It's really speculation if you'll be able to do anything with silver/gold when Mad Max arrives. Some people think it's the only way to go. But think about it, will the grocery store or gas station take your silver coins for payment? If things get that bad that it's considered, I think we'll have a lot bigger issues to deal with.

Which is why, so far, my PMs consist of lead and brass.  In a MadMax scenario I think these will hold value just based on utility.

And if things get bad, but not MadMax bad, maybe having a mix of PMs + crypto as a hedge...

  2. Besides lead and  brass. What type/amount of physical metal do people keep or would like to keep? Not as investment but as a store of value for a near apocalypse?  And Gold vs silver vs other options?

And what about online purchase? Legit/honest online sellers.

Also I noticed a pretty large variation in silver prices/markup over spot based on the form, like certain coins seem to draw huge markups. I would think that when selling, the buyer is not going to care about an American Eagle vs a silver bar.

    Thanks

No big surprise in that both New Jersey senators are sponsors of the bill.

Even though Feinstein introduces a similar bill  every year, there's more democrat traction this year.  Given that Republicans are better at being the minority, I hope they make the filibuster work.

Hoping that Machine and Sinema have the backbone to stand against this, or at least stand against eliminating the filibuster rule.

  4. Move to ocean county.  My GP is great, she was pushing HCX when we saw her last June.  And in January telling us DO NOT GET THE VACCINE!

And my wife's former Ob/Gyn wrote a note when PD had questions about a medical condition for her FPID approval. They wouldn't approve without a doctor's note! Had nothing to do with his specialty, but he didn't care, just asked what guns she was going to buy, and wrote a note saying it would not affect her ability to safely handle a gun.

  5. I have the 92FS and I love it, great gun.  I did not know about the .22 conversion kit, but based on a quick search it looks pretty good.  Quick and easy to swap and I couldn't find a negative review so far. I will consider getting this for cheaper target shooting.

    And welcome to the forum

  6. I just acquired a new AR (Modern Materiel, built up in Keyport, NJ) and noticed the manual stated to use only brass cased ammo, built to SAAMI spec.  Is there any reason not to run non-brass (e.g. Steel)? Could it cause damage?  What would be their rationale to put that in the manual?

    Thanks!

When we be done with voting for the "lesser of two evils"? When will a decent candidate appear?

Who knows, but until then should you vote for the candidate that is going to do everything possible to infringe on your civil rights, the one who is going to veto such laws and just maybe try and restore your civil rights, or vote for the Libertarian party candidate, who had no chance to win?

I don't have an issue with people who just want to take that stand on principle, but I would personally take the pragmatic choice.

If you're waiting for the perfect candidate, you will always be waiting.

Using a case of "suicide" by gun shot to the back of the head is hardly ground breaking reasoning not to use hand loads. And GSR will be on anyone, using any rounds, if self inflicted. There is not a hand load out there that exists that wouldnt do that.

If you use handloads neither you, nor the state has ballistic data to use in court. Thats not a lose for the defense, it's a draw. And lets be real, ballistic data doesn't change much at short home self defense ranges.

I'm finding it incredibly hard to beleive, especially with the lack of physical evidence, that hand loads dont leave GSR at the same distances a factory load would.

    This was my point.

It does not matter what you or I believe, what matters is what you can prove by repeatable means for the court.

That being said, I think we all can agree that is it gets too that point especially in NJ, you are already screwed.

Ugh, so much stupid in those links.

If the system is trying to screw you it will have little to do with handloads, not a single argument in those links has ever been used, and would never work with a half competent lawyer.

Yeah, Mas is a total dumbass when it comes to firearms.  No one is stopping you from using hand loads. Go ahead.

But why give the state extra ammo to help in their prosecution?  With hand loads they'll be able to throw out any argument based on ballistic testing, because there is no way to reproduce the load you used, other than based on your word.

Use the shotgun!  I would NEVER trust reloads that someone gave me to defend myself or my loved ones!    I would however, use my own reloads for defense over factory ammo any day!

I have always understood that custom hand loads is a very bad idea for self defense, as it is impossible to carry out ballistic testing if you are but able to use the exact same ammo.

"Determining distance using GSR evidence is supposed to be done by firing ammunition identical to what was in your gun at the time of the shooting. If the ammunition is not standard, it will be difficult to obtain accurate results. "

Ayoob and others strongly discourage it.  Mas talks about problems with " forensic replicability when the shooter is accused, and opposing theories of distance become a factor."

    Here's what Ayoob says:

Yes,  both parties suck!  The republican party sucks less than the Democratic party and can be saved by voting out the Rinos! Third parties never win and only serve to keep the Dems in power.

The trick is we must vote Republican but ONLY for the RIGHT Republicans!

But even a RINO like Chris Christie still held the line where it was by using his veto power, and granting pardons to otherwise innocent  people who accidentally failed to comply with draconian law.

Look what has happened since CC left, 10 rounds and people like Shaneen Allen get jacked up for an innocent misunderstanding.

I think one side is clearly the lesser of two evils.

In NJ, he would likely be charged as he exited the premises and went outside to engage. Engagements on your property but, are outside the house are a "gray area" in joisey.

Especially if they say you could've safely retreated.  Tens of thousands in legal fees, probably lose all your firearms, maybe jail time.

Just keep in mind the heavier RG-11 cable is for the extended drop lengths from the tap or pole (if aerial install)  to the home. If you under 150 ft RG-6 is fine. Again I’m not expert but splitters and splices also play a role in performance. Sometime you could get a general idea how things are going by viewing your modem stats to see if they are in within spec.

Are you sure you don’t mean download the W10 ISO?  I'm not sure why you would want to upload it?  As far as u/l speeds caps that’s cable and dsl in a nutshell. The only way around slow uploads is fiber connection where you get a symmetrical connections like 200/200, 500/500 or even symmetrical gig speed as noted above. Most people don’t upload as much as they download download as much as they upload so the slower upload speeds on cable suck but it isn’t a deal breaker if the service works correctly.

From the pole to the grounding block at my house is about 125', they just ran RG11 without any back talk.

I was uploading the iso to send to someone else, it is a special configuration.

Cable companies have a fiber backbones so in that respect you are correct and it doesn’t matter. What does matter is the length of the Coax drop from the tap to the home.  Say if you have an aerial Coax install over 150 feet from the tap and the installer used the standard RG-6 you could have problems as I did. I measured our drop and was just under 200 feet from the tap on the pole and we never had dependably service with cable.

After I found that RG6 had that distance limitation with all our ongoing service issues I’d asked the Cable Co to replace the drop with RG-11 (which is common practice for the longer runs)  but they declined.  We were fortunate because Verizon also serves our area so we dumped cable and restarted our service with VZ.

Just a side note on RG11 drops, it would only be ran from the tap to the grounding blocking. From the ground block and inside the home it  would the standard RG6

Did not realize this, I do have RG11 to the grounding block (which Comcast left floating, I had to run it to ground myself). But I probably have at least 100' RG6 inside...

Unfortunately, my options are limited to Comcast, Verizon dsl, or satellite.

Can anyone explain the 5mbps limit on upload speed for cable?  I had to upload a W10 iso the other day and it it took hours.

Only if you have a manifestly appropriate lawful use for it at the time. Self defense is not deemed a lawful use in NJ.

So, in theory, I could sling two unloaded ARs (one over each shoulder) and walk to the range on public thoroughfares?

I'm going to the range to legally practice.

As long as I have an FPID?

Or might I be cited and arrested for disturbing the peace?

And are you saying no FPID is required for a non-NFA firearm like Dark Storm)?
