  1. Hmmm... If I can get out of my monthly Planning Board meeting I'd love to take you up on that offer! I am going to try and get to Shore Shot with a friend next week. I will check their .45 selection. Someone also mentioned to look at the FN Herstal stuff. I also did not realize how the timing of the handgun purchases worked. So, as soon as my Beretta gets here and I take delivery then I need to wait 30 days until I take possession of the next one..... I thought I was going to be waiting 90 days, thanks for the info guys!
  2. Ok, now that I am legal and have my permits I can finally do some shopping! Bought my first-ever gun from Tim on here, a shotgun for Trap/Skeet shooting. I have my first and second handgun picked-out (thanks to Tim!). Thinking about the third (90 days from now) I am thinking of a .45 ACP handgun. I have big hands, thinking of a 1911 type gun. I looked at Kimbers site and got lost. They simply have TOO MANY different guns! Not that it's a bad thing, but it gets so confusing.......... This won't be a safe queen, I plan on using it. Would love to hear suggestions and comments about the different .45 handguns out there. I plan on going to Shore Shot in the next few weeks and rent some there to get a feel for different types. I did shoot a friends Taurus Judge with .45ACP and found it very smooth. Much smoother than his .40 Glock.
  3. Ok, a local place by me puts price tags on their stuff showing what a customer will pay if they use plastic. If they pay in cash, they will knock at least 3% off that fee. If someone haggles a bit and asks for a total price for a gun, ammo, maybe something else, they can actually get the original item for 5% off, sometimes more. As stated above, the shops don't make much profit from the sale of new guns. They do make a decent profit from accessories and used guns. There is a LOT of wiggle-room on used guns, don't be afraid to haggle there. Many times someone will go into a store and want to get rid of a few guns they no longer want and trade them in for a new gun. They are lucky to get .25 on the dollar for their trade-in and the shops can turn around and make a decent profit when they eventually sell them.
  4. See, even though you and I had connections within our local PD's it still takes quite sometime. I was somewhere between 5 and 6 weeks.
  5. I'm up for it, you buying the ammo? How about .38 instead of the .357, that should be an easier round. I have a Beretta 96 INOX on order as my first handgun. Most likely the next will be a S & W 686 with a 6" barrel. Gotta see if the wife likes the weight of that first, I did!
  6. So, I guess I need to go hang out at my parents house in Millstone and bring my "stuff" with me.
  7. Pete AKA PH_Armory, we need to meet-up sometime and talk about the AR building. I am really interested in doing that rather than buying an off the shelf gun. Sometimes I like building my race cars more than driving them. I want to see what is involved in building a gun.
  8. Sorry to hear about your frustration Hank, I know the pain, and so do many here. I just received all my stuff today after about a five week wait. Seemed like an eternity, and I have friends on the force that were actually doing my stuff. Normally it is 2 to 3 months in my town.
  9. There are a LOT of videos on Youtube about that device. Basically, it decapitates the birds....... And it appears to do it very well. There are actually other devices out there that do the same thing. I never, ever thought of something like that. Pretty ingenious while at the same time very morbid! No bullet holes in your dinner.
  10. So I was watching TV the other night, a show called Handguns. One of the commercials was for a device called the Magnus Bullhead. Screws onto the end of an arrow. Then they proceded to demonstrate it. I could not believe my eyes! Got on Google and sure enough, this thing is for real! So, who out here hunts and uses this thing? I'm not a hunter, but I love guns! My brother-in-law though loves to catch his dinner fresh, gotta see if he used one of these. Had to show the commercial to my daughter (she is going into forensic science). She was also amazed at the turkeys and other feathered-friends flopping around with no heads!
  11. Ha, good ole internet! I will be getting my 96 INOX soon, I prefer the kick of the .40 myself. As far as cost for ammo, while the 9mm is slightly less expensive, there really isn't that much of a cost difference. If you want cheap shooting fun, get a .22. Buying ammo in bulk is certainly the way to go. My second handgun will be a S & W 686, probably 6" barrel. Can run .38 special or .357 magnum thru it, that should be fun. Besides, that is also the gun my wife wants for herself!
  12. 1. Application type: Initial FID permit plus 4 P2P's. 2. Police Dept: South River 3. Name of person I dealt with: Diane 4. Time to issue: Just under 6 weeks 5. Documents required by the PD: References to 2 people (non-relatives) and letter to Employer (basically a 3rd reference) 6. Notes: Very painless process, except for the wait! Did not pay for any of the permits until the day I picked them up (today!)
  13. South River, FID + 4 P2P's, started March 7th (I think), finger printed was done on March 10th, have receipt, got everything today, April 14th. Right-around 5 weeks. Wife is doing hers too, we are keeping track of hers better than I did mine.
  14. Ron is a really nice guy (Legacy Firearms). I was there the other day, I saw that Sig in the corner rack. Maybe one year I'll have my permits and can do business with him.............
  15. Hmmm... I guess the potato guns we used to make are also illegal here.
  16. How rediculous is this whole thread? We should not even have to have this discussion. Who are the morons that passed the legislation that defined BB guns as firearms? You gotta be f-ing kidding me! I have a BB gun pistol that was given to me by my father 35 years ago. Now, after reading on this forum, I find that I am illegaly in possession of a firearm. So, the law states that I must get a NJFID card and a P2P for this BB gun. Well, I actually have applied for both, but there is no way in hell I am going to waste a P2P that I may wait 3 months (or longer) to get to "transfer" ownership of that BB gun to me. I don't use it, haven't touched it in 20 years. I'll just have to hide it so I don't get caught with it. This state is run so bass-ackwards it simply amazes me to no end. Sorry, rant-over. Do yourself a favor, don't try to skirt the law, it won't be worth it.
  17. Welcome from a fellow River Rat!
  18. I am getting peeved at this whole process to say the least. I was told 2 to 3 months is the typical wait. Wait for what? The references were back in their hands in two days. Fingerprinting was done the same week the application was submitted. Just what am I waiting for? A "cooling-off" period? I don't wanna stir-up trouble, this is a VERY small town, but 2 to 3 months is rediculous. Is it the State Poilce that tie this up? Or the mental health check? How the heck do they know what hospitals/institutions to even check with? Is there a national database for loonies? Well, yeah there is, the people that applied and received their FID cards, they are all in a database! Guess I will just keep bugging my friend to go shooting. I won't be allowed to buy a gun for quite sometime............. Rediculous. Are all states this way? IE: Does every state in this country require an FID card to buy a long gun?
  19. I have shot .40 with my friends Glock, followed by 9mm in another friends 90-TWO Baretta, followed by .45 in the first friends Taurus Judge (along with .410 shotgun shells). I think the Glock with .40 had the most kick. The 90-TWO was very smooth. The Taurus was also very smooth, suprisingly! It feld about the same as the 9mm. Even after all that I still plan on buying a Beretta 96FS INOX, I love the look and the feel. And we won't get into the SB vs BB debate, I happen to have a SBC that will out-run most BBC's.
  20. It seems that if you aren't buying a gun safe that weighs-in at least 2000lbs people think they're junk. If you are trying to prevent them from being stolen, then maybe some of those people are correct. I have watched a few videos of people breaking into safes. I need one to prevent my kids from getting to the guns and ammo, not for protection from a burgular. My dog is there for that. If they get past him and the alarm system and my neighbors don't call the police then I have a problem. My local police respond within a minute, no kidding! Small town and we live 20 ft from each other.
  21. Holy crapolly............ All this BS has me totally confused! When I finally get my FID and P2P permit I plan on buying a rifle and a handgun the same day, is this going to be a problem? I assume that NICS has to be called for the handgun, but what about the rifle? I watched how quickly the NICS check went for another customer, whopping 2 minutes, can I expect it to be that painless since all this background BS was just done?
  22. Check with Ron at Legacy Firearms. He has a LOT of older and antique rifles, I bet he can help you. He is in Wall Township. http://www.legacyfirearms.com/Home.htm I'm sure some of the other vendors on here could also help you.
  23. I'd love to call them if I had my FID! Five weeks and counting.............. Funny how so many people describe locations in NJ using Exit #'s from major roadways. Wonder if CA is the same way. I tell people I live off Exit 9. No need to tell them that it's the NJTPK. People from NJ always seem to know.
  24. So, how/where did you buy that gun? All the sites I looked-at won't sell it to people in NJ (and several other states).
  25. Ron from Legacy Firearms should become a sponsor here, another GREAT guy to deal with in Central Jersey. I know what you mean with Sayreville Sportsman................. And they are 2 miles from me.
