  1. I am keeping is extremely simple this time around - 11 wide open paper targets. Should be a a piece of cake......
  2. Just got an "official" word - its $20 non-member.
  3. Hard to argue that. $10 for non members and you get pizza? Thats their problem right there. If they want to reduce the number of people that choose to show up, they need to stop treating them so nicely. If you have not already, you may want to give our (OB) Friday (1st & 3rd) matches a shot. These are run very similarly to SCFGPA - 4 stages shot at the indoor range two stages at a time with an 18 rounds per stage maximum. I believe both of us would shoot any discipline that involves pulling a trigger and hitting a target. In the end it comes down to time. IDPA is just one of many things that I would shoot regularly if I had no other responsibilities.
  4. Yeah, can you please PM me his e-mail? I really do not want this thread to deteriorate into another flame war. I am staying firm in my opinion that IDPA can be a fun game. I still do not put much stock into the idea that it provides anything of tactical value beyond any other gun game. Neither Vlad nor I had any problems with taking cover, engagement order, slicing the pie, or any other rule. Neither of us picked up a single procedural in the course of the three stages we completed. I was a bit tentative earlier simply because I was shooting a 1911 which is not a gun that I shoot that much but I had IDPA compliant gear for it. Somewhat "fuzzy" application of rules was a bit of an irritant. Being a guest in someone else's house I had just shut up and shot. End of the day its coke and pepsi. Some people have a definite preference for one over the other. Others can barely tell them apart.
  5. I am not sure there is any uniformity to it, but I did not finish one of the matches I shot before and I got scored for the stages that I did shoot. Anyway it was an interesting experience.
  6. Unfortunately that was my fault. I really did not think it would run as late as it did and had a prior engagement. It would have been nice to finish the match, but Vlad and I both agreed that we had a good re-fresher on IDPA. How/when are scores distributed?
  7. Why did you swap the factory barrel?
  8. I still have the setup I used the last time. I am assuming it will still be legal.
  9. Vlad did that include any kind of service contracts - like spare parts and refurbishing?
  10. I assume that means that you will be shooting CDP? OK, I will do the same. I have not shot IDPA since 2008....and I shot grand total of 2 IDPA matches in my life.
  11. Does it really start at 10:00 am? What time does it really run till?
  12. I am going to have a BBQ if the weather is nice. Otherwise I will have to re-schedule to the 22nd.
  13. OK, you and I both know that after Jim gets done with his alterations the sharks will be replaced by goldfish, there will be a bridge over a filled in moat, and the rope will be cut down and used to form a box from which the entire stage will shot.
  14. I think this stage is a good example of why I question IDPA as far as forming better habits than USPSA. I am sure the stage description read something like - "Engage T1 & T2 on the move while retreating to cover." Is that what you would do in the real world scenario? I think I would do the following: Going from the most preferred to the least preferred. 1.Run as fast as I can to cover and then keep on running while keeping as much cover as I can between myself and the bad guys. I do not think I would even draw my gun. 2. Run as fast as I can for cover while drawing my gun and then engage bad guys. 3. Run as fast as I can for cover wile popping a couple of shots in the general direction of the bad guys then engage them from cover. In reality #1 should probably be #1, #2, & #3 and 2 & 3 should be 4 & 5. I hope so. Printed communication lacks severely in the emotional context. Frequently things stated in jest are taken seriously while things said seriously are perceived as sarcasm ... etc. This tends to lead to a lot of misunderstandings even between people that know each other, never mind complete strangers.
  15. I'll go further and say that even people with the same level of experience from the same discipline can produce vastly different results even doing something that is familiar to them. Vlad and I are at a roughly similar level, but there were certainly plenty of matches where there was a wide gap between us performance wise. This is not exact science by any means. That is why there needs to be a degree of caution in assuming that any results would be statistically significant.
  16. Lets keep in mind that there will be people with guns there. There is only so much you can get away with before they start getting tempted to use them on something other than paper.
  17. In that case all the targets should have painted hard cover simulating them also taking cover.
  18. And every shot will have to be taken with extreme amount of cover to the point of forcing you to shoot either strong or weak hand only.
  19. I have to say that "dickiness" factor of our matches have suffered from your absence as a stage designer. I do what I can, but those are pretty big shoes to fill.
  20. Yes, its always the 4th sunday.
  21. Registration will open on Saturday May 14th.
  22. Is it significant enough to make a difference in a scenario? It would make sense to do a test. IMHO there is no significant difference. I feel use of cover is more of a conscious choice, not a reflexive one. Furthermore I feel that the amount of cover required by IDPA is actually less than what you would want to have if someone is shooting back. And I also feel that USPSA stages can and do force you to shoot from greater amount of cover than IDPA via placement of fault lines. The difference in handling reloads, is unlikely to come into play in any civilian scenario. Order of engagement is the only element that may provide meaningful difference. But having said that near to far is not necessarily the best order in every situation. Regardless it would be interesting to see how those who shoot the disciplines exclusively or near so react in the same scenario. Whats training? Something you do by yourself to re-enforce what you learned from the class? I would take that as a given. Or do you mean something else? Well that is going to be a challenge with everyone involved. End of the day we all know that those are not real bullets and the worst thing you can suffer is bruised ego (and some minor bruising from impacts). I am not sure that this is more stress than timer provides in a match. I am sure that Vlad and I will gain something out of it. I also think we will be honest about our experience. And if the goal is to find out how mid-level USPSA shooters react in FoF simulation, we will accomplish that, though two people is a rather small sample.
