  1. Thats now two people I know that Tony's convinced to get the 92A1. Hey, I wonder if he works for Beretta? :-)
  2. Tony - Another new gun? And so soon? You Da Man !! I definitely will get the Beretta 92A1 (GREAT all-around pistol), but my son keeps mentioning "how about a 1911"? I'll just have to go to the range with you!! :-)
  3. 92FS? Ha! I'm going with the 92A1, the 2010 version of the 92FS. Wouldn't be seen with that "old" 92FS..... (just kidding)
  4. You guys offer the best advice ... thanks ! This is why I enjoy being a member on the NJGF.
  5. I will be purchasing a Beretta 92A1 as soon as my FID / hg permit arrives. As you know this is a 9 mm. Question: Why would one want to get the 96A1, which is .40 cal, instead? I guess its a more powerful round, but again for range shooting and possibly (if ever?) home defense, isn't the 9 mm sufficient? Isn't 9 mm ammo cheaper than .40 cal ammo? Or is it like the guy with the small-block V8 vs the guy with the big-block V8 ... the guy with the big-block wants the biggest and baddest version, and sometimes just because... Your thoughts?
  6. Yes, you are correct....comes with 3 mags. I believe they are teflon coated (new). Also, forgot about the new captive recoil spring assembly....makes taking it apart and putting together that much easier. From the Beretta site: New for 2010, the Model 92A1 and 96A1 represent Beretta’s evolution of the world famous 92FS pistol. Combining the best elements of the 92FS and the 90-Two,these pistols feature: A. Higher capacity magazines: 17 rounds in 9mm. Completely interchangeable with other 92 family magazines. THREE magazines included per pistol. B. Removable front sight: Allows the user to easily replace a damaged sight or replace it with an accessory sight. C. Accessory rail: The frame of the A1’s have an integral MIL-STD-1913 rail for rapid attachment of tactical lights and laser aiming devices. D. Internal recoil buffer: Increases service life by reducing stress on the receiver created by the more powerful .40 S&W caliber ammunition. E. Captive recoil spring assembly: The single-piece design simplifies the assembly and disassembly process and minimizes the possibility of spring loss. F. Rounded trigger guard: Updated styling to conform with current pistol gripping practices. SWEET !!! Can't wait to get !!!
  7. OK, waiting so far since March 1 for my FID/purchase permit to come back. As they say, any day now .... :-( Anyway, this waiting time has allowed me to do research, after research. Read blog after blog. Analyze needs vs wants. I've now narrowed it down to the Beretta 92A1, since just like the 92FS but also includes a few extra goodies that Beretta felt they wanted to add (light rail, removable front sight, internal recoil buffer, etc).....all of this for about $40 more !! The wait goes on though.....
  8. I believe the internal recoil buffer is only on the .40 cal version (96A1), not the 92A1 (9mm). I had my mind all set on the 92A1, then found out it only comes with a 10 round magazine (vs 15 rd mag for 92FS). Is this true? If so, do you think thats sort of a negative vs the 92FS? Its also about $50 more expensive.
  9. Awesome, congrats on your purchase. If you don't mind, can you let me know if you shopped around alot? Also, what price and where did you finally buy it from?
  10. Might just have to take you up on that....sure sounds like alot of fun ! :-) I'll be honest, I don't know a thing about competition shooting, but I can see it being very interesting. Is it all about putting the round on the exact target specified by that particular event? Is it then measured as something like "closest to the pin"?
  11. Excellent ! Exactly my thoughts, and its great to hear someone with 92FS exoerience with such praise.
  12. Sounds like ALOT of people REALLY like this gun ! My thoughts are, it MUST be good !!
  13. How much extra is the stainless Inox version? Also, if you don't mind, can you let me know where you got your Inox 92FS from? thanks for your input !
  14. I'm in the Summit, NJ area. Any recommendations to where I can buy the cheapest? I've already been to Ramsey Outdoor in Ramsey and Paramus, and I've also been to Effingers in Bound Brook. Both good stores, but their prices seem alittle high to me. Tryed the internet quote thing on NJGF, and some came back a bit cheaper. Overall, any recommendations?
  15. I've shot at ranges several times and am not new to handguns. I agree there are alot of pluses to shooting a .22 cal, but with all that said, I still want a Beretta 92FS because its alot "badder" and not such a little gun. Again, a .22 cal would be next in the chamber, of course after the Beretta !
  16. Great point, thanks for the suggestion ...I'll do that !
  17. I have considered a .22 cal, and even love the Browning Buckmark. I kind of feel that I'll regret getting "only" a .22, and therefore am moving it up right away to the relatively inexpensive (ammo) 9 mm. I agree, a .22 cal is great for the range, but for the more "fun" factor, I decided on getting a 9 mm. A Buckmark or Ruger Mk III will probably be my second range shooter, and something I can more economically run a few more rounds thru.
  18. No, I have not shot it yet. My thoughts are with all the positive comments, how wrong can I go, even at all? I did go to a few stores already to handle, and it felt REAL nice in my hand.
  19. Hi All - Just joined NJGF, and I have to tell you that this is a wonderful resource with some VERY knowledgable forum members. So, let me begin with a thank you for all the sharing going on here ! I'm currently waiting for my FID and handgun purchase permit to be approved, now just over 1 month. Hopefully, it comes soon. In the meantime, I've had the opportunity to look for the gun that'll fit my needs. I will be using my new handgun for the sole purpose of Range shooting. No interest for home defense, but who knows maybe one day I'll be happy I have it. :-) Right now I'm leaning heavily towards purchasing a Beretta 92FS, which to me, is absolutely stunningly beautiful, full-framed (for my larger hands), has a 5 inch barrel (for accuracy at the range), plus of course the military heritage and reliability. I would LOVE to hear everybody's opinion and thoughts, and also welcome opinions on other makes/models which you feel will give the Beretta a run for its money and/or exceed it? Let me hear YOU !! thanks, DblEGT
