Quick NJ technicality question. Say one has an Other AR that meets the legal requirements, along with a standard AR (16") that is NJ compliant. I have read that one cannot have the components to build an AWB weapon (or SBR) in their possession. Technically though, the above individual is in possession, as he can just switch the uppers and lowers, and would then have 2 non-compliant rifles. Does the "possession of parts/components" only refer to those that are not already part of another complete weapon?

Since I couldn't make the Carbine I class, Joe has transferred my class payment to Pistol II instead. Anyone else signed up for this?

There is no reliable 1911 magazine that is see through. Stick with proven mags made from stainless steel such as Wilson Combat or CMC.

Glock, and any gun = dangerous. Because as HE said, there is inherent danger in its capabilities. Just like motorcycles, skydiving, etc. Serpa = unsafe. Qualities that enhance the dangerous capabilities of holster and the drawstroke. Characteristics that do not exist with other holsters. The real question is, why in the world does anyone even consider these holsters anymore? We can continue to have the debate of how safe the holster is to use (even though it's not), but nothing changes the fact that it's still a POS!

It was actually gifted to me by my uncle, who lives in Japan and collects those swords. All I know is that it's a tanto style sword, and that it's older than any of us here, haha. The next time I see him, I'm going to ask him to translate what's written on the permit that is in the left of the picture (in Japan, all swords must have a permit accompanying them).

Why does anyone care what OEM sight options Glock offers? None of them are good compared to the plethora of aftermarket choices available today. Also, 3 dots are probably the worst set up when it comes to acquisition speed and alignment.

Ray, you sound like a broken record. After being given multiple examples of how Colt is still relevant, you continue to ignore those facts and spew the same stuff. Comparing Colt to S&W is apples to oranges. They focus on different types of products, and usually for the gun types they both make (like ARs), Colt does it better! What you are doing is the equivalent of someone saying Gibson USA (guitar company) is irrelevant today, because they continue to still make the same products they have made for decades. Have they come out with any earth shattering game changing in recent years? Not really, but they continue to make the same few models that are adored by guitarists, with only minor incremental changes that take advantage of modern technology. Other companies make a wide variety of guitars, including Les Paul copies. However, Gibson still makes the original and best Les Paul.

And Colt makes better ARs and semi-autos than S&W. Let's face it...S&W hasn't exactly shined over the years when it comes to semi-auto pistols.

Ray, HE just gave you concrete evidence of how they have NOT forgotten about the civilian market, with examples such as mid-length rifles, .38s. Not to mention the different flavors of 1911s, which includes THE best base 1911 you can buy today. Yet you continue to ramble on about how they have forgotten the civilian market. Where exactly is the disconnect with you?

HE summed it up perfectly. Sometimes a company's success isn't measured by coming up with a new flavor of the month on a regular basis, but by continuing to do what they are good at. And there's nothing wrong with putting an emphasis on military weapons. They exist to make money after all. And yes you get what you pay for with 1911s. The reality is, if you want a modern 1911 made with top quality parts that are fitted properly, expect to oh well over $2K for it. $1K pretty much just gets you a quality base gun, or maybe a used older quality gun.

You are making this way too easy. In the last 20 years? The series 70 small letter was brought back, and is arguably THE best production base pistol to build a custom 1911 on. The M45 and rail gun, and the Combat series guns. And reintroducing the Delta Elite. You do realize that the 1911 is over 100 years old and there are only so many ways you can reinvent the wheel right? Not everyone wants a 1911 decked out with crappy parts made to look fancy. Also, Colt still makes some of the best ARs when it comes to quality. And yes, while not every agency has their ducks in a row when it comes to equipment, here's a shocker for you. Some actually do run serious tests on various guns before selecting one. After that, data is still being collected based on field performance. In case you didn't get the memo, that's what track records are made of.

Uhh, Colt has several 1911 models to choose from, as well as AR's. all available to civilians. Sorry, but yet again, you are incorrect. Also, maybe you judge quality by civilian market sales but some others go by the professional market. Why is it that very few government agencies or professional shooters/trainers shoot the xD? Taurus has sold their share of guns. Doesn't mean they are quality.

Colt 1911 series 70 repro and Springfield Armory mil-spec or Range Officer are the top choices for under $1K. Also, I didn't mention the $1K budget first...you did.

RIA may or may not go bang. The problem is, it's not a brand that has a solid track record. And none of the top 1911 pistolsmiths use them as base guns for their builds. Colt, Springfield, Wilson Combat, etc have been adopted, or at least considered for adoption by government agencies. Furthermore, their pistols and/or parts are regularly used for custom builds. This is due to a proven standard of quality. With pistols like that available, why bother with 1911s like RIA?

First, you said Glocks are chosen by noobs who don't know what they are looking for. Complete nonsense. Glocks are chosen by many pros who absolutely know what features are desirable in a defensive use pistol. Is it perfect? No, but neither is any other pistol. Glocks are probably the easiest pistol to tailor to your needs though. Second, the comparison to Colt also makes no sense. If anything you are complimenting Glock. Colt still makes the best production level 1911, particularly for base guns that you can buy new for under $1000. Oh wait, I suppose you will say that Kimber and SIG make better 1911s. Also, what plethora of 9mm striker fired guns are there to choose from? I can count on less than 1 hand the striker fired 9mm guns that can hold a candle to the Glock 17/19 in terms of reliability, performance, size, and price.
