    What Would You Do?

The plastic guns aren't out of contention, but as the first I just feel like I want steel. I don't know why, but I do. As for the Beretta, not my thing. At least not the 92. Great guns, but I just don't like them. The storm seems cool and if it was a metal frame, I'd strongly consider it. Thanks for the offer, M4BGringo. I do appreciate it. Does anyone feel like letting me try out their 226? Or Baby Eagle? Or, 9mm 1911. Drop me a line. I'd really appreciate it. C

    What Would You Do?

I also wanted to say, please don't feel obliged to stick to the list I provided. I appreciate the Ruger suggestion. I am not in love with the way it feels, however. But, I appreciate the suggestion. Anyone shot the Baby Eagle 4.5'' in steel? C
  3. So, I'm completely befuddled right now. I want to buy a 9mm. It has enough pop and power for what I want to do. I don't want anything larger. No .40, .45. .50 or anything else. The 9 will have enough bang without killing the bank. So, that's what I want.. I caught between getting a Sig 226, possibly a tupperware gun (not all that appealing) or a 1911. I have a 1k budget, and that is the TOP of my budget. Unfortunately, if it's a 1911, I would prefer a U.S. made gun. The other stuff, I can do out of country. The gun will be mostly a range toy. Possibly some local competition, but not much. Also will do duty as HD gun. My buddy shoots, so I will have the opportunity to shoot a bit and I am hoping to meet some folks on here to hook up with as well. Given these criteria, I am looking for suggestions. FWIW, I really like the Kimber Stainless II 9mm, and the Springfield Armory 9mm (I know, not truly U.S. made), the 226 (specifically the Extreme), and the Smith and Wesson M&P Pro 9mm. Thanks and I am looking forward to the discourse. C
  4. We should organize a Bergen Cty meetup just after the new year. Not even a shooting thing, just a meet up. If anyone is interested, let me know. C
  5. Howdy-howdy! Nice to see some north Jerzee folks on here! C
  6. Welcome! Where in Bergen Cty. are you? I'm right near Paramus and looking to get my first pistol after the new year. Good luck with your search. C
  7. ^^^That's great info. I will call him a little later today.^^^ Thanks again all I really do appreciate it. If it wasn't for y'all, I'd definitely be on the wrong course re: my purchase. C
  8. I have gotten some quotes from the vendors on here. I will be using them to my advantage. I wish that they were closer. It would be great to support those that support me, however by the time I add up fuel costs to travel an hour each way, it'll negate a bit of the savings. If it's enough to justify, I will, however take the ride. C
  9. Hey Col. Mortimer. I'm right near Tenafly. If ever you're up this way on a sunday/monday, give a holler. C
  10. I'm gonna head to Ramsey Outdoor in Ramsey tomorrow later morning, maybe 10ish. Get there 10-10:30. If anyone is in the area and knows Sigs and would like to offer opinions in person, coffee is on me. I'm always up for an education. C
  11. ^^^Again, thanks for the info.^^^ This is what I've been looking for, information wise. Short, concise, to the point. I'm going to look new, most likely. First firearm and I want it to be all mine. I am not all that sure of what it means to shorten the reset between shots? Definitely not something I'm at all familiar with. Something I'll look into, for sure. C

Howdy from Bergen Cty. Where in JC are you located? C
  13. Thanks, wsaraceni!!! That's the kind of info I need. What am I looking for...? Good question. The basics: 9mm- Ammo cost, availability of said ammo, familiar recoil Metal Gun- I like the feel and heft of a metal framed gun Good Ergos/Grip- Need I say more? Use- Range time, possible comp. (local), HD Looks- I like the way the Sigs look, a lot. I've held the 226 in my hand both in the Elite and some other model that I didn't take note of. They both felt great and I really like the look of them. I am open to other suggestions. The Sig's are at the top of my price range. So, going for a 1911 is probably not going to work at this point. Most of them are too expensive. Also, for some reason, if I buy a 1911, I'd want to get a U.S.A. made gun. The Ruger is almost impossible to find and I would need to compromise on the ammo selection. The Smith and Wesson's are outta my league. So, I find myself (most willingly, I might add) looking at the Sig's. I looked at polymer guns from S&W, Beretta, H&K, and Ruger. They just don't do it for me. Thanks for any input. C
  14. Interestinig direction that this thread has taken. All good stuff. I am interested in a Sig. If anyone in North Jersey has the time or inclination to let a newbie handle their gun, please let me know. My days off are sunday/monday. Bayonne is an easy commute for me if you want to meet up there. I know it pretty well as I used to live there. If you want/need Bayonne references on my character, just ask Danny or Peewee at Bay Cycle. PM me or reply to the thread and I will PM you. Just remember to check your inbox. Thanks all for the help. Christopher
  15. What's the difference between the Sig models? Is it (as it seems to me) a barrel length/caliber thing. To my exceptionally un-educated eye, many of them look similar- ie: the 229 and the 226. Or is it something internal that I can't see in pics? Is it a single vs. double stack thing? I am wondering as I am very seriously interested in one and yet can't quite tell the differences between them. Thanks and keep the chuckling to yourselves!!! C
  16. Not for nothing, I did a bunch of looking at 1911's recently. I don't have one, so take this all with a grain of salt, but the Ruger is supposed to be a really nice gun for 7-800 dollars. Nice looking, all American made. Good shooter. Nice intro into that part of the world. Really hard to find. Good luck with your decision. I'll be checking in on this thread to see what you pick up. C
  17. Sorry for the confusion. I am not considering a .40 to purchase. I am still on the 9mm. Just looking at the Elite and they happened to have the .40 in stock so I went and fondled it. They had another Sig 226 as well and that grip was a good deal more comfortable. I'm currently swooning over the gun that I believe I will purchase, just waiting to get a couple of prices on it. FWIW, I like this board. Nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. Good place. C
  18. Thanks all for the props on the bike. Thanks as well for all the cool headed replies. I really do appreciate it. C
  19. Thanks again for all the replies. I went to a shop yesterday and put the Elite .40 in my hands. While I LOVE the looks of the gun, the grips are a little too fat for me. I put a "regular" 226 in my hand and love the feel. So, I've (again) switched it up. I'm still looking at the Sig's, however the model has changed. I will let all know what I decide by monday, most likely. And yes, looking at that gun makes me want to shoot. I thought I would want a 1911, but after meeting the Sig, I'm ready to put $$ on the table. C
  20. Yup, just like it says, I'm working on my first firearm purchase. I am looking at the Sig P-226 Elite in 9mm. However, I am open to any and all recommendations. I am looking for primarily a range gun and to possibly compete at a local level. I would like to take some firearms classes with my 11 year old step son as well and will look into a gun for him at a later date but I would like to have something of my own to take along. I came upon the 226 as the other guns I was intereted in were either not available or too expensive. I would like a metal framed gun as I like the heft in my hand and will not be carrying (I don't think they let hairdressers carry) so the weight won't be an issue. I would like a full size gun for accuracy and comfort. 9mm for the stopping power in the home, god forbid and the reasonable price to shoot it on the range. Sig as they are reputed to be quite reliable. How is their customer service? To that end, what shop would y'all recommend? I have been to Ramsey Outdoor, both Paramus and Ramsey. I'll never set foot in the Paramus store again. Less than pleasant experience with the sales guy. In Ramsey, I've dealt with a few folks and had great experiences. Been to Meltzer's and found them to be very knowledgeable and freindly. I'm open to suggestions and willing to pay a couple of dollars more for really good initial and follow up service rather than buy online. However, if it's a hundred or more dollars after shipping and FFL fees, I'll buy online. Thanks and I look forward to the responses. C
  21. No, not a Ceriani, just a modern 39mm HD Sporty front end. Again, thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to my purchase and I think I have make up my mind on what to get. More on that in another thread. C
