  1. Is that official? I thought there was a possibility of reconsideration like the Duck Dynasty situation.
  2. For home defense you're probably going to want good JHP's like Gold Dots or Rangers. I would definitely choose something, practice with it and stick with it. For casual target practice, I'll use just about any grain FMJ rounds. I seem to adjust pretty quickly and I'm not such a dead-eye that a heavier/lighter projectile is going to make much difference. If you're practicing for some sort of competitive use, it will make a difference but you'll probably want to start reloading yourself if you're getting serious about it.
  3. I'd rather wait 3 months than give a nickel to Lucky Gunner.
  4. I'd go with this instead: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/2787
  5. Convenience costs money. Only you can say if it was worth it.
  6. I go to work. Then I pay my bills. That usually gets my head right.
  7. Yeah, I know it's tough with so little info. Let's assume 90% or better condition since I'm not interested if it is any worse. Not sure how realistic prices are on Gunbroker. I don't really need another revolver, but if it's a clean, blued snubby I'm not sure I can say no.
  8. A friend of a friend has an inherited 19-3 and wants to sell. I don't have any details at this point as this guy is not into guns at all. Don't know if it's blued or nickel, barrel length, vintage, etc. All he could tell me is it has wood grips. Planning to see it tomorrow when all questions will be answered. Just wanted to get an idea on a fair price. Don't want to steal it, but I do want a good deal. Any input would be helpful.
  9. My plan is to exit this stinking hole in the next 2 years. It has little to do with 2A issues, I'm just tired of it all. The issues you noted as well as the materialism and rapid erosion of the values I care about. I've lived here my whole life and it simply is not the place I grew up in. Overall, the people are becoming ruder, pushier and more self-absorbed by the day. There are still good people here, but they have become more the exception than the rule. Enjoy the beautiful state of Colorado. It's on my list, but career will probably send me to the Carolinas.
  10. All that and more. Most people are not one-issue voters. Plenty of gun owners put other things above 2A rights when they go to the polls. If they even go. We must recognize that many gun owners are not gun enthusiasts. They don't understand how the 2A applies to them or simply don't care as long as they get to do the specific thing they want. These should be the easy ones to convert, but every election we see how far off we are from the mark. I do not count someone as an ally just because he happens to own a gun or two.
  11. Today it's an "invitation" and tomorrow it will be a boycott. I hope the typically flaky corporate PR people have learned from the past and see that entertaining such fringe groups is never good business.
  12. There was a time when that could be said about many products. Would be nice if we could keep what we still have.
  13. We never could. The Supreme Court is no less political than any other government institution.
  14. Why wouldn't he be? He's in his early sixties.
  15. I think I would rather pay the shipping. After gas and tolls, it's probably close to a wash anyway.
  16. You're over thinking this. A straw purchase occurs when someone buys a gun to sell/give to someone who cannot legally take possession of one. As long as your buyer has all paperwork in order you are fine.
  17. While I agree that these two peckerheads are trying too hard for attention, they broke no laws. They are gun enthusiasts. I'm not going to fall for the "divide and conquer" strategy that our enemies would like. It's already done plenty of damage by convincing many hunters that 2A issues apply to the other guys. The NRA almost fell for it, but fortunately the organization came to its senses. It sounds sensible to make compromises until you look at history. There is no way to meet in the middle with these fanatics. Many of them may mean well, but when good intentions interfere with my rights that makes them the enemy. Period. See this for what it is. Another attempt to vilify guns and gun owners. Another chunk from our flesh. Another way to convince people that guns are to be afraid of, no matter whose hands they are in. Every single time the gun community has agreed to some sensible compromise, it was never enough. It will never be enough for our enemies. We had already accepted 15 round mag limits in NJ. Now we're looking at 10. Does anyone think it will stop there? Bite by bite, our rights will continue to be infringed. I will never support any kind of "common sense" gun restrictions. I will not give strength to my enemies cause by adding my voice to anything they support. So, while I believe that Chipotle is within their rights to discourage or even prohibit law-abiding citizens from carrying guns into their establishments, I can't just give them a pass because of their private property rights. Their actions give aid to my enemy, an enemy that will not stop until I am completely disarmed. Even their "request" emboldens the antis and encourages them to continue their crusade. There was no need for it. It was the typical cowardly corporate reflex and I, for one am sick of it.
  18. The whole damn thing is North. South doesn't start until VA. Anything else is just denial.
  19. I look at it like life insurance. I never want to use either one. If that BOB sits in the closet unused for the next 40 years it is absolutely the best outcome I could hope for.
  20. This is not the only scenario. When I was a kid of maybe 19, some rich peckerhead drove his racing bicycle through a red light into my car. He then sued me for 7 figures despite the fact that he had no permanent injuries and claimed to have no recollection of the accident. I'll never forget when I found out his bicycle cost twice what my car did and he thought he was going to get a million bucks from my broke ass. Thankfully, several witnesses waited at the scene for the police to arrive and confirmed my version of events 100%. I know that each of these people were inconvenienced by the process but they all participated as required. I hope they were compensated by my insurance company, but I don't really know. I do know that as much as I would have liked to, I was in no position to pay them and in fact it would probably have been viewed as witness tampering if I did. I can't say how much it meant to me that these good people did what was right to prevent wrong from carrying the day. I have since been involved in two situations where I was a witness. I happily participated because I wanted to make sure that right triumphed. I would do it 100 times more. Whatever you do, don't lie about having no recollection to avoid the inconvenience. It's not always some greedy plaintiff with a frivolous lawsuit who needs you in his corner. Yes, it sucks to incur a financial loss. Sometimes doing the right thing comes with a cost.
  21. I'll be there tomorrow, so say hello. I've got a giant bald head and will be wearing a grey fleece pullover. Or a speedo. Depends on the weather.
  22. The kind of disaster I am hoping to be prepared for could include care being unavailable or in very limited supply. I've waited for hours at the ER with an open wound on an average Tuesday night. It is quite conceivable to be on your own for days or longer depending on the severity of the disaster. This is one area I don't believe you can be over-prepared for. Even if you don't need the bulk of what you have, others may.
  23. In the short term following a disaster, supplies may be temporarily exhausted. It could well be easier to find someone with the necessary skills than the necessary supplies. It's great to know how to use these things, but lack of expertise won't sway me from having the supplies I think I may need. If I'm lucky enough not to need them, I'm sure a hospital or field triage center could make good use of them.
