  1. I got my new camera today, had to take some test shots... and then take some photos.
  2. When I picked up my FID the other day, I asked the LEO who gave me my card about using/borrowing/transporting someone else's firearm. His reply was that as long as you both have FID cards and the gun was purchased legally, that it was completely legal to do so.
  3. That's what I was thinking too, thanks. I ran into the detective handling the firearms stuff the following afternoon at a store in town, and he told me that my paperwork had already been sent out that morning. From what I've heard from others my town is quite fast with FID and PP times. The detective said the thing that takes the longest is the mental health check which they don't have control over. It seems like that is the real holdup with the FID process in NJ.
  4. I haven't called them yet, now that things are moving again is there any reason to still call them?
  5. I was told the applications used to be good for 1 year from the date the state does the investigation and dates it. It was recently changed to 30 days.
  6. you guys are going to LOVE this (and by love I mean hate).... So today I came home and listened to my answering machine, "Hello Justin, this is xxxxxxxxxx from Franklin Lakes Police Department. I wanted to call to let you know we have been given the authority to sign FID cards again." I heard this and immediately grabbed my keys and wallet to go pick it up. I then heard "unfortunately, due to the amount of time that has passed your application has expired. You will need to submit a new application and have another background check done. Please give me a call if you have any questions." I was PISSED. After waiting for over 5 months for my card I now have to start over and pay the state to do another background check. They need to do everything - mental health check, references, background check, etc. AAHHHHHHH!!!!
  7. I got in touch with my mayor since the PD didn't seem to be making much effort to get things sorted out. I pointed to the sections of NJ law where it explains the FID signing process and asked why the PD in my town were not following that. He gave me the same story about the Attorney General needing to let them know what to do. I just don't understand why it has taken since the beginning of February to get to this point of not knowing. Does it really take that long for the AG to figure out what my town is supposed to do? Even when it says in the law the highest ranking officer is supposed to sign? or do you think my PD took their sweet time in looking for an answer in the first place? I hate to come across as over anxious, but I'm quite busy for most of the year and this year I'm off all of July and would REALLY like to get some shooting/range time in while I'm able to.
  8. I must admit that it's mostly shyness, I really dislike confronting authority. I'm 22, and these guys are more than twice my age. I'd have no problem emailing the department, but face to face confrontation is difficult for me. (yes, online social networking and the age of convenient internet based communication has affected my communication skills in a negative way)
  9. I spoke with both Cook and Osenbruck, they do seem like really cool guys and very helpful. They seemed to be pretty hands off with this situation though and it sounded like it wasn't really in their hands at this point. Sounded like they are sitting back and waiting for someone to tell them what to do. Did you by any chance stop in and ask what's going on? any update?
  10. Wow! Thanks for all the quick responses! I will be contacting the NJ FIU with this issue. I don't want to be the gun purchaser trying to explain laws to the police (they may think I'm a little too anxious), hopefully the FIU will be able to fill them in on what they're missing. They 'haven't been able' to sign FID cards since February 1.
  11. First time posting, I hope this is in the right section. I know there are similar threads out there, but couldn't find any real answers so I wanted to try posting directly. I applied January 14 of this year for my FID and PP, it's now June 6. I went to the station to check the status and they told me they had the card sitting there but there was no one to sign it since there was no real chief. I guess the guy acting as chief doesn't have the authority to sign the FID cards or something. Didn't make sense to me, but that's what they tell me. They said it's at the AG right now and the AG is supposed to figure out who is supposed to sign it in the absence of a chief. My question is this.... is there anything I can do to help the process? Write to the state or AG or anything to make them hurry things up? I'm at almost 5 months and it's getting a bit frustrating!
