to get that sucker out of there. There are a lot of good videos on youtube for taking a lower apart. Its not as hard as it appears and it will give you an opportunity to clean and lube everything in there. You would be surprised how much crud lives in the trigger group and hammer pivot/springs. Ken
  19. Ill work that trade with you. It should be easy enough since we both live in the same town. Ken
  20. Now how could they possibly kill that many people without guns... I hope the anti's read this and just maybee some of them might rethink. Even if we only save one anti! Ken
  21. I dont blame you. If I had a problem like that (cough cough...Redding) I would look to other manufactures myself. I cant stand sub par support. Maybe they have improved. All my dealings have been within the last 6 months. Ken
  22. If I was not far more into rifles than pistols I would probably join there again. I cant do 100 yards through a tube on special days of the year. I qualified in the NRA junior program in the rimfire range of that club many many years ago. I like their facilities and the people. Not so good for high power rifle though. Ken
  23. I love it when they let a few people run the range like that. I think Ive only had that experience 2 times there. Ken
  24. Theres enough of us here from Hightstown, East Windsor, and cranbury that we should have our own get together some day. Does CRRC still prohibit magnums and more than 5 rounds on the indoor range? I havent been in there in about 20 years. Ken
  25. Wow... there is always 2 sides to a coin but I didnt expect to read this. This sounds more like my experinces with the jackasses at redding that dont know how to make a SW460 die. RCBS has always been decent but Hornady was the best. Just out of curiosity, how long ago did you have dealings with them? Mine where within the last year. Ken
