  1. Red Wings Sporting Clays is CLOSED for the "season". Camping season that is! They'll open back up again in September when the kids go back to school. Their main business is operation of the huge camp ground that the family owns. Sporting Clays are available September-May. Nothing compares to Lehigh. Red Wing is nice, is near Smithville (great shopping), and at least half of the course is Lincoln Traps that are hand-cocked by a Trap Boy. All of the presentations go away from you or to the side. None come towards you at this point. Course is very challenging & fun. My friends & I have shot there. The place is primarily open on weekends, and week days are by appointment only, so call ahead to reserve an electric cart. More remote than Lehigh. Still worth the trip, and you can get lunch in Smithville. We ate lunch at the Smithville Inn and had a bottle of wine. Nice day trip. Dave
  2. That's how you develop good muscle-memory. But then, there's a reason guys like JJ Racazza use 1911 & 2011 style autos.
  3. The Black Powder League also shot in the pouring rain, as we set-up (3) 10'x10' pop-ups to accommodate all of the shooters. I placed second in Pistol, having shot my reproduction Colt Walker. My son Andy won the Rifle Match, so I'm a very proud Dad! A good time was had by all! We shoot again in two weeks, and it's a Qualification Match for both Pistol & Rifle. So that means that we shoot for ranking in the Winchester/NRA Qualification Program. Stay tuned for more details! Dave
  4. Good for a revolver shooter too, only you really don't "need" the snap caps. Great for detecting the dreaded flinch that puts rounds low in the paper. Safe-action & DA pistols are notorious for creating this malady. If shooters would just "start" their shooting "careers" with a REVO on single action, they'd hit what they're aiming at most of the time. Knowing when the shot will fire isn't such a bad thing. I think that "learning" how not to shake during the squeeze, and maintaining follow-through has helped me in my 40+ years of shooting hand guns. I don't like "surprises", especially with a 2# smooth as a baby's a$$ trigger pull. Just one opinion, and no doubt worth every penny you spent to get it, LOL! Dave
  5. Welcome! Hope you can stick around a while. Enjoy this place! Dave
  6. I'd be glad to show you the ropes, so to speak! Just PM me for info about the three ranges that I shoot black at......... Dave
  7. Just checked the gun out. Seems the trigger can be worked-down to 5.5 pounds by a H-K Armorer. That would be a great start. Then lots of dry-fire practice so you get muscle memory with the trigger job. Then several boxes of ammo later, depending upon your level of experience to begin with. Good luck with the project.
  8. Cameron, That's what I was always lead to believe. That the Perp was unable to sue you for taking his ability to make a living (rob you) away freely. On the same principle as the "Good Sumaritan" rule that means if you crack a rib giving cpr (and you're a lay-person, trained by your local Red Cross), the victim can't sue you. I think that the true Castle Doctrines allow deadly force without retreat. All the Perp has to do is to break-in, and he's as good as toast.....but not here in NJ Comrade! Dave
  9. Couldn't have said it better! Nick, give him a hug from all of us, O-K Dad! And God Speed for the trip home.
  10. Yes, and Shotgun League too! So you have no less than (3) great opportunities for fun! Sometimes Range (6) is still open and sometimes we need it for parking & a Steel Stage. Depends... Dave
  11. Once again, the Old Bridge Rifle & Pistol Club will be holding it's semi-annual Black Powder Novelty Shoot for both Pistols & Rifles! Starts at 9:00 AM Sharp THIS SUNDAY in Pit #7, which is the 100 yard Range on the far right as you come down the range road. Me & my son will be participating along with the rest of the usual suspects. You can come & shoot for only $20.00 or just watch for free! Hope to see some of the Forum Guys interested in getting some soot on their faces to show-up! We're a friendly bunch and we'd love to show you some fine hospitality! Dave
  12. WTF, when the hell did this happen??
  13. Lee Van Cleef is 100% CORRECT! That's why I asked where the gun was. If it's in her name, she's responsible for it, not your Dad. If there aren't any funky "orders of protection" or anything else that would make either of them a "prohibited person", then she just drives over to the house and picks it up herself. And then transports it in the trunk, where she can't get to it. If there is anything different or being left-out, then consult an attorney. Nothing that anybody says here is hard wired. In the State Police blue firearms pamphlet it states that the County Prosecutors have final say and that the laws are "open to interpretation". Remember the stink with the AG's letter involving magazines?? this is NJ after-all! Dave
  14. You never mentioned WHERE the gun is now, and whether or not it's "booked-in" at a FFL. If it's booked-in, she may have to go through the paperwork process to get it back. If it was being repaired at a Gunsmith's place of business, she as the owner has to go get it. An "errand-boy" won't do in NJ.
  15. I don't want to ever go to a place that shoots rifles inside. Thanks for the heads-up!
  16. I've never been there, and it doesn't sound like I'm missing much. I wouldn't go to a place that shoots rifles indoors anyway. Just way TOO LOUD and 25 yards is a joke.

    STI guns?

Although I don't yet own one, I have shot several. Even the Spartan feels "tight" and shoots to point of aim at 25 yards and beyond! They have the nicest 1911 platform is the business right now, and like others have said, are Match sponsors at various disciplines. A gun that you can do almost anything with, out of the box. You get what you pay for and sometimes it's just nice to start with something that you can "grow" into. The 9mm is a great "trainer" for those that want to shoot a 1911 and don't want the expense of a .45 or the wimpiness of a .22 conversion. I don't own a single 9mm, since I shoot only 1911's (.40's & .45's), but if I ever buy a 9, it will be a Spartan or Edge.
  18. STI Spartan 1911 in 9mm. Around 6 beans, and a tack-driver out of the box! A great 1911 "trainer" that you can run on cheap ammo, THEN: Home defense .45 ACP 1911 IDPA .45 ACP so you can shoot with the big boys in CDP division USPSA .45 ACP L-10 division (all you need to switch from Single-Stack is some Wilson Combat 10-round mags, around $35.00 each) And you might be able to use the same holster & mag pouches for both the 9 & 45 too?? It all depends on which games you wanna play......... Dave
  19. Sounds to me like that's the right way to do it! You're both obeying the rule of NO cross-lane firing by switching ports and shooting only at one target on a frame. If you set-up more towards the middle of the range, you won't have a "Cone-of-Fire" issue with the left wall to the left of port #1 in the example you just gave. Try to use #3-6 on the left side and #7-10 on the right side to stay away from the walls to be even more vigilant, and thanks for caring. Dave
  20. For Static Steel you don't really need a holster. You stand in a 4' x 4' "box" alongside a low table where you have your extra mags. You can start at the "Low-Ready" position with the gun pointed at the ground at approx. a 45 degree angle. You have five steel plates. When you shoot the five, you're done with that "run" so you reload without crossing yourself, with your finger along the slide (not in the trigger guard). Then you do it 4 more times under the supervision and direction of the R-O. After you drop the last mag, unload and show clear to the R-O, you "bag" the gun in a bag (rug with zipper), or a hard plastic case of some sort to secure it. At that point the R-O calls the line "Clear". After brassing & painting, that's how you take the cased/bagged gun to the next stage. Rather a safe convenient way of being very safe and having the maximum amount of fun with minimal expense. No fancy equipment, belts, holsters, etc. I haven't shot the Pro-Am format of Knockdown Steel, so I don't know the SOP. In Pro-Am, you run & gun like USPSA and must knock-down as many plates as you can within a "Par" time. Either way, once you show-up, you'll want to try it! And some of the Gang here may be able to loan you equipment like extra mags or a holster or mag pouch to have some fun with for the day. The FUN starts when you SHOW UP. Worth taking a vacation day for IMHO cause Steel is contagious! Dave
  21. Now THAT's FUNNY! One shot and where's the dot?????
  22. No special equipment, just bring lots (5+) mags that you KNOW work well. A safe holster & a gun you're familiar with. And NO AMMO AT THE SAFE TABLE!
  23. A simple case of "the few spoil it for the many". Too bad, as it looks heavy-duty to last a while! Not for HP rifle though!
  24. Welcome! I'm a NOOB (to this forum) too, but the Gang here is Cool! Where's the Pie?? There's Pie?? Did I mention that I LIKE Pie?? LOL! Dave
  25. Cool beans! That Steel might be from the Top Gun Match on Saturday. Thanks for the heads-up. They might use it again on Sunday. If you're around, come check it out. It looked HEAVY to me this morning when I was there. I didn't touch it either!
