  1. I've gone there before and rented a full auto colt 9mm SMG. It was a lot of fun, they just chain the thing to the bench and let you go at it. It must much better than renting machine guns in vegas where the wont even let you put the mag in the gun yourself or rack it. At targetmaster they just chain it to the bench, leave you with how ever many mags you bought and let you shoot on your own. It was a lot of fun! typical tough guy gunstore staff, but one of the guys was pretty friendly and I seem to recall a cute looking female working there as well.

  3. I read about salesmen and FFL's in the very sensitive trade of selling firearms to an largely confused and uninformed public and can't seem to fathom how they get away with not knowing the laws that govern their livelihood. In my business, if I run afoul of more that 2 rules, standards, and laws, I get shut down. As I recounted before, this is the same place where a revolver I was prepared to purchase was basically taken out of my hand and told to return only after my wife received her FID and PPL because I mentioned that I wanted something simple and reliable for OUR home defense. I know better now since joining NJGF and asking the questions but back then I was relying on a supposed professional for informed and accurate guidance...... Well apparently I am not the only potential customer this business has alienated and lied to. I've had a very similar situation occur in a different shop, being accused of a straw purchase when attempting to purchase a firearm that was to be used by more than one person in the home. Some gun store employees just take things a bit too far, power trip I suppose. I am sorry to hear what that guy did to you and your wife. Try Brick Armory or Shore Shot, I doubt either of those stores would have a problem with you purchasing a firearm for your home that may or may not be used by your wife for home defense. Well I am glad someone else can now back up my story. I simply cannot believe that somebody who is operating a retail firearms outlet in NJ has such little comprehension of our laws. All it takes is a quick google search, or better yet (since hes an old timer and may not be very internet saavy).. every gun shop should have a copy of Evan Nappen's NJ gun law book. I know shore shot has it, and it has a wealth of information regarding our "assault weapon" restrictions. The law really isn't that complicated, I am really surprised that the guy thought our mag limit was 10 rounds... what the hell is he doing selling guns with such little knowledge of our laws??? I mean that is a simple one, anyone working in a NJ gun shop should know that our limit is 15. That guy really has no place selling firearms in such a restrictive state if he isn't going to take a little time to research and learn our laws. And the way he accused me of being in violation of our law made me uncomfortable, especially since there was other customers in the store overhearing the conversation. Anyway, I'm never stepping foot in that shop again, I'd drive 3 hours away to a decent shop for a 2 dollar part before I gave him any of my business. Maybe my opinion would change if the guy took the time to become familiar with the items he is selling/choosing not to sell and didnt openly accuse law abiding customers of being criminals.
  4. As do I. I did not make up my story for entertainment value, I assure you that what I said is true and I'm stickin to it. I dont know if Joe is the individual I dealt with, but whoever it was told me that the firearm I am in possession of is illegal in this state when I know for sure that it is ban compliant and was purchased here legally from a reputable FFL. I forgot to mention, the guy also said to me "those are for pennsylvania" in reference to my WASR rifle. Oh well, its as simple for me as never giving that shop another penny, I just wanted to let others know that I had a lousy experience there in an effort to maybe save some potential customers from the same fate. Just don't mention that you own a WASR and you will be fine I suppose, although he did tell me that in order for an AR to be legal in NJ it must have a sear block in it... which is another load of crap all together but I will refrain from getting into it.
  5. Thank you that is if you are not being sarcastic lol.. I know its a plain jane KISS rifle, and the configuration is ancient by todays tactical standards, but thats just the way I prefer it.
  6. Hey I wasn't name calling, and I'm not making up my story. The guy simply told me that I was in violation of NJ law for possessing a WASR 10/63 that is capable of accepting a double stack magazine, and that ANY AK looking rifle that accepts a double stack magazine is illegal here. And he did not say it in a friendly, looking out for me kinda way, he was pretty aggressive about it. That said, I still purchased some small items from the store, but the guy I spoke with there was very uninformed when it comes to WASR rifles. I purchased my rifle at tips hardware here in NJ, I suppose if it was illegal, a NJ FFL probably would not have been selling it. If you want to support the store thats your business, I am not calling anyone names.. if you are refering to the Fudd statement, that term is just in reference to the guys who are not into black rifles and prefer the good old wood and blued steel stuff, I did not consider it derogatory, different strokes for different folks. Once again, I am not making up my story.. the guy working there did in fact say what I am claiming he said, and accused me of being in violation of NJ law for owning my WASR. If you have good experiences there then thats fine, and I apologize if you are offended by my experience in the store but it happened the way I am describing it. I did a google search on them and see that they got poor reviews from others as well. I have been to almost every gun shop in this state and I am yet to encounter an employee saying anything about double stack 10 round AK type magazines or the rifles that accept them being illegal here, or being capable of full auto conversion because of their willingness to accept a double stack magazine. Again, I apologize if I offended you, that was not my intention in making my post.. I simply wanted to get the word out so maybe other potential customers wouldnt make the same mistake I did and ask about rifles that accept double stack AK magazines. I have no reason to LIE about this and apparently another person in this thread was told the same thing about WASRs in the shop. The employee/owner is simply misinformed and maybe this thread will help educate him on the subject matter. If he doesnt want to sell these particular rifles thats his business, but if he wants to tell customers that they are illegal and imply that I am a criminal for owning one, then thats just flat out misinformation.
  7. Honestly, I think you can just buy a pellet pistol in another state and bring it home. Most websites will ship one to you here in NJ also. No one is gonna press you for an FID if you try to purchase a bb gun at a walmart in a different state. I dont think you need a pistol permit to own it here, just to buy it here. I'm not sure if its legal under jersey law to purchase it in another state, but most states tend to follow their own laws.. its not like you're trying to purchase a ban-list firearm. I am not advocating any illegal activity though, so if its a no no to purchase one in another state and bring it home, then I guess you'd just have to get a pistol permit. This state is ridiculous.. I remember when I was a little kid and I wanted a bb gun more than anything, and my dad didnt have an FID back then so he couldnt get me one, luckily my grandfather had an FID and bought me a bb rifle as a present eventually.
  8. The guy working there told me that I am a criminal for owning a wasr in NJ because it accepts a double stack magazine and anything that accepts an AK-47 magazine is illegal in NJ because "it can be converted to a machine gun"... seriously the most uninformed, stupidest crap I've ever heard in a gun shop. There was no misunderstanding, the older guy working there told me that 10rd double stack AK mags are illegal, and that anything that accepts an AK mag is illegal here. I told him his ARs would accept a 30rd m16 mag so he proceeded to show me a sear block in a colt lower and told me that they cannot be converted to machine guns like AKs that accept double stack mags so they are legal here. I will shop elsewhere, I dont need to be accused of breaking the law by a gun store employee (he may even be the owner for all I know) who apparently knows very little about NJ's assault weapon laws and likes to publicly accuse his customers of engaging in illegal activity. That shop must cater strictly to Fudds. I think I should add that the guy working there had a very hostile tone with me and was having some kind of personal telephone conversation that didnt sound even remotely business related. I had to wait 15 minutes for him to finish his phone chat before he even acknowledged my presence in the shop.
  9. Oh thanks for the heads up! I guess I'll be making a trip to allentown now. And yeah, those are the folks I was talking about, very friendly service and fair prices.. great selection too, theres some pretty cool obscure stuff floating around in those cartons on the table.
  10. Well geez.. After reading that I dont really wanna patronize their range anymore, but I personally have not had any issues so far. Like I said before, if SS allowed rifles I'd shoot there instead, but thats not the case so I'm not gonna be going there either. I might give fort dix a try since apparently what I heard about them being nazis when it comes to black rifles is not true. That was the only thing preventing me from going there honestly, although I do like to dump mags as fast as I can pull the trigger just for the fun of it and so far BA seems to be the only range, in NJ, that doesnt really care if I do that. Does Fort Dix have rules regarding rapid fire? And please, before anyone implies that it is dangerous, I have never had a problem placing shots on target with rapid fire from the shoulder, especially using a 5.56 with a brake that reduces felt recoil. I stick with double taps at most when it comes to the .308 so that I do not stray off target. Its just something that I've always enjoyed doing.. a waste of ammo, but fun Its not like I'm talking about "bump fire" either, because it is understandable why ranges would not allow that.
  11. I'd be lying if I didnt confess that there is some truth to that statement.. I do just like sending lead down range, rapid fire, hip fire etc.. but its not ALL I enjoy doin. I do a lot of bench resting and prone shooting with a bipod everytime I'm at the range and focus on shot placement, I can shoot accurately, I tend to focus on this more with my 1911 than the rifles though. Oh and you mention illumination at the outdoor ranges, just curious.. are tracer rounds illegal to own in NJ? if they are legal, do any ranges allow them? seems like it would be helpful for shooting in low light conditions.
  12. gun shows in PA.. I usually stock up at the valley forge show, theres a booth in the back that has decent deals on all sortsa bulk stuff. I buy a lot of steel cased 5.56, a couple hundred rounds of surplus brass cased 5.56, german surplus 7.62x51 battle packs and whatever non-corrosive 7.62x39 they have for the lowest price. I always end up having to buy a few empty 7.62x39 romanian crates from the army surplus guy right across from the ammo booth to carry it all, then having to make multiple trips to the car lol. sadly, the next show isnt for a few months and I'm running really low on ammo, might have to pick some up at dick's just to plink at the range
  13. I understand that the law says that you are in the right, but why do I have a feeling that if a police officer pulled me over and I had my AR with me, a NJ DL and no FID that it could potentially end badly? I know that I wouldn't end up getting in any trouble for it, but that could lead to spending hundreds of dollars to prove my case in court. I just don't think a lot of the local police officers are as knowlegable about these laws as civilian gun owners are. I'm sure there are a handful of cops in NJ that would haul someone in for having a firearm in their possession with no FID card, even though its not technically a crime. Personally, I wouldn't wanna be the one to find out the hard way.
  14. I was at a popular NJ shop a while back and the guy behind the counter was explaining to a potential customer that the perm attached 5.5 inch muzzle brake on an AR was removable and you could just unscrew it... I tried to explain that if you removed it the rifle would be an SBR but couldn't really get a word in Now that I think back on it, I don't even think those 5.5in brakes are legal here at all, even if they are perm attached, because they have an open muzzle end making them flash suppressors. I also heard some ridiculous nonsense from the guy behind the counter at sayreville sportsman, that got its own thread in the range/shop section.
  15. Until I joined this forum, I was unaware of an outdoor range in NJ that I could afford and was within an hour of where I live. I also dont think my 16" carbine or WASR would be very accurate out to 600 yards.. does a range that long exist in NJ? I can't afford CJ range, and I've heard a lot of things about range 14 being anti- black rifle, didnt they call the cops on someone with a semi auto belt fed? not to mention its just too far of a drive for me to go shooting there after work. BA is 20 mins away, its convenient. I just found out about the Monmouth county range, which is apparently very affordable, but it seems as though there is a lot involved to become a member (being voted in, joining the NRA, 1 year probation etc) and I'm not sure I really wanna deal with all that stuff, not to mention they close at dusk so I'd rarely be able to shoot there. For now, the 25 yard range will do. As long as I can load ammunition into my rifles and make them go bang, I'm happy. Maybe one day when I move out of this state, I will be able to go to public outdoor ranges that dont have any requirements for membership. In the meantime it is most convenient for me to go to the indoor range, they are open till 10pm so I can make it there by 9pm on weeknights and have an hour to shoot Its unbelievable how much of a pain in the butt it is to shoot rifles here. When I go to PA for vacation, all I have to do is walk onto the back porch of the rental house and I have my own private range where I make the rules.. only bad thing about it is that I end up burning through all my ammo in less than hour bumpfiring with standard capacity magazines and can't hear anything but high pitched ringing for a few hours afterwards. Its always a sad moment when I have to pack up my stuff, leave the standard capacity mags behind and head back into this state
