  1. This crap has been going on for years and years now. No one knows what is in the treaty, it has not even been written yet. No one knows what guns it will effect, and to what extent. Also, any treaty must be ratified by the US Senate as well. Everything you have read about it is speculation. Of course, none of these inconvenient facts seem to keep the NRA, right wing bloggers, and every paranoid redneck from here to Idaho from freaking out about it.
  2. The solution to this is simple. Let's just all call them, every day, and ask if they have WASR/Saiga/Mak-90 in stock. All day.
  3. I blame the judicial system and police unions, personally. If these guys went out, acted like thugs, then a district attorney aggressively pursued the same charges they would for a criminal without a badge, and a judge/jury threw them into prison for a decade or two, you'd see police behavior straighten out very quickly. But when all these guys get is a paid suspension, a mean article about them in the local paper and maybe, maybe, MAYBE a little slap on the wrist, they are given the go-ahead to behave in this manner with impunity. Once in a while you see one of these guys get sent to the pen but for every one that ends up in a cell are ten others who are back in a cop car in a matter of weeks.
  4. They probably do. However, since we are talking cushy office jobs with the NJSP, they are likely on vacation days, sick days, lunch break, coffee break, smoke break, 7th inning stretch, and siesta, at alternating intervals so as a result of this they likely never encounter a co-worker.
  5. No, they are not. In fact, the majority of employees at these companies often have no interest in guns outside of work, or can't even afford to own one and shoot regularly. The company keeps a dozen and a half guns at the base for employees to use. vfj915 said it best. I also have first hand, personal experience with this, so please trust me on this one. What we are saying is many companies in NJ own firearms for use as described above. There are also guns sitting at the Bullet Hole for employees of said company to qualify with for their permits. So somewhere, somehow, is an exemption for companies of some sort buried in NJ law for a company to own a firearm.
  6. Forget legality. Does your wife even know how to use a gun? Not trying to be a dick, but even if it were legal, if she can't handle, much less shoot a gun, in a self defense situation, then you have bigger problems to worry about than legality. This isn't the movies.
  7. Has anyone been prosecuted under this new law yet? Seems like NJSP is just doing nasty phone calls, rather than felony arrests.
  8. How can this be? Many security companies own guns, dozens of them, which their employees check in and out daily for use during the work day. The gun belongs to the company, doesn't it? Far as I know, Garda, Dunbar, Loomis, and Brinks all have guns available for employees who have carry permits, but not purchase permits, to carry during work. In fact, most of their carry permits are even issued to them with the company gun's make/model/serial on the back of their permit. Also, the companies own guns which they leave at the Bullet Hole for you guys to have them use during qualifications. Garda and Dunbar both come to mind. I am curious to understand how this situation works. For all these major companies to be doing this, there must be some sort of provision/exemption/whatever for companies to own guns in NJ.
  9. Ignorance, racism, intolerance, and a health dose of disgrace. This is exactly the kind of stuff gun-owners should be doing to fight the stereotype that they're all inbred, racist hillbillies. PS Both Kosher and Halal regard pork as unclean, yet for some reason, making fun of Muslims is cool but making fun of jews is Anti-Semetic.
  10. Not necessarily. Most handgun rounds only go through one side of a car, so you'd be safe. Now, rifle rounds would be a different story.
  11. Who the fugg negs me every time I make a realistic post? Not that I give a damn, but some of you guys need a little reality check. Being positive is nice, but don't shoot the damn messenger for posting the sad truth that you don't want to hear. SAFs case has been weakened as a result of this. Big time. You will notice that in McDonald v. Chicago Mr. McDonald had his home broken into and been threatened by criminals prior to the lawsuit. He demonstrated a threat that has already come to fruition, not one that comes from his imagination. Yes, it can happen to anyone, but "I was kidnapped by a violent motorcycle gang, dragged cross country to be executed and survived only because I escaped" has an impact that "well I carry a lot of money for work, and I'm kinda worried something may happen one day" If you think that the NJ legislature, and the judges and NJSP, who all work in collusion to deny you of your right to carry a gun are stupid, you have another thing coming. Go ahead, keep making yourself feel better by assuming your opponents are fools. You will find that you are sorely mistaken.
  12. This is a smart move by the state and a bad situation for SAF. Muller was the lead plaintiff in the suit. He was the guy with a SERIOUS problem and a real, concrete, already happen, proof of threat from violent criminals who intended to kill him. That's the kind of guy people on the fence side with. That's the kind of guy that gets understood by the newspapers. The others have just as valid a reason as anyone, but purely hypothetical. While Muller needed a gun for something that happened, the others merely need one for something that MAY happen. Not good for SAF.
  13. And there's nothing in Florida besides the highest foreclosure rate in the nation, the highest number of abandoned or vacant houses in the nation, and a shortage of jobs that is likely unprecedented. People from FL love to talk crap about NJ, but there's a reason so many of them are moving back to NJ. Say what you want, feel what you want, but an AR-15 and CCW permit aren't worth jack if you don't have a roof over your head.
  14. The presence of a concealed weapon is by no means a guarantee of safety or the assurance of a happy ending to any story. Plenty of people pull a gun in self defense only to either fail to stop the threat, or be shot anyway. The gun board fantasy is always an obvious crook 30ft away with a knife. But in real life, you're not carrying a gun because you're worried about Jason Voorhees. Well, at least I'd hope not. It takes a lot of training to effectively draw, let alone use, a concealed weapon in an effective manner. Just because some weekend warrior can punch neat holes in a target on the weekend means jack squat in a self defense scenario. If you have the ability to, try doing jumping jacks until you're winded, then try drawing your gun from a concealed holster and doing some double taps. It's a nice reality check to show how different something as little as physical exertion, let alone adrenaline and pure terror in a real life situation, effect your shooting skills. You likely are not the hot shot sharpshootin' cowboy you think you are. Now, this isn't to say that CCW should not be permitted, quite the opposite, in fact. It should be accessible to all aside from the mentally ill, or obvious threats to society. What I'm trying to say is that you, and pro-gun advocates in general, cripple your own argument when you try to frame CCW as something that always results in a happy ending. It doesn't. CCW is simply the ability to have a chance to defend yourself, rather than no chance at all.
  15. Story #3: A man is traveling through the city at night with his wife and teenage daughter on their way back from a visit with grandma and grandpa. He is an off-duty police officer, his wife works at a day care center and their daughter is a junior in high school. They stop at a light behind an old beat-up Junker; the man doesn’t notice that the car behind him is just a little too close. Suddenly two young men approach his car with guns drawn. He draws his off-duty sidearm from his holster and shoots one of the attackers in the shoulder. The other attacker fires four shots, killing the off duty cop and severely injuring his wife. The assailants flee and are caught a short time later. The officer's wife is expected to never walk again and the injured assailant makes a full recovery. The local district attorney, police chief, and a senator hold a press conference and call for new restrictions on firearms.
