  1. They've got a $6.99 staple gun that comes with staples.. Thinking of picking that up for range use. Hopefully its decent enough for attaching paper to cardboard :-)
  2. Had a delicious Brooklyn Lager on tap in Brooklyn a week or two ago. I was also seeing my fav band that night, so that was an extra special ($8!) brew.
  3. Two thumbs down..thought this could have had potential, usually discovery's stuff is pretty good. ::cancelling series from dvr::
  4. I picked this same one up a few months ago, love it! An absolute blast to shoot... I was even able to get my gf to enjoy shooting it. She hit bullseye at 15yds, stock sights!
  5. Good point on going to the police station if being followed. This is great advice for anyone, not just someone coming from the range. It seems like common sense, but may not be obvious when in a scary situation. Will mention this to my gf...
  6. Excellent video! Should be a requirement that this is watched with every handgun purchase!
  7. If anyone is looking to go half on a case, pm me!
  8. I feel your pain, keith. I also live in union county and shooting outdoors seems like an impossible dream. Heck, its even tough to get to indoor ranges with all the travel required :-(
  9. I could have missed this, but does anyone know rates for non-members? Any rentals here?
  10. This is probably a silly question... I ask because I'm a new shooter and this may be a common courtesy due to the transportation laws. I'm planning on heading south to shore shot this weekend to shoot, but also wanted to do some other things while in the area, visit family, shop, etc. Does anyone know if public ranges will hold the gun for a few hours? Thanks
  11. Joejaxx, it was $595 before NICS and tax. I felt that was a fair price for a NJ shop. Could I have gotten it online cheaper? Probably... but with anything else, the personalized service you get in a small shop is often worth the premium.
  12. I just watched a YouTube demonstration of this... WOW! I NEED THAT! Little pricey for a piece of plastic, but probably worth it. Is it correct for me to have the mags fully loaded to ease in the break-in or could that have some adverse affect? And if anyone knows anything about getting a higher capacity mag, I'd be interested in hearing about that too... Thanks!
  13. Thanks guys! Something I noticed was the mags are really tough to load. I have to use the speedloader to get more than a few rounds in. Is there a break-in period to loosen up the springs?
  14. Hey folks, Yesterday was a good day. After years of wanting to become a gun owner, it finally happened. I know you guys love pics, while they are nothin special - I'm happy to share it with you all. This pupppy came from the highly recommended Shore Shot. My plan was to get my hands on a few of the suggested "first timer" 9mm's and hopefully be able to walk out with something. I shot the Glock 19 and the Springfield XD9. I wanted to try the Sig P226, but it was busy there with a few groups and that one was out on the range - I couldn't wait anymore, I HAD to have the Glock. I was working with Phil, who was super the whole time. He took out a G19 3rd gen and I spent a few minutes handling it. I knew I shot it pretty well, but I didn't want to be too quick to decide (even though I only shot two guns to begin with..) I asked Phil how it looked in my hands and he didn't seem 100% on the fit. Keep in mind I have quite large hands. He took the G17 out to compare and I instantly felt more comfortable, it fit like a glove. Unfortunately, the rental G17 was being used. Part of me said to wait it out and try the gun before I buy, but Phil assured me that it would be very similar to the G19 and at this point we were just trying to get the fit right. Ok, I'm sold... G17 it is... Wasnt thrilled to find out about the 10 round mags. On the plus side, it came with 3 mags, while the G19 only had 2. I should have asked, but I thought in my head "oh, there's gotta be a 15 rd mag for this gun somewhere, I'll just get it later if its that important to me". I think I may have been wrong, based on some Google'ing I did today. Oh well. I also wanted to get a box of ammo to take home. Being that this gun is primarily for HD and just having fun at the range, what good would it be without ammo? Based on my "homework", I knew hollow points were the way to go for HD rounds. There wasnt much of a selection in 9mm hollow points, as a matter of fact I think I got the last box. Admittedly, I dont knot much about ammo, but after doing some research after buying I think I regret getting this box. From what I gathered, this is a slow round and not the best choice for HD. Some feedback on that would be great. For HD, I want the best of breed. If this isnt it, I'll just shoot it at the range and forget about it. Long story short, I'm overall very happy with how everything went down and what I took home. I spent hours with it in my living room racking it, cleaning it, dry firing... all that good stuff that a newbie would be dying to do. I cant wait to fire it, and am very proud to finally be a gun owner. Thanks Ryan
  15. thanks for the kind welcome, guys. Thanks for the advice, Harry. Awesome news that there's a NJGF discount! I see that the range has "members only" hours Saturday from 8am-10am, and then it's public after. Any idea if I'd be able to show up during those members only hours and get shown some guns? I dont expect them to let me shoot during members hours, but the earlier the better for me. it's a beautiful thing, isnt it!? I cant IMAGINE waiting months, I would have died of impatience!
  16. Hey guys, I've been mostly lurking on this forum for a while, and figured it was finally time to post an official intro. Right off the bat I must say this forum is an excellent resource, and I'm super thankful to all the contributers for helping me learn so much in a short time. Hats off to you guys. I'm glowing a bit today as I picked up my first FID and Pistol Permit. Only 13 days, I cant believe it! The plan is to race over to Shore Shot this Saturday and try a few of the popular 9mm's and hopefully make a purchase. I've only gone shooting once, but I definitely caught the bug. My only experience so far has been the First Steps - Gun For Hire class which I took a few weeks ago. I'm no pro, but I at least feel like I can safely handle a pistol now. Cant wait for Saturday and hopefully take a new family member home! I'm going into it with bias towards the Glock 19 (the gun I learned on at Gun For Hire) Thanks for listening, Ryan
  17. 1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID). Initial FID and 1 Pistol Permit 2. Police Department where you applied. Westfield 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. Robin 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. 13 days! 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). Nothing additional. 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc.). Overall a very positive, easy process. Robin and anyone else I dealt with was super pleasant. References received letters quickly. I wasn't crazy about my employer receiving a letter, but knew it was a possibility. Cash was accepted on day of pickup. Great experience, A+ for the Westfield PD.
