Bry@an, you are right if I can get two nice pumps for the price of one nice SA. Thanks everyone for your input im leaning heavily towards the Remington 870 right now with a 28" barrel.
-
If I do choose to go with a pump what length barrel would be appropriate for clays, I know a lot of other threads on here have advised to go with an 18.5'' barrel for home defense but for clay shooting I would imagine wanting a longer barrel.
-
I probably should also add I have seen a youtube video of a guy with a benelli, trickshooting a whole bunch of clays (definetely an SA) and that looked really cool, but the tactical side in me wants to get a pump with a pistol grip on it.
-
Im planning on spending $500-$600 and not really clay sports just looking at getting a cheap clay thrower and going to a Wildlife mangement area with a few friends to blast at some clays.

I am looking into buying my first shotgun and am stuck on deciding on whether or not I would want an autoloader or a pump action. I am looking to shoot clays (primarily) informally and for home defense (secondary). Any oppinons/pros and cons on either type. I have been looking at 12 gauges mostly and have a few brands (benelli, beretta, remington) in mind.

Thats one of the best I have seen

That forearm does look like it would fit a hand comfortably.. That changes my oppinions a little with what type of shotgun I want to purchcase.

South Jersey Shooting Club is pretty nice, plus they host some pretty cool events for its members like 3 gun competitions and are having a frozen nutz competition(prone rifle shooting) in January I believe. Plus gun for hire does host classes at the range.
-
Thanks for the targets, especially the ones geared towards lefty's. Im definetely going to use them when I head out to the range next week.

Welcome to the forums, shooting 22s is a very fun and inexpensive hobby.

New Shop In Pennsauken... Lawmen Supply Expanding
Arbelest replied to axeman_g's topic in Ranges & Gun Shops
Thanks for the heads up, I am glad another place opened up by me to give Hagues a little competition. -
Yes, I thought SJSC was the best ranges I found when I started looking around. The only thing I can't do there is shoot clays but I am told they are working on that along with opening up a pro-shop there at the range. As soon as I am done with college I am going to start looking for work in different states. Currently I am looking at Maryland, Delaware, or Tennessee.

Im assuming your reffering to PA?

Hello everyone, I am new to shooting and got my FID card a few months after I turned 18. Currently I am learning on a .22 but am looking into clay shooting and larger caliber rifles down the road. Unfortunatly I cannot buy handguns yet but my time for that will come later on.

I found the forums by researching the gun laws in NJ and after 10 minutes of going through threads decided to sign up so I could get some of my own questions answered.

Quote i. A semi-automatic rifle that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following: (1) A folding or telescoping stock; (2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; (3) A bayonet mount; (4) A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and (5) A grenade launcher; I have never been good with clearly understanding the laws but it sounds like I can have a telescoping stock on my rifle if none of the other "evil features" are present. Is that correct?
