To my knowledge, he purchased a Condo, so his name would be on the deed and he would be paying taxes. It is not just a summer rental/lease. Unsure how much of the year he would spend here vs FL. Could be around 50/50 since they're retired anyway.

Thanks for the replies so far. I doubt he has a NJ DL or files NJ taxes. He just has a summer home, so he has a NJ address. I was thinking along the lines of what GRIZ said, but just wanted to see if that was acceptable. If not I'll have to have him bring it to an FFL when he's ready and do it there. Seems like quite a waste of time and money. I mean, if he has a NJ address, it should be fine. It's not a requirement to have an FID to sell a firearm or even own one, just to buy. Technically I'd think a DL isn't even required.

Ok, I know the laws and saw the FAQ, but I'm not sure about this one. My uncle wants to give me a pistol. I know I need a permit, but the issue is his residency. He has a home in both Florida and NJ. Since he has a NJ address, is that good enough to proceed as a private sale face to face without an FFL? He likely doesn't have an FID since he used to be a cop in NJ, retired many years ago, and moved down to FL a few years ago. I haven't gotten all the details from him since he just mentioned it in passing, but it's likely his duty revolver since he said it's a .357, and I'm sure he got it long before the FID requirement, plus he was a cop anyway and may not have needed the FID at that time. Any advice on how to handle it? I'm guessing I would just get a permit and fill it out as a normal face to face transaction (which I've never done for handguns, so I don't even know how to fill out the permit), but what would I put in Seller's ID Card #? Obviously I can't put a FL DL. Or does his primary residence, and thus his DL, have to be NJ for it to qualify? He said he has no idea what all the crazy gun laws are in NJ, and when I told him I'd need a permit he said "Really? Even for family?". If it's needed, just wait until I tell him that he has to bring it to a NJ dealer to do the transfer.

BTW, for anyone interested in getting into safety razors or straight razors, Badgerandblade.com has a TON of good information, and I tend to order my stuff from westcoastshaving.com when possible. They don't carry everything, but they have a lot. Be careful though. I've found it to be just like firearms. Once you start buying, it's hard to stop. I have no less than 6 nearly full containers of shaving cream and even more aftershave, and I'm currently filling a cart at westcoast to order more. Luckily I have a separate medicine cabinet from my wife, so she doesn't notice. And to answer the question of what I used before, I switched from the disposables. They never really gave me a good shave, barely better than electric, but with a lot of irritation. Now I pay $0.25 or less per blade that lasts 2-4 shaves, compared to the Mach 3 cartridge that costs what? About $3-4 a piece for the same number of shaves? It takes a little longer, but gives a much better result. And I've never tried pre-shave oil. I may have to give a shot, see if it makes a difference.

Merkur 34C, Tweezerman brush (considering upgrading), Feather blades, and a variety of shaving creams and aftershaves. No pre-shave oil. Although lately I value sleep more than a good shave, so I use an electric before work, and the real thing on the weekends. Luckily mine grows slowly enough that if I do a real shave, I can get away with every other day, especially since it's horribly uncomfortable if I use a razor every day. When I use the electric though, I feel like I need to use it every 15 minutes to remove the 5 o'clock shadow, it never really gets a good shave.

I think the key difference is that CTD and others stopped selling firearms altogether. This place rescinded the sale after learning his true reasons. The store is still selling any and all firearms...just not to Kelly.

I've actually explained the process for purchasing a firearm and how drawn out it is and how long it can take. The response I got was "So? You get your guns eventually, right?" and "My niece just got her's and she didn't complain." I've countered both and get ridiculous responses back. I've even said "So it's ok to delay a right as long as you get it eventually?", to which they say "With guns, yes." I've found that they're not interested in facts or real arguments, just that we're restricted.

The rule of thumb that I've been told before, and tend to go by, is about 15% off MSRP as a gauge. I will also usually check Galleryofguns.com to get an idea of the going rate if possible. YMMV of course. And given the current situation, all bets are usually off for getting good deals when nothing is on the shelf.

I'm pretty sure the lack of exempting the 590 is not evidence that they're trying to ban it. Fortunately laws don't work that way. To be quite honest, there is no reason to have the exemption list other than to belittle and patronize gun owners. They specifically call out the definition and combination of features that would be banned, and then an extra list of specifically named firearms that would be banned. The bottom line is that if it doesn't fall under that, it's not banned. Also, my 590a1 doesn't have a bayo lug either. I was under the impression that most don't.

Any idea if these defenses have ever been tried in court? I wonder how they'd actually hold up.

The response I always get to a statement like that is "Yeah, but firearms are DESIGNED to kill, [blank] isn't." I've even received that response for cigarettes and alcohol. When I mention that both are poisons designed to be ingested, they stick with "Yeah, but it's not designed to kill." That's when I know all serious discussion is over.

And like wsaraceni said, it's almost exclusively lever, pump, bolt action and single shot rifles and shotguns. It's basically her way of patronizing gun owners by saying "here's a list of exempted firearms that don't meet what I'm banning anyway."

They apparently knew this for a month and have just conveniently overlooked it because it hinders their agenda. This whole thing feels very much like the Martin/Zimmerman issue last year where they generate as much hype as possible to get the people all worked up and screaming, and then just let the truth quietly slip away.

I think the comments section on NJ.com is going to be the death of me. No matter how much logic or facts I give, they just deflect with other liberal drivel and diatribes. It got to the point where they said that because I'm not listening to their common sense, they just dig their heels in more and refuse to listen. That was when I realized every second I spend there is a month off my life. I think what I need to realize is that just because there's a handful of people on the Star Liberal comments page spewing stupid nonsense, doesn't mean that we've lost. I saw that USA Today article someone posted with the Rasmussen studies saying that our cause is actually in the majority, and I now feel a little bit better. Fortunately Rasmussen studies I think are a little more reputable than some Philly university that starts with the assumption that I've been shot and then asks whether I had a gun.
