  1. I have a Serpa that I have used in classes with no problems, but with so many instructors discouraging their use or outright banning them, I have not used mine in a long time.
  2. Just watched a short video from Washington Gun Law on The State That Will Only Give a Carry License to John Wick. Anyone care to guess what state he's talking about? Yes, it's our very own beloved Garden State. He says that the test is so difficult that only a small number of people are going to be able to pass it.
  3. Here's a new video from She Equips Herself that gives some tips on a few products to help with concealed carry:
  4. Welcome aboard! You will find lots of good folks and good info here.
  5. I have always found this discussion of keeping long guns at hand to be interesting. In the past, I have at times kept an unloaded shotgun in the back of my car. With shells close by, I've thought that I could load a few and be ready to go in a few seconds. I have heard Nappen say that while it is technically illegal to load a firearm, under "exigent circumstances" it could be OK (like in Uvalde). The biggest problem with having one available at all times is that one must be careful about where to travel, so avoiding schools and government buildings, and leaving the state. Another intriguing possibility is to have loaded mags near a rifle or carbine, so one could pop one in and be up and running in seconds. Any opinions on the legality of that?
  6. I don't get all the hubbub about this. We have until October for them to sort it out. Why the panicked rush?
  7. i think that is exactly what they are hoping for. BTW, that is a pretty rigorous course of fire. I have done a lot of training and think I could probably pass, but it certainly gets my attention.
  8. I don't mean to gloat, but I have posted how NICS checks in Florida take 5-10 minutes, or even less. It appears that they respect the "I" for instant. Having to return to a store to pick up a purchase a day or a few later can be a major, needless inconvenience.
  9. I totally get your point and mostly agree, but you can't really include the cost of the gun and holster in there. Still pretty expensive, especially considering that we have to do it all again in two years.
  10. Yes, I was just trying to make the distinction between the outlying stores (including the Macy's furniture store), and the rest of that mall where signs say firearms are prohibited.
  11. My wife and I stopped in at the new BJ's adjacent to Willowbrook Mall. As the store is not directly connected to the rest of the mall, and as there were no signs barring firearms, I saw no reason not to carry there. Anyone else been there and have any thoughts on that?
  12. I know that silver bullets are for werewolves, but not so sure about gold.
  13. We have a major renovation going on at our home in Seaside Park. We worked with Mark Marcille, who has offices in Metuchen and Seaside Park. He has been great, but I have no idea if he works in your area. You might try giving him a call to find out.
  14. Perfect advice from Krkshrk above. I've done it many times, and it's really not a big deal. It's usually easier on the return trip from anywhere else than it is from Newark, but at most it's a minor inconvenience that adds about 15-20 minutes to your check-in.
  15. The law says carry is prohibited in establishments that "serve" alcohol, not where it is consumed, so a BYO would seem to be OK. OTOH, Nappen, who tends to be very cautious in his recommendations, has advised against it, saying that no one wants to be a test case.
  16. More on the subject from The Federalist this morning: https://thefederalist.com/2023/06/22/noted-constitutional-scholar-joe-biden-explains-the-second-amendment/
  17. I've said this before, but I think it's worth repeating. It's a bit troubling to realize that our Constitutional rights hinge on the political whims of the particular judges who handle these cases.
  18. Mr. Stu, with no disrespect intended to you, a well-respected poster, this entire page and a half of angst over new training requirements is based on third party hearsay?
  19. I'm reluctant to start a new thread on this, but I'm wondering if I need a dedicated lock box for my car, or if it would be sufficient to lock my holstered handgun in my center console or in my glove box, both of which are lockable. I suppose there are two considerations: 1. Complying with the confusing law, and 2. Keeping bad guys from getting guns. The last time my car was broken into was around 40 years ago when my cassette player was stolen, so that's probably not much of a concern. It's more that pesky legal requirement that has me concerned.
  20. Pretty bad up here in north Jersey in Wayne. My grandaughter's school day at the town pool was cancelled due to the poor air quality.
  21. I almost always carry IWB just behind my right hip, at 4:00. Gun seems to disappear there. I have occasionally tried AWIB, and while the draw is generally faster from there, I don't like that the barrel points at ones fermoral artery and other important stuff in that position. As others have noted, a little printing does not seem to be much of a concern, but OWB with summer clothing the bulge would be pretty noticeable. I'm thinking it's going to work better with heavier clothing in cooler weather.
  22. Just bought a really nice OWB leather holster from We the People Holsters. I have carried for several years with various IWB holsters, and I realized that I'm not sure what kind of cover garment to wear with an OWB holster. For those more knowledgeable, would the OWB be better in cooler weather, under a long flannel shirt, a hoodie, or something like that? I'm kind of slim, and I'm thinking I would have a hard time concealing it under summer clothing.
