  1. It is mostly the grip, and a slightly different bolt release. each model of the MK II or 22/45 comes with different sights. you probably want to focus on the sight style as much as anything as that is the real different. I have a MK III Hunter (discontinued, with classic rosewood grips) with the High Viz optical front sight. I would probably go with the target sights like on the Target or Competition models.
  2. I totally agree, I end up shooting my MK III at least as much as their vault-mates in 9mm or .45ACP. It makes me focus on my skills, breathing, follow-through, etc. There is something about the feedback of hitting little holes at 30' or 50' in an indoor range in a hopefully very tight group that you just can't get with the big guys even on a good day. After shooting my .22, the 9mm seems to shoot better too :-) A blowback SR22 or other tactical .22 is not likely to be nearly as accurate and in my limited shooting do not replicate the feel of the full-size gun enough to count as exact practice. As an aside, I find my MK III to be a very good intro gun for newbies I take to the range. They find it cool (all stainless and classic Luger lines), beautiful and very easy to shoot and not intimidating. Once they master the basics there, I can let them shoot a bigger boom if they desire and show sufficient comfort level. BTW, a MK III or 22/45 are good practice guns for 1911 at one leve since they are very short/light triggers similar to the 1911 and weigh about as much as a full size 1911 unless you buy the 22/46 Lite. I don't own a Buckmark, but most of what I said should apply.
  3. I may need to make a trip. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk 2
  4. Websters defines Politics (among numerous definitions) 3.a.) political affairs or business; especially : competition between competing interest groups or individuals for power and leadership (as in a government) 5.a.) the total complex of relations between people living in society I own and enjoy guns, and my family home-schooled for 17 years. In both cases, my decision to become involved in the activity was not political, but once immersed in exercising that decision, the social and political ramifications are clear. It political because you make a decision that has social, economic and legal consequences and will definitely not be liked by some/many of your fellow citizens. In other words, you may not desire it be political, but that decision is not your own it is society's. If you live in NJ, it is an act of political defiance, in TX it is an act of joining with the majority. In both cases it is political.
  5. did you see the prices on the 91/30s?
  6. Price sounds right (we go to the Ewing location). Payment in advance is not something I have had to do, but not implausible.
  7. S&W MP15-22 is a great gun. they are not cheap, but they are very nice and solid/faithful AR pattern. The base model is a great plinker. I have shot the Ruger SR-22 and like it, but it uses the Ruger 10/22 style magazines so a bit off the pattern. fun, fast plinking can be done just as well with a 10/22 for half the price though. you can always trick it out later!
  8. BTW, they have Remington Thunderbolt .22LR in stock as well today 23.99 per 500 limit one box. The M22 is definitely better ammo though.
  9. it often takes an hour or more for the order to show up at Cabelas site. it is not the most modern order system. In previous orders during the panic, I have seen it take a whole day (even for clothing orders at Cabelas!). Once ordering .30-06 ammo, it did fail though, luckily that stuff is not flying off the shelves as fast .22LR or 9mm and I was able re-do the order the next day.
  10. I had the opportunity to shot a Mosin at EFGA on Saturday and I have to say I feel in love with the kick! Milsurp is starting to seep into my veins. I would be interested in a single Mosin if you still open to additions or if one of you want to resell one of your 5.
  11. pull back is horrible unless you use a cocking device/system.There are numerous types of devices, the simplest is something like below which uses a simple single pulley system to reduce effort in half Remember high-school physics? ha!. It still requires non-trivial strength though. My (then) 11 year-old could not cock my crossbow with the pulley, but by the time he was 13 (and 6" taller) he was able to do it. http://www.bowviper.com/images/Product/medium/455.jpg

    Handgun for wife

My wife bought a Ruger SR9 as her first pistol. She had been shooting casually for a couple years, but wanted her own pistol. New they can be a bit hard to rack the slide, but after about 300 rounds and storing the slide locked back to soften the spring for 10 days, it is pretty easy to slide. She shoots it very well, absorbs recoil pretty well. She looked hard at a Berreta PX4 Storm, loved about 85% of it, but in the end was turned off by the DA/SA action. She looked hard at a Glock 19 Gen 4 too, but in the end felt recoil was a bit too "sharp". She likes striker or SA style triggers. Lock, stock and barrel, NICS, taxes, and a box of ammo, etc. it was $520. Of course she loves full-size 1911's too! A full-size stainless frame .45 1911 has less felt-recoil for her! Downside, heavy after 50-75 rounds at the range (and price!)
  13. There are annual cicadas that show up in late summer every year. they are a different species than the 17 year locusts.
  14. I seriously doubt that you use Microsoft Office on them. It would make a mess, but as far as recipes, there is a bounty on the internet! here is the first one that Google brought back :-) http://cicadainvasion.blogspot.com/2011/04/if-you-cant-beat-em-eat-em-cicada.html
  15. here are two links that describe the way locusts are cycling, they have 13 and 17 year cycles AND there multiple broods that arrive on their own schedules. Brood II is the one arriving in NJ this year. http://www.cicadamania.com/where.html http://www.cicadamania.com/pictures/main.php?g2_itemId=3618
  16. Stick with the good disposable in-ear ones. just buy a couple samples of one type and make sure they fit. Once you do that, buy them in bulk from Amazon or Home Depot. I have tried several permanent ear plugs and frankly none of them work as well as the 32dB NRR orange plugs from Home Depot tool section. An an entire box of several hundred plugs are about the same as two pairs of permanent ones.
  17. I have a Savage Mark II that would look very nice with a set of Tech Sights. Has anyone bought a set for the Savage? I didn't go the 10/22 route, but instead have 2 bolt actions, a lovely Marlin 980s (before quality fell apart under new ownership and they moved the factory) and a lefty Savage Mark II for the left eye dominant member of my family. For Semi-auto, I have a S&W MP15-22 that i also enjoy a lot. For the cost though a 10/22 with GI/Battle style sights would more than suffice! I went bolt action as a basis because I take a lot of newbies, especially teens to the range for first time firearms experiences. A bolt action is easy, relatively safe and controllable and gets the kids understanding the full cycle of shooting. Once they are proficient, I let them spew a bunch of lead with the 15-22! If you only want/afford one .22 rifle you will definitely be very happy with any 10/22.
  18. Thanks, after reading the calendar more closely, I understand it now! I was projecting sunday's closures back to Saturday too. I would also love to watch the IDPA on Sunday, but other plans interfere. IDPA is something I have thought would be a great thing to get involved in, but cost and time are not there right now. I'm focusing on rifles more right now with my son! (less rounds of too!)
  19. Hi, I am a new poster (but old userid in NJGF) and a new member to EFGA. My son and i were hoping to go to the range tomorrow, the 23rd to shoot center-fire rifle (a new to us M1 Garand). As I checked on the calendar, it looks like setup for the IDPA starts Saturday. Does that close the Rifle range on Saturday afternoon?
