  1. Damn, you guys have corrupted me. Not only do I now have the two knives I mentioned earlier on this thread, but I added an S&W M&P folder http://www.amazon.com/Smith-Wesson-SWMP5LS-Linerlock-Generation/dp/B0037H29XY/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1310516116&sr=1-1 and a SOG axe.

    G19 or M&P9?

Man, that looks like it could get expensive in a hurry!
  3. Yeah, that 590A1 looks pretty cool. I hope I can overcome the compulsion to go out and get one.
  4. Oops, you caught me in a rare typo. I've edited the thread heading to the correct spelling of "Montvale."
  5. What are some of the significant differences, if any, between the 590A1 and the 500 Persuader/Cruiser (#50577) that looks like this: http://www.mossberg.com/images/Mossberg_Guns/930/NEW/50577.jpg I have the latter, so I was wondering how they differ.

  7. While my six months of shooting hardly qualify me as an expert, as my screen name would suggest, I have some familiarity with Glocks. Like you, I started with a Glock 23, gen.?; then added a G19, gen.4. I next added a Beretta 92A1, which is a thing of beauty, in contrast to the utilitarian looks and function of the Glocks. Also like you, I struggled with what to get next. I considered adding something in .45 ACP, like the G21, but decided that it would simplify my ammo situation to stick with 9mm. I decided that I liked the M&P 9mm Pro Series, but S&W will not ship it to NJ (I called them a few times to verify), due to its 17 round mags. It was then that I stumbled onto the Glock 34. With its longer barrel (not sure if the trigger is any different), it possessed some of the features I had sought in the M&P Pro, its 10 round mags make it NJ legal. Got it a few weeks ago, and I'm totally smitten with it. Like you, I keep the G23 for HD, and use the G19 more at the range and for a couple of tactical shooting classes that I've taken. If the G19 is a pleasure to shoot, the G34 is a dream! I'm not a great shooter, but even I am pretty accurate with that baby. While my G23 and G19 have Trijicon night sights, so far I have stayed with the stock sights on the G34. The thought of being able to carry is mostly a far off pipedream, but if it ever comes about, I guess the G19 would be my choice. I have a Blackhawk Serpa holster, which has worked well for the tactical shooting classes, although I'm not really qualified to offer an opinion on how well it would work for a CCW. As a bonus. the same holster works for all three of my Glocks. You might consider doing a search for Hickok 45 on YouTube. He has a number of good videos out where he reviews the Glocks, although when I searched, I was unable to find anything on the G34.
  8. Just noticed that when I went to check when they're returning from vacation. Guess they weren't feeling the love. Looks like they re-open tomorrow.
  9. Thanks for the picture. I've wondered how much they were affected by the storm. Anyone else have any info?
  10. Epic thread, epic post. Be safe everyone.

    G19 or M&P9?

Amen to that brother! OTOH as Caine notes, why not get both? I've had a G19 gen.4 for a few months and love it; but I currently have an M&P 9mm on hold and plan to pick it up as soon as my OGAM wait is up.
  12. Thanks for the heads up. That RWS ammo seems to get good reviews, as the OP noted. Even though I already have a few thousand rounds of 9mm ammo, I couldn't resist this bargain!
  13. Good discussion. Interesting to hear that Perry uses "deadly hollow point bullets" and "a laser sight for precise killing." Also noteworthy is that the writer apparently believes the term "Glock" is generic for a gun, as he mentions in the lead paragraph that Perry carries a .380 Ruger, then goes on further in the story to wonder "how the Secret Service would react if the president wanted to pack a Glock."
  14. Copy that. But I have a Glock 23 handy as well.
  15. I don't know how you missed this discussion (don't let the title fool you): http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/25039-new-range-in-west-patersonwoodland-park/ Check them out at www.RTSPonline.com Like you, I seem to have an affinity for Glocks. Of my four HG's, three are Glocks: the G23 I mentioned; a G19, gen.4; and a newly acquired G34, which I love, and which you are of course welcome to try. Like you, I have an M&P put aside while I wait my 30 days, but mine is in 9mm.
  16. Oops, forgot to mention my preparedness story. (It's slightly off-topic, but doesn't warrant another thread.) A couple of Saturdays ago, I woke up to find that I had no running water. I immediately thought of the opening sequence on Best Defense that shows a spigot with water barely dripping out, and said to myself, "Uh oh, it's starting! Time to go off the grid. Sure wish I had prepared a little more." Then I went out to put out my garbage and saw trucks on my street. One of the workmen told me of a water main break, and advised that they hoped to have the water back on in a few hours. I had a couple of cups of coffee (tank of filtered water) and went out for a morning run. Coincidentally, I was heading out for an all-day NRA Basic Pistol class, so when I came back, I had no choice but to sponge off with some bottled water (not refrigerated, luckily), and off I went. It's good to be prepared for emergencies!
  17. I've been around a long time, and I've seen a few hurricanes blow through. From my experiences, I've learned a few things. For one, the media love to sensationalize events like hurricanes, blizzards, heat waves, on and on. For another, I have never seen a hurricane have much effect on inland communities. Oh, if I were at the shore I would be concerned, but up here in Wayne, I'm guessing we will experience heavy rains and strong winds, nothing to require boarding up our windows. We may well have some local flooding, but we get that at least once a year, and often two or three times in a year. Having said all that, I truly enjoy these discussions of preparedness. I've got some food and water stashed, plenty of propane and firewood, and lots of ammo. I believe having made such preparations gives one peace of mind. Furthermore, it avoids having to run down to Loew's or Home Depot to fight the crowds for supplies. I do not have a back-up generator, so if my power goes down I will face the hardship of not being able to visit with my friends on NJGF. Other than that, I should be OK.
  18. Rauchman, thanks so much for your input. I would love to catch up with you sometime at the BH to compare Glock notes. I have not been down there much lately, since I joined Cherry Ridge a few months ago; but as the weather gets colder, I'm sure I'll be there more often (or at the new place in Morris County).
  19. Anyone have any advice for adjusting the sights to zero the GSG-522. I'm really struggling to even get it on paper. Love the way it looks and shoots, but I can't hit anything with it.
  20. Felt very mild movement here in Wayne, for only about 10-15 seconds.
