  1. Thanks for all the kind words and great support. So much help today. Everyone seemed to have a great time. The scores are done and sent to the the webmaster of CJ Steel (http://www.centraljerseysteel.com/home.html). Check in later tonight or tomorrow to see the scores. Thanks again, see you next month.
  2. Yes, iron or optic, your choice of caliber but only one gun.
  3. P.S., I have a little something different planned for this match on two different stages. if we pull it off it should be fun and a "little' more challenging.
  4. +1 blksheep When we organized the members only steel match it was in response to people that were not able to shoot the first Sunday match. The complaints were that it lasted too long, and was too difficult. And in fact that is true of the first Sunday match for many shooters. It lasts well into the afternoon and caters to shooters that have more experience. It is also much more competitive. So we decided to create members only steel to cut down on the attendance, shorten the match, make it faster, and make if fun for the regular and beginner shooters. Many people stay away from the big match because they feel intimidated shooting with people that have shot steel for years and also with people that actually travel and compete on a national level. It's hard to have fun and feel good about yourself if you are a new shooter shooting against people that have ranked nationally in steel. This was a good compromise so we agreed to direct a match that was taken down a few notches. Most of us still shoot the first Sunday match also. If the stages seem less difficult that is by design and exactly what we intended. Even the seasoned shooters running the first Sunday match enjoy the fun of the Members Only match. It was never intended to be a "By The Book" steel match.
  5. Members Only Steel match is this Sunday, Oct 27th Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club. Normally it's the third Sunday of the month but I had to change the date because of the Cowboy Weekend at CJ. Registration begins at 0815, and closes promptly at 0845. Briefing starts at 0845, shooting starts at 0900. One firearm, any class, five stages. Anyone who has been to one of these knows it's over by 1130 - 1200. Quick stages, lots of fun. I may have a surprise planned for one stage, not sure yet. Bring 5 magazines. Children and spouses are considered "Members" at CJ so they can shoot also. Price is $3. Limited to members of CJRPC. 5 stages, 5 targets, 5 times = 125 rounds assuming perfection, which everyone is of course. Bring extra just in case your off. Next Sunday, November 3rd, the First Sunday Steel Match at CJ, open to the public. Six stages, 5 targets, shoot multiple guns if you want. Registration 0815, Briefing 0900 followed by shooting. Bring more ammo! See you Sunday
  6. I will respond because I have been asked but then I will not be following this thread any longer since my opinion is not the topic here nor am I posting it to have it debated. I am not giving legal or accounting advice nor am I suggesting you should go around not charging tax on NICS. I am simply stating what I was told when I asked the question to a tax professional. You must do what you feel is right. The debate on this thread is not going to change my position unless I am told to do so by my accountant. The basis for not charging tax on NICS is for both reasons stated above. 1. The NICS check is not the object of the sale. 2. These are fees charged to obtain government (federal) and State records and information from databases maintained by the state. There is no question that these two statements apply to NICS in my mind. Furthermore, the NJSP does not charge us tax on the information, simply because it cannot. Now if you are in the business of selling NICS checks where the actual NICS check was the object of the sale then it would be taxable. You are not selling NICS checks you simply passing along the "fee" paid for the information, which you are allowed to do. Now in some cases FFL's are charging more for the NICS check than they are being charged. I have never asked the question but I can see an issue here if you are profiting from the NICS check. My guess would be you would be charging tax on the profit in that case. Since I don't charge more than the $15, (less for transfer's and nothing for purchases) I have no interest in answering that question or paying my accountant for advice on something I don't do. Back to business and back to the OP's topic, there was no intent to hijack this thread.

  8. Thank you for proving my point, enough said. If you set out to prove your an ass you succeeded. You don't like me because I sell directly from wholesale that''s fine, and that's really the issue here. It's not going to cost you any money to prove your point. I am willing to say it right here on the forum, I will pay for your accountant's time, out of my own pocket. You have nothing to loose and everything to gain by proving me wrong. You have "overhead" on NICS, that's special. Makes no difference to me or my customers. Same guns, lower price, great service. The american way, get use to it or don't, I don't give a crap.
  9. Well that's nice that you think this thread should be in another forum but I was simply answering a question. It's unfortunate that you choose this public forum to vent you business frustrations. The bottom line is my accountant is no better than yours is and I find it extremely difficult to believe your account received any such guidance from the IRS since their official position is that they do not provide guidance on any statue unless that statue has been challenged legally in a court of law. So simply put I am more than willing to admit that I am wrong as soon as you PM me with the name of your account so I can have my accountant contact them to verify the IRS information. That would be fair. But I believe that PM will never come. Even if I did bury the NICS tax in the price of the gun that would be irrelevant to the end user since my prices are very competitive, more so than yours, and I actually don't charge NICS for any gun purchased from me because I believe that your TAXES have paid for NICS and you should not pay for them again. It's one thing to preach Second Amendment, it's another thing to believe in it. So I don't need to make myself look good, my customers can speak to that. However I do want to clarify one thing that I find interesting. If you believe that NICS should be taxed why are you overcharging your customer for NICS. According to your web site NICS is $18.00. Well since the NJSP charges us $15 (no tax), then given %7 in NJ your NICS charge should be $16.05. Isn't 7% of $15 $0.75? Where is the other $1.95 going?
  10. This is the reference you want to read and provide to your tax accountant. Take note of the first four paragraphs specifically. http://www.state.nj....oservices.shtml Specifically collection of information which is not specifically the item being sold is not taxable. When I sell a gun on my web site the gun is the subject of the sale, not the NICS check therefore the gun is subject to tax, not the gathering of information provided by the state needed to complete the sale.
  11. Before becoming a NJ Retail Firearm Dealer the retail store I purchased from never required SS#. I never have since I have been in business and a quick check of my ON-Line NJNICS submission form clearly states "optional" under SS#. https://www.plumstedarms.com/index.php/nics_submission_form/. I believe you will find that most do not require SS# and those that do are simply trying to understand what the laws are and how to stay out of trouble. Did you know that NICS is NOT subject to tax? Some stores add tax to NICS because they are receiving incorrect advice from their "professional" accountants who always advise to error on the side of caution. Not because they are trying to lie to you or rip you off. I don't charge tax on NICS, in fact I don't charge for NICS at all if you purchase from me. That's the simplest way to avoid the tax debate on NICS NJ Gun stores are not the villains here. Most of us are trying to do the right thing and at the same time we try to provide firearms to the public in an extremely difficult environment where simple mistakes could result in significant personal legal problems up to and including jail. I am a New Jersey Gun Store by definition and in order to have lied to you "again" I need to know when have I lied to you in the first place. Why does everything always have to be a conspiracy on every level? PM me and I will provide you with a discount coupon code for my on-line store. Maybe after a positive pleasant purchase experience you might be able to trust us. We shoot guns just like you.
  12. Members only steel is October 27th, moved this month due to match conflict. See you there
  13. While it is a field on the form marked "required" it is not. The form gets processed normally without it. Probably marked that way by unknowing programmers as required but later found not to be. I guess somebody forgot to remove the asterisk.

  15. I have 6 M&P 15 Sport's arriving on Tuesday. Five are spoken for, the sixth one will go on the daily specials. The price on-line is $680 + tax, NO NICS or other fees if purchased on-line. If you are a CJRPC club member it's an additional 5% off for every purchase, and if you "like" us on Facebook or follow our Twitter link it's another 2.5% one time coupon for to be used on any purchase. Unfortunately you paid above list price for that firearm. Not unusual with some vendors.
  16. 2C:58-3.f to be exact f. Granting of permit or identification card; fee; term; renewal; revocation. The application for the permit to purchase a handgun together with a fee of $2.00, or the application for the firearms purchaser identification card together with a fee of $5.00, shall be delivered or forwarded to the licensing authority who shall investigate the same and, unless good cause for the denial thereof appears, shall grant the permit or the identification card, or both, if application has been made therefor, within 30 days from the date of receipt of the application for residents of this State and within 45 days for nonresident applicants. A permit to purchase a handgun shall be valid for a period of 90 days from the date of issuance and may be renewed by the issuing authority for good cause for an additional 90 days. A firearms purchaser identification card shall be valid until such time as the holder becomes subject to any of the disabilities set forth in subsection c. of this section, whereupon the card shall be void and shall be returned within five days by the holder to the superintendent, who shall then advise the licensing authority. Failure of the holder to return the firearms purchaser identification card to the superintendent within the said five days shall be an offense under section 2C:39-10a. Any firearms purchaser identification card may be revoked by the Superior Court of the county wherein the card was issued, after hearing upon notice, upon a finding that the holder thereof no longer qualifies for the issuance of such permit. The county prosecutor of any county, the chief police officer of any municipality or any citizen may apply to such court at any time for the revocation of such card. Here is where I believe you will run into a brick wall. The argument has been made by the state that the "New Jersey State Police" is the licensing authority and therefore they are responsible for submitting the response in 30 days, and they claim they do ("They Claim"). However the local police departments are involved prior to and after the submission and it is this part of the process that seems to be the issue around the state. For example, in my home town neither myself, my children, wife and friends that I know of have NEVER waited more than 30 days to receive permits. In most cases it's been three weeks. However in some townships I am told that the police departments are telling people it could take up to 6 months to get the permits. So what's the real problem. How can one township (and there are others) always achieve the 30 day limit while others simply do not. I can guarantee that the SP are not "picking" on townships at random so why is there such an issue? And remember, there is no law that governs how the local police process your requests. If they leave it in a folder for a clerk to do once/month, that is up to them. I doubt you will get anywhere with this but I wish you luck.
  17. Yup, only I bought the SS Media Kit from http://www.stainlesstumblingmedia.com/ about a year and a half ago. If you want to see the process in action watch their video on-line or on youtube. My brass comes out better than new every time. With my Dillon 650 and automatic case feeder I can remove the primers on the dirty cases in no time. About 3,000/hour. I put my clean cases in an Al deep pan and put them on the clothes dryer sneaker rack. Run the dryer for about 15 minutes and they are dry as a bone. I store them in containers with desiccant to keep them dry and shiny. Great system. I will never tumble with media again.
  18. Full auto was a poor choice of words. What I read was "bursts". There are plenty of forum topics on this. Here is one for example http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-666138.html I can't really disagree with the Bill Springfield reviews, frankly my experience with him from a business standpoint was also lousy. I waited a long time to get a trigger kit from him but eventually he did call me and tell me he had one to ship to me. He is somewhat arrogant and full of himself. I already had a trigger in my AR so it was not any big deal waiting. The only thing I can say about the experience is the trigger is outstanding, smooth crisp and light. I never sent any guns to him for work nor would I. But I can say his AR triggers are nice. I will put in a plug for Bruce Gray of GrayGuns in Oregon. I sent my Sig 226 Extreme to him for a full competition overhaul. All I can say is holy crap, what a beautiful job they did and the gun is outstanding. "You don't need anti-rotation pins if you installed the FCG correctly and there's nothing wrong with the FCG." Completely untrue and there are a ton of written experiences that contradict that statement. I have two AR's both of them now have Anti Rotation kits installed. Prior to that one AR NEVER experienced a pin issue, the other ALWAYS had problems no matter how many time I took it apart and replaced pins, and I am pretty sure I have assembled them both correctly. What can I say, that was my experience. My pins never walk for just a couple of bucks. I don't see the big deal anyway, most of us spend a fortune putting custom parts on our AR's, and for just around $25 you can add the pin kit. Another very helpful thing about the pin kit is the guide that screws into the pin to help you insert the pin. It goes in smooth and easy. I see a dozen AR's a month and each time I can point out what I like and don't like, what is necessary and what is not necessary. But to each his own.
  19. That is absolutely not true at all. The law states that you can release a firearm after three days following a "Pending" status if there is no further response. You must first get the pending status. This has been argued to death during the days of faxed NICS with weeks of waiting. If there is a shutdown of NICS you cannot contact them to get any status. The three days does not apply for an initial status. If NICS stops answering the phone and the computer system, if it does come up, does goes down due to a federal shutdown, I can guarantee you that no (intelligent) New Jersey dealer will be releasing firearms until NICS is back on-line.
  20. Are you talking about a Federal shutdown or a state shutdown. We have had both. It makes perfect sense that the state would shut down the NICS unit for a state shutdown but not a federal one. And a federal shutdown of NICS will bring the entire judicial system to its knees. Brady Law checks only account foe a very small amount of total traffic to the federal NICS system. The only way the state could justify shutting down NICS is if they are receiving federal funding for the NICS unit. That would be even more outrageous and infuriating. Do you know if this is the case? I don't.
  21. NICS is maintained and implemented by the FBI and it is Federal. It is also the "National Instant Criminal Background check System" meaning it handles all background checks for federal law enforcement. It is deemed "Essential" and will still be available to states like New Jersey that have chosen to be Point Of Contact (POC) states. A POC State acts as a go between, between the FBI's national system and your FFL. In a normal state, unlike NJ and actually many others, background checks are done by your FFL directly through the FBI NICS computerized and yes, "Instant" system and they are free. Your tax dollars already paid for this system. When a state chooses to be a POC state they have decided that they want to expand the federal background check to include local state records for mental health and criminal records. So when we FFL's call the NICS unit we are actually calling the State Police (not federal). The NJNICS unit is actually an arm of the State Police Firearms Investigation Unit. We provide them with your information and they perform the computerized check using the federal FBI system (instantly by the way) and they also use the state's databases to check on you. Specifically any filed mental health records and particularly state criminal activity such as domestic violence. For the privilege of the added layer of investigation we get to pay New Jersey $15. Since the State Police are not subject to the Federal shutdown, and the FBI NICS is considered ESSENTIAL as it is used nation wide for much more than just Brady Law checks, seeing a shutdown of NICS is highly unlikely since it will instantly prevent any law enforcement organization to check criminal records. NICS was not created for or implemented for the Brady Law and it existed long before the Brady Law was ever passed. NICS was adapted to be used by the ATF for FFL's based on the regulatory requirement of the Brady Law. It's a common misconception that NICS was implemented for background investigations of firearm transactions. It was not, the federal NICS system was adapted to meet the more recent requirements of the Brady Law. By The Way, Please Visit My Shop On The Web at http://www.plumstedarms.com Thank You
  22. Thanks it's been working out pretty well. Thanks to everyone that came early to help set up and helped break down. We were out in no time.
