  1. Probably my P226 9mm, for mag capacity and weight, though i wouldnt rule out a .45. Long gun would be a tough call, but it would depend on what the SHTF situation is...but a .22LR Marlin XT22, something. 223 like a M4 or my bolt action Savage, or a 12 ga of some sort...like my next purchase, which will be a Benelli Supernova. Obviously id plan on something using the most common calibers, which all my current guns are chambered for (.22, 9mm, .45, 12ga, .223, 7.62x54r). Hopefully id have the ability to bring all or most of them, or at least arm trusted others with them.
  2. I'm 29, started when I was 28. Shot my first real gun about one year ago (suppressed M4 and M9...went and applied for my FID the next day). I was into shooting airsoft and BB guns for a number of years prior to getting my FID.
  3. my guns all like the federal champion(?) blue box 500rd boxes (50x10) just fine. also cci mini mags, cci stingers, and even the golden bullets. for el cheapo ammo, im quite happy with the 2-3 boxes of golden bullets ive used so far. however, if i were to stick to just two types of .22s, itd be the 500rd federal bulk and stingers...have had the least problems with those, and they are still fun to shoot. the minimags work flawlessly, but are expensive (for .22s) vs. what they give over the federals, and are much slower than stingers, which make my sig mosquito feel almost like a "real" gun...heh.
  4. I have a sig 1911 TTT and love it. Been reliable for me for the 500 or so rounds through it. I love the looks and feel of the gun. OK, updated the link, and on a real computer with a real keyboard now. Feel of the Sig 1911 is great, I personally prefer the style of the Sig over a more traditional 1911... Mine came with stock night sights. I do not regret getting my Sig TTT whatsoever...
  5. I always mentioned the change of address sticker in case flipping my license over was too much of a hassle... never was given any issues...
  6. Thanks for posting this, i just bought some of this and will have to inspect the rounds for this issue. Where did you buy them from, if you dont mind my asking?
  7. Nikon scopes are pretty decent for the price. If you trust a used one, you can get a real good deal. I got mine for less than half its original price. There are also nice weaver and leupold scopes that are pretty reasonable, least from what ive seen. Bhphotovideo.com has a bunch of scopes, but strangely no nikons. They are one of the biggest photo and video retailers out there, usually very good prices and inventory.
  8. Any molle attachment points? You know, for garbage disposal on the go.
  9. Sunset Hill range is where I started out. Costs you $35 the first day, $25 for a safety briefing, $10 range rental. More if you use a pulley bay, shoot skeet, or rent their guns. Once you have that briefing, you are good for a year, and subsequent visits are $10 (or more). If they aren't busy, that $10 can be an all day thing. I never went weekends, but it's usually crowded I am told. Very new guy friendly, as that's their bread n butter... If you rent their guns, you gotta buy their ammo, and I feel $5 for 10rds of .22LR is a tad steep...but whatever. Range is only 35yds, so don't go expecting long range stuff... I do love the reactive targets and have spent days there just taking the hanging wood blocks apart, piece by piece, until there's none left, and then moving to the next block. http://sunsethill.slvrcreek.com/home.htm After 'graduating' from Sunset Hill, I went looking for a place I could go that was closer and had a longer-range range. Easton Fish and Game Association is $60 for the first year, $30 per year after that. I joined late last month, going for my 3rd time today. Great place to join once you have a little background in shooting. www.efga.net Based on your username, either one may be close...ish.... to you (Sunset is a little north of 80, Easton right near 78). Just remember to factor in range fees, gas, and $1 toll for either range, vs what say Cherry Ridge range fees would cost initially plus gas savings.
  10. I got a Savage 10FCP-K in .223. Bolt action with 5 rd mag, heavy fluted barrel with brake, accutrigger, and accustock. I've been happy with it so far, but I've only put a 160 rounds through it so far. Can pick it up for under $850 new.
  11. Thank you very much for the info. I do appreciate it. The temporary pass i have shows i paid my membership and says it is good to go for 30 days, but that i cannot bring guests until i get my real guest pass. I cant wait to vo tomorrow now. Thank you again.
  12. OK, so I went online on Sunday and applied for membership to Easton Fish and Game Association, as a new member (and also applied for a guest pass). I have a temporary 30 day membership pass printed up, but have not received my member information in the mail yet, nor any special instructions via email. I joined based on suggestions in other threads, but have never visited EFGA...so I don't know how things work exactly beyond what is posted in their rules. I am hoping to go this week, preferably Thursday if possible as I have off work and it is supposed to be nice...however, I do not have a card and am unsure if I will be able to get in (like, is there a gate?). Their site is admittedly not the most informative site out there, or maybe I'm just missing something glaringly obvious. Before I can go shoot, do I need to go through a briefing or go to any meetings? While it's not too far a drive, I'd rather not waste a trip if I won't be able to get in. I see on the calendar there is a board meeting that night and a general meeting the following week...but no information beyond that is posted for this month. I've been dying to try out my new bolt action, I've had it 45 days and have not fired it (...pure agony I tell you!) but I also don't wanna be kicked out before I have even shot there... Anyway...for the TL;DR's out there: Do I need to go through any briefing/meeting? can I get in without a [permanent] card? on Thursday the 23rd? anything else I need to know? Thanks a lot guys, and hope to see you out there sometime -Dave
  13. Not today, as i am posting this from my phone while at work, but maybe tomorrow or sunday. I wanna try out my new bolt action...
  14. All i know is I hate the federal 525rd bulk ammo. None of my 4 .22s liked it, yet they function just fine with all other .22 ammo i've fed em. I really prefer the federal 500rd boxes with 10 boxes of 50 in em, usually for the same price. Maybe I just got 2 bad boxes, but what is often a 1 in 10 rounds FTF with the cheap federal bulk is unacceptable to me...
  15. Thankfully i have never heard this commercial... Every few months, I give radio another chance. I switch off my mp3s and try my "favorite" station. it is usually crap or a commercial, so i move on to another station. same thing happens. I try one more station, same thing... I give up and go back to my mp3s.
  16. It said 4699 before i signed last night, but when i viewed it again after id submitted it, it was down to 4676 for some reason. Wonder if someone can retract themself or maybe it looks for things like obviously fake names...
  17. Water drops can be really beautiful...(nice shot above btw). I remember watching that show when it aired...I was impressed... I have (somewhere) a shot of a water droplet 'exploding' on a knife blade made of rustproof H1 steel. It takes a hell of a lot of frames to get the shot you want. Having a camera capable of capturing 8+ frames per second does really help...it just has to be properly lit as well...
  18. I own a fair number of Spyderco knives, from ones that I spent $7 on, to ones worth hundreds of dollars. Some of the more rare and valuable ones are indeed safe queens, but I do carry a fair number of mine, and rotate them out of my EDC rotation. I've never been concerned when it comes to carrying...I carry a knife to use...so whatever that knife happens to be, I do use it. Same when it comes to LEOs, I carry without concern for them as I only ever have thought of a knife as a tool...
  19. I believe I have a cheap Simmons 3-9x32 on my Marlin XT-22 and a Simmons 4x32 on my 25N, both designed for .22s and included rings. I think the 4x was 30, the 3-9x was 35, and I got at least one at Ramsey Outdoors, the other may have been at Dicks. For the ranges I've shot them at, which is admittedly only 35yds max so far, they are accurate and have held zero. I wouldn't put them on an Anshutz .22, but for a basic plinker, I am happy.
  20. The copper plating apparently is slightly harder than the lead and helps prevent excess buildup in the barrel/chamber...at least that's my understanding. My mosquito likes the Remington Golden Bullet 525rd bulk ammo just fine, which as far as I can tell is plated with ....something (doesn't look like copper)...and it is only $17 on sale at dicks pretty often. .22 ammo is dirt cheap. Try a bunch, see what your gun likes. Most ammo is available in 50 or 100rd boxes, so you don't have to buy it in bulk to test it out. Just bring a pen/marker and write how the gun performed with the ammo so you remember which stuff was good and what was not. Eventually you will find a few brands that are cheap and have good reliability. Like I said, clean the gun well first, keep it wetter than you would keep most guns, and for at least the first 200-300 rounds, stick to just the mini mags. Every 100 or so rounds, consider adding lube to the hole behind the ejection port, and maybe to the feed ramp. After you've broken the gun in with the mini mags, try out 50 or 100 rounds of ammo that is 1200+fps and see how it cycles. I'm 99% sure that when maintained and broken in properly, the current generation mosquito will run almost any decent higher velocity .22s without a hitch. If you wanna run just the mini mags, that's fine, as it is still way cheaper than a centerfire cartridge. If you want the Mosquito to feel a little more like a real gun, try CCI stingers or other hypervelocity ammo...stingers make the Mosquito quite fun (well, more fun). Just, be sure you avoid the cheap Federal copper washed 36gr hollow points in 525rd bulk packs. The 2 packs I bought I would say that 1 in 10 rounds failed to fire the first time, in 4 different guns which function reliably with every single other ammo I have fed them. Check out cheaperthandirt.com - they have a bunch of 50rd boxes of all sorts of ammo, give a bunch a try. Just be sure to order it all from te same warehouse so the shipping costs are low.
  21. I love my marlin xt22. It is decently accurate and doesnt feel like a cheap toy like some .22s ive held. I have a 3-9x32 scope and bipod on mine, and it hits where i place the crosshairs as long as my end is up to snuff. I picked mine up at ramsey outdoors, and i paid about 220 for mine with nics and tax. Not including the scope or bipod of course. I like that mags are available and cheap for the marlin, as i picked up a 25n a few weeks after getting the xt22, and they share mags. Allows me to bring more non gun owners out on shoot days without having to worry bout costs, and they have just as much fun with the .22s. Sorry for typos or punctuation, again using a phone to post...
  22. Mosquito should be broken in with mini mags. Make sure to clean the gun well before firing, and lube it up more than the average gun. Once broken in with some mini mags, the mosquito likes most 1200+ fps .22s. Mine really loves cci stingers, mini mags, remington golden bullets, win super x, federal blue box 40gr lead nose. It (and all my. 22s) dislike federal 36gr hp copper plated 525rd boxes and i am so happy i only have a few rounds left of that crap. I do have some american eagle sitting here, have never run it through any of my,.22s so i cant comment yet. I have easily 1000-1500 rounds through my mosquito and i have only used a few hundred mini mags through it. The federal 40gr and stingers are my main food for my mosquito. Sorry for typos and punctuation, posting this from my phone.
  23. Place I work at has shipped a few used cameras to China through ebay transactions, most of these items are worth less than $100. Nearly every item we have shipped to China has resulted in a claim or complaint against us. One buyer claimed the camera arrived damaged, which is plausible enough (despite the way we pack things), but demanded we refund his money or pay $40 to ship it back (on top of what it cost us to ship it out), or we would get negative feedback. All this, for an item we sold for $45... I wish I could say it was a single instance of this, but sadly it is not. It seems almost commonplace from our transactions with certain countries. You have to fill out extra paperwork, shipping costs more, there is probably no way of tracking your package, and you really have a lot less options open if/when something goes wrong. Paypal tends to side with the buyer, almost no matter what you say or can prove...and with foreign transactions, you probably can't prove a thing... With all the extra work/time/potential issues involved, I say do not risk it.
  24. P226 9mm - 3x 15rd mags currently, though planning to add 3 or 4 early this year 1911.45 - 3x 8rd mags currently, though planning to add 2 or 3 at some point Mosquito .22LR - 2x 10rd mags currently, planning to add 1 or 2 more eventually Once I start getting into competition shooting, I'll be adding more mags for the 1911 and P226. I have other accessories I'll need as well...
