Howell, NJ took me 3 weeks for FID and 2 handgun permits and they lost my reference sheet on top of that. It would probably have been sooner than 3 weeks if I didn't call them to see how it was going. On the other hand a friend of mine put in for his FID and 2 handgun permits and it's been about 3 months now in the same town. It just depends on you as a person and your background I guess. Dunno

I got 2 handgun permits dated for April 5th 2011. I just bought a handgun a few days shy of the 3 months expiration date so that only one would really expire. I took the expired permit down to the clerks office at the police department and she just stamped it with 7/6/2011 next to the old date of 4/5/2011. It took all but a couple of minutes and now I have another 90 days to purchase my second hand gun
