  1. I think it unlikely that this was a terrorist attack. Regardless, is it totally impossible? No. What's more difficult? Hijacking four airliners and flying them into U.S. properties, or disabling a container ship's engine at a critical moment? The captain is Ukranian. A "Black Swan Event" - General Flynn Raises Questions About Baltimore Bridge Collapse | ZeroHedge There should have been a port pilot on board working the navigation. I'll wait to hear what he/she has to say. And that we do hear from the pilot.
  2. More videos from different angles and a couple radio transmissions. The ship put out a Mayday that it lost power, and you can see the ship black out and relight several times prior to the crash. Also, a huge plume of smoke erupts just before it hits, possibly due to an emergency engine restart. There's also some comments on the shipping effects. 3. Two of our favorite Democrats have introduced a new way to catalog U.S. citizens who might be interested in securing their own environs. SHALL BE INFRINGED: New Gun Grab Law Criminalizes Shooting Ranges, Private Security. (thenationalpulse.com)
  4. I just saw a map of the area, and that bridge is on 695 that swings southeast before Baltimore. 95 appears to go straight through. If I remember correctly, depending on where they're heading some drivers take 695 to avoid the direct route through Baltimore. I suppose that regardless, traffic will be a mess down there for a while with all the confusion.
  5. As of 8:40 this morning, the report is that the ship lost propulsion. If you watch the time lapse video where motion is exaggerated, the ship appears to really be drifting when it hits the pier. I really don't think this has anything to do with an 'attack'. The national and global effect will be the closure of the Baltimore Harbor. I'm not sure if there's another route in or out that can pass ships that size. Lots of cruise ships go in and out of there as well. The interruption of all that cargo traffic won't help price increases either. Anyone got a cruise planned?
  6. ".... and used one of the approved terms: RACIST!"
  7. Da yah think? LOL So much for Murphy's and Platkin's "blood in the streets if we allow carry permits." Permits up 5,000%, shootings down 30%. Let's go for 100,000 permits! Thanks for noting that @High Exposure I may have to join you there Emma!
  8. The weekend shooting in Trenton triggered a rehash of NJ law. When you can use a gun in NJ to defend your home or self (nj1015.com) Veteran prosecutor Skip Reale cautions: “New Jersey has a very, very different view on a citizen's right to use force to defend either oneself, defend another, or defend property. We have a very restrictive view on that.” Even if you are rightly defending yourself or a family member or any other person, Reale says the climate in New Jersey will impact the decisions of investigators and law enforcement with regard to how they proceed, “and while in maybe 48 states, you wouldn't get indicted, in New Jersey, you run the serious risk of being charged. Even if common sense says it's a righteous shoot, it's likely you're going to have to go through a court of law. In New Jersey, we have a presumption of innocence, but we don't have a presumption that you made the right choice.” Wonderful. 9. Very sorry to hear that Stu. You are obviously a devoted owner. Our pets become part of our families, and it always hurts when we lose one. Condolences from Mr. & Mrs. 45Doll.
  10. They get by with a little help from their friends. Like five years of increase. Here are the Republicans that voted to raise New Jersey's gas tax (nj1015.com)
  11. Sussex County too. It's been hovering around $3 +/- .10 for the last month. Then late last week and weekend it's popped up .20 or so depending on which stations got new deliveries. Saw as high as $3.36. Gas Prices Creep Up Amid Higher Cost of Oil, Seasonal Demand - NerdWallet
  12. Here's a small slice of Trenton life on the topic. VIDEO: N.J. resident schools snarky Democrat legislator on gas tax (savejersey.com)
  13. Where'd you get them??? A lot of enlightenment squeezed onto a postcard!
  14. Yes I know. That's my interpretation.
  15. So Murphy and Platkin definitely think those who apply for carry permits are a root source of 'senseless gun violence'? Push For Gun-Free Zones Intensifies In New Jersey Post Bruen Decision (nj1015.com) The real name should be "Criminal Protection Zones". Come on in!
  16. Not much 'gun safety' there. Or was he point-shooting at evil white oppressors living upstairs?
  17. OK. Start the timer for the first armed robbery at a decaled business. And the perpetrator of course will not have a permit to carry. Nor can they probably read. Does this mean we can sue a business that posts that decal if we're harmed in their store during an armed robbery? /SarcOff/ I already know the answer.
  18. OK, you're right. To be frank, I've been in NJ my entire life and I'm so tired of navigating the minefield sometimes I just give up. To the best of my recollection there's never been an issue with the one-gun-a-month 30 day arithmetic. And I don't recall if there's ever been a lawsuit specifically about the fact of restricting handgun purchases to one per 30 days. I'll let others chime in on that. The requirement to issue a permit-to-purchase within 30 days is what I referred to, not your topic. Having said that, IMO any lawsuit to remove the one-gun-a-month restriction will/would have to go past the NJ Supreme Court to have any chance of success. If the $50 handgun purchase permit fee becomes law, that I think would be even more onerous.
  19. OK, sounds like you are well aware of what you're getting into. So good luck with your search, and your career.
  20. Yes, it was way back after the statute was passed and many PDs were ignoring the 30 day mandate. Nothing post-Bruen, and there won't be. No one's going to waste their time and money. The current NJ Supreme Court isn't going to overturn itself for our benefit. You know, 'it's for the children' etc.
  21. Fly your own plane. Seriously. It's my understanding a lot of pilots that live up in Sussex County NJ do/did just that. I'm not being sarcastic. @Mr.Stu is right. You move somewhere you think will be within a 90 minute drive, and indeed may be on some days. Then on other days nature, construction, protesters, flight delays etc. intervene and it turns into three hours without breaking a sweat. I realize just 'flying your own plane' is a high bar. But it appears so is your career choice coupled with location. Good luck whatever you decide.
  22. There was already a challenge to the one-gun-a-month rule years ago, and the NJ Supreme Court already ruled it's good to go. This is New Jersey, where the 'law' means what they want it to mean. Public interest, safety, and all the rest. The thirty day clock will start when they feel like it. So shut up and wait. We don't need no stinkin' statutes. Somewhere on this site this is discussed if you want case specifics.
  23. Don't worry. Our AG is putting in his two cents. (Not ours!) AG Platkin, AG Jennings, AG Henry defend commonsense gun safety laws in federal court - WRNJ Radio And take note it's 'common sense'.
  24. She has indicated she wouldn't sign this. Believe her? And what about Phil? N.J. Dems are fast-tracking changes to public records laws. A lot of people are alarmed. - nj.com NJ OPRA: State Senate moves bill that would gut transparency (njherald.com) "Keep 'em in the dark." NJ Open Public Records Act under assault by Trenton lawmakers (njherald.com) The bill would allow state and local officials to sue any resident if they decide a records request is intended to “harass a public agency.” Worse, officials could simply refuse to share records they think might result in “harassment” — an open invitation to hide embarrassing records when officials view public criticism as harassment.
