  1. What are the good/bad brands to get today in 2023? (the old thread I found was 2015)

Currently have a 2016 GE top loader (no agitator), about 15% of the time i am manually dumping extra water into it.  It does not have that ‘deep fill’ or ‘add a gallon’ feature.  Its still running fine, but looking to replace it as at 8 years its nearing end of life, and with the new restrictions coming out soon all new models will be garbage.

Had a front loader before this but didn’t really like it.  Getting another top loader would be fine as long as it has the add-extra-water feature.

I see Whirlpool has a top loader with removable agitator, but they seem to be the only brand making this feature.  That feature looks great, as I can pull out the agitator for bulky items (wash alot of blankets from my dogs), and use the agitator for clothes, and it has the deep-fill.

How is Whirlpool today? (i heard they bought maytag).  Or are the LG or Samsung top loaders better?

  2. i went with a Burris elite 3200 scope, 4-12x with adjustable objective mounted on a pepr, and a Magpul Pro buis canted and flipup.  Having the AO is nice with settings from 10 to 300+ yards, making the rotate from iron to scope fast.

My other has a holosun 503bu (circle and dot), with optional qd mounted primary arms 5x.

Started looking for property in Florida. My brother lives down there near Jacksonville and my parents will be moving down soon to be close to the grandkids.

Got a question for anyone in north Florida. What areas should I be looking at for property away from the urban/suburban cities and more towards the boonies? One of the main things I’m looking for is a property big enough to shoot guns on and be far enough away from neighbors so not to disturb them. If anyone has some info to share please pm me. I’d appreciate it.

Nassau county, west of Callahan, by the Georgia border. It’s farm, cattle, and horse country. You can shoot on your own land, and still be on the beach in under an hour. Stay away from the west side of Duval county.

Any advice on north central, I was looking at Ocala area, trying to stay away from the coasts, thinking hurricane damage would be somewhat moderated.

North East costal Florida is safe from the hurricane, it’s a little coastal nook. There are 150+ year old wood framed houses next to 150+ year old oaks 1/4 mile inland. The pirates of yore knew what they were doing.

Honda did some things that all the other pickup manufactures didn't. Like the dual action tailgate, I usually swing it out versus the conventional way of swinging it down. Then, they put the big trunk under the bed, which comes in handy. Yeah, the bed is a little shorter, but I've carried a ton of stuff, like 4x8 sheets, furniture, etc., you just fold down the tailgate, like the longer beds.

I also like the way the split rear seat folds up to make room for poochie to jump in, and there's no driveshaft hump in the way. I've had virtually zero issues with my Ridgeline, had a starter die suddenly, but that's it.

Did the Ridgeline add a locking center diff yet?  I really liked them but at the time they were only awd, went Tacoma for the 4x4, needed it for soft deep sand driving.

  6. I have the Apple TV connected to my Samsung’s. This way that little processor in the tv just runs the image processing, while the Apple handles the streaming and video/sound conversions and processing. It’s a nice interface, and the apps are always kept updated.

Depending on the channels you want, there are lots of good free tv apps, I currently use Pluto (which is owned by ViacomCBS).  If you also get a cheap Roku box, they also have a free live streaming app.  Lots of live streaming themed channels all free.  For paid, I use Hulu ad-free.

I guess his finger pulled the trigger.

Weren’t these single action style revolvers, so he cocked the hammer and pulled the trigger, all with people standing in front of him. If they weren’t all so anti nra, the one hour nra basic safety course could be given each morning of filming action scenes, even a just 15 minute lecture to everyone and she would be alive.

I hope the market holds together until my house goes on market (52 days from now) and sells.

There is a house across the street from me that went on market July 2, and was under contract by July5. It was priced high (and my house has more yard and amenities). Anxious to see what the sale price was.

May be worth it to list it now, people like to be in time for the new school year, possibly paying a premium for that, could be worth it to rent for a month or two?

  9. Synthetic Mobile One oil change question.
Last changed it out 2 years ago, only ran it about an hour each year to prep it. Just checked and it’s still full and clear. What is the storage life of synthetic while it’s inside the genny?

  10. This is not entirely true, and you may not find out until it’s too late. In my case Rutgers did accept all of my one son’s county credits, but said they don’t all apply towards the degree. Even though his associates is the same as the bachelor, they wanted another 3 years.

Get a Honda Ridgeline over a Taco.
The trunk under the bed alone makes it worth it, let alone all the interior storage upgrades and the nicer ride of the Honda.

Depends, both are great. Do you need 4x4 or is awd good enough. I wish the Ridgeline had a center diff lock. The bed storage is really cool, but if you get a flat you are unloading everything to get to the micro spare. That 8 speed trans is still a bit new but looks promising. End of the day, can’t go wrong with either.

A standby generator is all that.  I used to also have a 4k portable but gave it to my FIL.   At some point it's just extra.  Even if the standby failed, the fireplace insert can be run off a 12v battery and an inverter.  That was my first level before I had any generators.

Of course, I'm moving to Florida where it's 32 in the morning on the coldest day of the year and 55 by noon.  Hardly life threatening.

The storms in Florida happen in the summer when it’s 80.  I have a tri fuel inverter I run on grill propane tanks to power the fridge, computer, and a small room window ac unit.

  13. If you go with an xx60 card you will be replacing it in a year, spend the little bit more for at least xx70 series. Or look for a used 1080-TI

You can also go for a 2k gaming monitor, will get 100fps in all titles on ultra with not much visual difference between 2k and 4k.  Otherwise you need a 3080, or just go with an etch-a-sketch.
