  1. When I am buying a new car, already spending a big chunk of change. I add in the extended warranty then, but there are some rules I follow:

    - only buy the manufacturers warranty, no third parties

    - spend the little extra for no deductible option. Saves you from being nickeled later.

    - negotiate the price. You can get the manufacturer warranty from any dealer. Look up the actual cost on the net, you can get it for not much over cost.

If you keep the car many years, it's good to know at the end of it's life you won't get hit with a big repair bill. If you sell the car, the warranty can be transferred, usually getting you more bucks as it puts the buyer at ease.

Only negative is if the car gets totaled, you can cancel the plan, but you won't get full price back.

  2. Every child is different, but for all of mine they first shot a bolt action at camp, then I brought them to the local range with a ruger 10/22. After firing the semi-auto, none of them had any further interest in bolt action. Perhaps go to the range and rent a semi, just to make sure before plinking down cash for something where the attention span may not last that long.

  3. Cant go wrong with either choice. I have the SW ORC and am quite fond of it. You can get these closer to the $800 price, your quote is much too high. For optics, I have a 3-9X 40mm scope as I am mostly targeting at 100 yards. I also have an emergency backup iron sight system by JP-Enterprises, mounted on a DanielDefence 1-oclock rail, it's good enough for up to 15 yards. I don't have to remove my scope to use it, just roll the stock a bit. For mounting a light, a Magpul handgrip can add rails to.

  4. I have the MP15 OR compliant model, and am very happy with it.

It came with everything I wanted, all the correct chromed parts, quality build.

I hate having a non-moving movable stock, so switched it to an a2, then magpul'd the grip and front. I mostly use it at 100 yards, so it has a 3-9x scope (I liked how this model did not have a gas block front sight). I also put a JP Enterprises sight mounted on a DD 1-oclock mount for close up. I feel I did very well for my first AR.

  5. Wow, I'm not spending that much money on a comp. I think the PWS price of nearly $100 is rediculous. I appreciate the suggestion, I'm just way too cheap for that.

I am cheap also. The work I would need is threading, dis&re-assembly, break welding, I am up there in price and didn't even buy the break yet! That, and the breaks are a pain to clean. I think I will leave my target crown as is for now, and wait until I move to a better state so I can get what I really want.

  6. I currently have a target crown on a 16" barrel, too many noisy comp stories. Was thinking of the PWS, but this also seems noisy. The Battlecomp 1.5 looks good, as well as the EGW.

Where is a good place to get the barrel threaded and comp installed?

  7. This is true. But how often does one find issues with ammo types or their tolerance?

If you reload your own ammo, then revolver is great. No case resizing or crimp issues. I started on a revolver, and the only thing I liked about it was extremely cheap and easy to reload. As for target shooting, 25 yards in d-a was not fun. Come to think of it, even s-a was not fun with having to pull the hammer back for each and every shot. After about a year I switched to semi-auto and never looked back. Its also much easier and faster to clean the semi-auto vs the revolver after a session at the range.
