  1. All in all, I think that sounds about right. You find a guy who you find convenient to deal with, fair priced etc and for the most part he becomes your source. So yea, it might take you a few "broadcast" attempts to find out who that might be and by the time they start to get tired of you, you probably have settled in to one vendor (or two) anyway. But we also need to remember there are other vendors in our State who choose for whatever rreason not to participate in these forums or become a contributing vendor here. I myself will give the Member Vendors a shot first though. (no pun intended!)
  2. Yea I agree and with me buying four guns, that's FOUR trips (or more) to what could be quite a ride somewhere. Speaking of "somewhere" - the vendors need to get a location listed somewhere up front and on top so we don't need to visit each one's website to see where they are located. Either a town or even County would do nicely. Would save us allot of time and effort I feel. With four guns, I think I might throw it out there to see who has the best deal, Then I can decide if it's still "a deal" with all the time and travel involved...
  3. I wonder if I wouldn't be better off listing my "wants" in the WTB marketplace instead. reason being, I am looking for a deal - a real deal on a commitment for four pistols, one a month over four months with deposits for each in advance. If someone were to offer me a good deal on the package then I would be willing to commit with my $$. Anyone think that might work? Of course, the FFL would need to be able to source all four handguns with the last one being a bit hard to find from what I hear, hard but not impossible although I do have an easier to find alternate just in case for number four. Thoughts? Or maybe I'll suggest the package deal in a request to the "Firearms Price Request" form. I'd like someone to step up with a really good price for all four. I'm expecting my permits in a few short weeks. Like I said earlier, I'd like to give someone all my business - in return of course for a better price, especially when negotiated as a package deal.
  4. And since these places / guys are all independent of one another, how would anyone know if or where I purchased? (Say there's 20 vendors on that list, I can only potentially buy from one right? So 19 others will diss me next time??) Anyway, maybe just another good reason to ignore this right from the get go then.
  5. Well maybe I'll give it "a go" and try it out, using a false phone number of course. Provide the price and availability, and then I'll call you (them.) Like I said earlier, I'd like to find a place I can trust and frequent for repeat purchases.
  6. That's exactly why I think I'm going to shop on my own, incognito so to speak. I dislike giving out my personal information (name and phone number) freely to destinations unknown. While the idea in principal is a good one, I somehow doubt it will net you your best price anyway. Certainly it may help with "availability" though. Besides once I find and decide on a seller, I will try to remain loyal for repeat purchases, given a fair price of course.
  7. Who exactly will receive my request for a firearms price? (Sorry if this is postedd somewhere but I looked around and didn't see any explanations.) I'm just wondering before I use this feature, especially since it requires personal information from me. How many vendors will receive it? Who are they? Are they stores or private FFL holders?
  8. And then there's the "Performance Series" above the PRO and costs hundreds more too. Too much confusion as the Performance Series is the one with the 'crowned muzzle." S&W needs to do a much better job with their website because this is all quite confusing. They need to include a link to a full pdf catalog on line. 1911 1911-E SW1911 (PRO Series) SW1911 Performance Series (which looks identical to the PRO) ?? the only big difference they point out is the price. FWIW I like the looks of the "E" series but really wanted to find either a .40 cal or 9mm 1911 with ambidexterous safety (since I'm a lefty). Para-USA makes one in .40 cal., Taurus make one in 9mm too. I was trying to stick with S&W though.
  9. Hey, whatever blows your skirt up...
  10. I'd love to see both Hickok45 and brandon401401 in a contest shoot-out. Both those boys can SHOOT but I do think Brandon has the edge. For reviews, Hickok45 can't be beat though and even though he's a big fan of Glocks (especially the compact and sub-compact models) he is fair and open minded when reviewing guns from other manufacturers too.
  11. Can someone please explain the differences between the S&W 1911E series and the SW1911 Pro Series? (Other then caliber I mean.) Seems to me that S&W makes three grades of the 1911 The low end model is a no brainer but it's hard to tell (by looking at S&Ws website) which is the better pistol, the "E" series or the "Pro" series? What are the big differences there? I think I may be leaning towards a Pro model 1911 chambered in 9mm, so that would make selection a moot point. Still, I'd like to understand the differences before I truly decide.
  12. They are "going" (home for the season)... LOL
  13. I get a whole flock of em' (usually at least 30 at a time) about 2-3 times a month in my back yard. Deer several times daily there too.
  14. How does the "E" Series compare to the SW1911 Pro Series from S&W? I assume the PRO models are better? (But yea, that sure does look sweet!)

  16. Courtesy of "Wikipedia" "Current status Winchester discontinued the Black Talon line completely in 2000. The “Ranger SXT” ammunition sold later by Winchester is very similar to the Black Talon though without the black Lubalox coating on the bullet. Among shooters, a running joke is that SXT stands for “Same eXact Thing", though the official branding is “Supreme eXpansion Technology”. However, there are differences in the anatomy of the bullets which become apparent when carefully examined side by side. The hollow point cavity dimensions and angles of the meplat were altered to enhance reliability of expansion, though the basic "reverse taper" design unique to the Black Talon was retained. This "reverse taper" refers to the bullet's jacket being thicker at the tip than toward the base, enhancing rigidity which allows the sharp petals to remain largely perpendicular to the wound path, unlike traditional designs where the expanding jacket petals would peel back almost completely behind the expanded lead mushroom. This difference is obvious after firing into ballistic gelatin.[13] In 2007 Winchester updated their Ranger SXT line and renamed it Ranger T-Series. Besides further dimensional changes to the hollow point for reliable expansion, the trademark perpendicular petals were made longer yet more rounded at the tips to retain stiffness. PDX1 In 2009 Winchester-Olin released a new hollow point bullet in its Supreme Elite line of handgun ammunition called the Bonded PDX1.[14] It is similar to the Ranger SXT series and, therefore, the older Black Talon line in its structure, and is available in several calibers and loadings. The most obvious difference from the SXT is that the bonded design, meant to maintain structural integrity through difficult intermediate barriers like auto-glass, largely prevents the sharp petals from peeling away from the lead core and fully protruding into the wound track. The .40 S&W PDX1 cartridge is the primary service ammunition of the FBI.[15] The PDX1 series is also available for purchase by civilian shooters. Further, there is no law that prohibits civilians from buying ammunition marked "Law Enforcement", which some of the Ranger line has printed on the box (as do other lines of ammunition)."
  17. From what I understand, they're not illegal in themselves except that NJ Law pertaining to all hollow point ammo does apply. (Illegal to carry it, not to own it or use it at the range etc.) Hard to find yet not impossible to buy still. However, I myself wouldn't use it as a HD round since it could mean opening the door to additional law suits by the perp (or his surviving family etc.) for using a deadly round only intended for LEOs today. I'd rather chamber something that was more accepted as the norm and there's plenty of choices on the market. (I like Corbon DPX myself). Of course this is all just my opinion on the subject.
  18. New Comparison - Handgun "Stopping Power" http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/printable/node/7866 QUOTE "Conclusion This study took me a long time and a lot of effort to complete. Despite the work it took, I'm glad I did it. The results I got from the study lead me to believe that there really isn't that much difference between most defensive handgun rounds and calibers. None is a death ray, but most work adequately...even the lowly .22s. I've stopped worrying about trying to find the "ultimate" bullet. There isn't one. And I've stopped feeling the need to strap on my .45 every time I leave the house out of fear that my 9mm doesn't have enough "stopping power." Folks, carry what you want. Caliber really isn't all that important. Take a look at the data. I hope it helps you decide what weapon to carry. No matter which gun you choose, pick one that is reliable and train with it until you can get fast accurate hits. Nothing beyond that really matters!"
  19. Not at all, I just chose to reply about one bear and not the other.
  20. Sure, because you're more likely to be attacked by a brown bear (grizzley) then a black bear but still the smaller black bear will be intent on killing you if he does attack. At that point it's a fight to the death. The grizzley may well kill you too but it is well documented that if you submit and cover up (because you cant escape) he may give up the fight and walk away. Good thing for us that black bears are so predictable.
  21. I disagree. Yes Black bear attacks are rather rare but still once they do decide to attack they will attack until either you or they are dead. You can submit to a Grizzley (roll over fetal, play dead etc) and chances are he might quit and leave you alone but not a Black bear. Once your in a fight with a Black bear it's for life - yours or his!
  22. Can you imagine what the PRESS might have done with this story? They might have twisted it into "another school shooting avoided (or prevented)" etc.
