  1. I paid approx. $550 to ship a car to St. Louis this year. I found most of the shippers are actually consolidators and arrange the transport. If you can make contact with an owner operator directly you can save quite a bit.
  2. It has been a few years since I applied for a P2P so my memory may be off. I filled out the firearms purchase permit form today and left the reference section blank, thinking this was only done on during the initial application process. When I submitted, I was told to go back and fill in two references. Does the local PD actually send reference letters out each time you apply for a permit? I don't recall this being the case after the initial FID card application. The process can become onerous on the references.
  3. I have the following three receivers inherited from my late father that I would be interested in either selling and/or trading all together for a reasonable quality 1911. Drake SPR-4 Kenwood R-2000 Yaeso FRG 8800 Based on discussions with some enthusiasts, my thoughts on price are Drake ($350) Kenwood ($300) and Yaeso ($300). All are in very good condition. I am located in Livingston and if you are interested we can arrange a time for you to either come by with an antenna or perhaps take it home for a run through. I am just looking for a fair deal for both sides. I will try to post pictures Andy
  4. When you do the build, I would be appreciative if you can post the parts list and vendor(s). Thanks
  5. That is a beautiful AR. Can the upper and lower be purchased in that finish or do they need to be sent out for coating?
  6. PM Send on a recommendation
  7. There is a small engine repair shop / dealer in Boonton, can see it from the south bound lane of 287. I believe they carry some of the popular brands. I assume they deliver and very close to Wayne. I had my Troy-bilt repaired there many years ago. I dont recall any issues in dealing with them.
  8. I am not questioning the validity or lack of validity of this organization. Other than their annoying commercials, I know nothing about it. I am just looking to understand why you needed to add the adjectives "rich" and "luxury" to your description of the organization's purpose.
  9. Just out of curiosity, why do you interpret "provides religious based services to Jewish children" to your above comment?
  10. Thanks guys, I will do my best to make it. Is it rain or shine?
  11. Bob and Dave, thanks for reply. At this point I am looking to gain a basic proficiency with the ultimate goal of confident home defense. My short term objective is to learn correct grip, trigger control and reloading technique. I am finding the 12+ lb double action pull to be a whole different experience compared to my Beretta 92. And from what I have been reading, all training should focus exclusively in double action mode. My 57 year old eyes are past the point of competition! Thanks again Andy
  12. Can anyone recommend a 1/2 day or full day revolver training course (new to revolvers but somewhat experienced with semi-autos) in the NNJ area? Alternatively, a reasonably priced training instructor for individual lessons?
  13. Picked up a S&W model 66 today from Tom. He was a pleasure to deal with from the initial contact to the delivery. Very responsive, knowledgeable and great prices. Can't ask for more. I highly recommend him.
  14. Sorry for delay. Paper is not in best of shape, but is definitive. I also posted the matching serial on the SVT 40. From what I understand, the Carcano listed on the paper was given away shortly after his discharge. I have separate capture papers listing a Mauser K98 and Steyer 6.5MM, both of which I do have. Perhaps when the weather warms up in the spring, if we can snag some non corrosive ammo, we can arrange a meet up at an outdoor range. Shooting these beasts indoors is not pleasant (ask me how I know)... If these pictures are difficult to see, I would welcome some instructions on how to post bigger pictures or send the jpg directly. Andy

Carcano, thank you again. I located the Universal Radio website and will contact them. Be on lookout for PM.

    Ham radio

Carcano, thank you for sharing your insight. Unfortunately, I do not have any documentation or packaging. I do know they power up. I will test each of them on the suggested frequencies. Any recommendation of online marketplaces to post them for sale?

    Ham radio

Hoping for some help from the Ham hobbyists - I have a Yaesu FRG-8800 receiver, a Kenwood R-2000 receiver and a Drake SPR-4 receiver I inherited from my father. I assume these are early / mid 1980's vintages. Assuming they are in good working order is there any market value to these, or are they completely obsolete? Thanks for our help.
  18. You are exactly right, there was no ammo to be had. It went unfired for decades. In the late 60s- early 70s he managed to find a package of 20 rounds. But when it was fired the brass was so brittle the rims blew off. So back in the closet it went until about three years ago when my 17 year old son took an interest, detail stripped it and changed the main spring. We ordered ammo, said a few Hail Marys and pulled the trigger. Fired and cycled like new.
  19. Thank you. I am just happy to have this great piece of history. Also have a K98 and Styer M95 with capture papers. The Mauser is all matching with exception of bolt. M95 is in "ok" condition.
  20. The Tula cartouche stamped on the stock is difficult to see in third picture.
  21. My late father brought back an all matching (with exception of mag) SVT 40 from the Normandy theatre. I would say it is 9/10. I was visiting my 88 year old uncle down in Lakewood yesterday and he handed me an envelope with the capture papers to the rifle. He found them cleaning out old files. Having possession of this piece of history with the personal background and established provenance is an honor beyond words. I remember as a kid a major treat was dad letting us hold the "Russian Rifle". And then like all of his generation, it went back in the closet next to his old Eisenhower Jacket with his sargent stripes, without fanfare. Fortunately my adult children were as excited to hear of the find as I was. Great, proud family history
