  1. Look at Alien Gear holsters. Reasonably priced. Have spring steel sandwiched between leather layers. No sag there.
  2. Start close - 10 feet if you have to for sights that are REALLY off. Adjust sights to zero. Double the distance and repeat until you get to desired zeroing distance. Fastest way to zero.
  3. Never liked Federal ammo in any of my guns. The only ftf/fte I've experienced have been with Federal. Try CCI Blazer - great stuff. Watch Dunns (http://www.shopdunns.com/products/Ammunition/37/1//) for their case specials - $159 including shipping, no tax. You'll have it in 2 days. Only thing I use now in my 22's.
  4. I'd just like to give Seth and everyone at D&S Tactical in Bernardsville a big thumbs up. I did business with them for the first time a couple of days ago but Seth made me feel like I had been doing business with him for years. They are professional and knowledgeable and will give you their honest opinion. I'll be giving him more of my business in he future. If you're looking for a shop in the Route 287 / 78 triangle you should give D&S (www.njffl.com) a try. They don't really carry stock, but if you know what you want they can get it in a day or two. Their hours are by appointment but they are flexible.
  5. Went to a family farm in PA this weekend and had a little display of our own on Saturday. I had my three sons and one of their friends along and we usually try to make some noise when we're there. Loud noises... Flashes of light... Fireworks... Our display started about 1500 when we took out some steel plates and started them ringing. My son's friend and my wife's cousin had never shot before so we started out easy with the .22 rifle and pistol. When I was sure everyone was safe and confident in handling the weapons we moved up a little to the Sig 220. It was the first time my 12 year old had fired a .45 and he didn't know what to expect. I showed him a stable stance and told him to hold on tight. He didn't know what to expect, but after the first shot he did great. I don't think I'll have to worry about him. One thing I can say is that we were definitely the loudest in the immediate area. After about 4 hours of warming up with the daytime noisemakers we made a trip to what I like to call the Home Depot of Fireworks to stock up for our night display. All the guys at the farm get their own supply, and sometimes it's some pretty big stuff. We usually set off our display near the house so everyone can sit in chairs, relax and watch the show. Due to some near misses in the past, we had a new rule this year - don't burn down the barn (after all, the walls were just straightened). So we had to move to the top of the hill. While we were moving the neighbors were setting off some of their own displays. Amateurs. Top of the hill worked great. Everyone took turns setting off their stuff saving the largest or loudest for the finale. The slight breeze cleared the smoke almost as fast as we could create more. Since we were on one of the highest hill in the area the neighbors got a good show. I'm sure we rattled more than a few windows. Good times for all. As Mel Brooks once said, 'It's good to be King.' Have a safe Fourth and make some noise of your own.
  6. I was searching the web for reviews on a gun I'm interested in, as well as local ranges. I found this site. This seems to be a good community and everyone seems to be pretty decent, so I think I'll stay for a while. I'm from Basking Ridge and have been in this game far longer than I really want to think about. I took about 20 years off because of the kids. Now that they're older and I'm getting some of my free time back, I decided to get back to something I really enjoy - shooting. Although I still have one rifle (10/22) for fun, I prefer pistols. I have a preference for both ends of the spectrum - .45 and .22. See you around the forums...
