  1. Kevin125, If you are interested in the background to the proposed changes regarding "justifiable need" it was related to a report commissioned by the Govenor. I actually have two podcast episodes devoted to exploring its expected impact. One with Scott Bach immediately after the report was released and another, in more detail with Dan Schmutter a week later. URLs below http://www.beararmsshow.com/nj-governor-issues-report-on-gun-laws-scott-bachs-analysis/ http://www.beararmsshow.com/daniel-schmutter-dives-deep-into-justifiable-need/ The questions will likely be formulated so as not to be asking for legal advice. The concept is to stay along the lines of inquiring about their role in various processes, the guidance they issue officers, etc.
  2. Fair enough. Its true that some of the questions that have been proposed aren't within the scope of the FIU. There are many questions that we believe are, in particular, those related to the processes for NJ's NICS POC, PPP and FID forms, etc. The intent behind inviting them was to create an opportunity to learn more about their role and perspective. They asked for questions, so I put that out to the community because I know I wouldn't come up with all the good questions. I will also note that we will have several lawyers speaking on topics of interest to gun owners, including Daniel Schmutter and Evan Nappen. I hope you will be joining us in July too.
  3. You should bring some hollow nose too, you know, for comparison. ;-) (Everyone, please do NOT bring any ammo) On a serious note, I agree that it should be a helpful session.
  4. So rape wouldn't necessarily end, it would just be resolved by killing the victim.... seems legit. /sarc
  5. They will have time to develop a response to any of the questions we send. The intent in getting questions is that we will forward them before the conference to help them prepare a presentation that addresses those they can address. Based on my review of what I have been seeing here and on Facebook, there are some I expect will be outside their scope of expertise. But we have many good questions that I am eager to hear addressed.
  6. So far, it looks like we have some really good questions and examples related to the interpretation/application of the "Assault Weapons" Ban (Evil features and firearms banned by name), Reasonable Deviation, and the Permitting Process. As this is the Firearms Unit of NJSP I expect the focus of the questions is going to be on practical application by officers and the guidance that they provide other agencies. Are there any big areas I missed? Others we should add?
  7. Last year we were using multiple cameras, it's going to be pretty obvious, haha Last year's conference is available on our vimeo page, video.njsafecon.net There are a couple of videos that are free, and others available for rent or purchase.
  8. Hello, We reached out to the State Police Firearms Investigation Unit to join us at the SAFE Conference this year. They want to know what they should be prepared to talk about, and asked us to send them some questions. So, if you have a question for the NJSP Firearms Unit, please post it below or email it to [email protected] Thanks!
  9. Hope to see you there. Good luck! Fantastic! Will see you there! We will start adding exhibitors to the website soon. I expect we will continue to add them up until just before the conference. Getting registration up was one of the first priorities.
  10. Conference registration is active! Please visit the link below to get signed up. In addition to the conference on July 30th at the Hilton Parsippany, we are offering a CLE course on July 29th at Montville Executive Suites. It will feature instruction from Evan Nappen and Andrew Branca. This course can simply be added to your conference registration. Here is the link http://www.cvent.com/d/qfq103 Hope to see you all there!
  11. Great Question! I expect we will be launching the registration site on March 1st. Pre-registration is highly recommended.
  12. I visited the hotel the week after Christmas, and the Ruth's Chris was delicious. Getting a room at the Hilton around the time of the conference will be difficult as they are hosting the PGA tour there that weekend. (Actually a benefit for us since that meant they weren't looking to us to fill rooms as part of our deal). There are several nice hotels very close. (Within about 5 miles) If there is interest, maybe we can arrange a block at one of them.
  13. Hi guys. This weekend we announced NJ SAFE Conference will be held on July 30th 2016 at the Hilton Parsippany. By popular demand we are bringing the conference to North Jersey! That is all the information that we have to share right now. Save the date!
  14. Rosey and the folks at CNJFO are great. I donated to the Justifiable Need project last year. Probably time to pitch in a little more.
  15. Based on my interviews with Bach and Schmutter, "Justifiable Need" was defined in regulations by the NJSP, they are limited in defining it by how the courts have interpreted it. The recent proposal to change the definition seeks to expand the definition in the regulation to match how the courts interpreted it. Unfortunately this means that the notion that the Govenor is free to redefine "need" as he sees fit is inaccurate. That doesn't excuse his actions that have previously hurt 2A here, but if implemented, it will hopefully provide a crack we can exploit.
  16. Hi guys! Glad to see you found my interview with Dan Schmutter helpful. It was largely premised on the interview in our prior episode with Scott Bach. Scott and I recorded the day the report was released, so it was his first impressions of the report. If you are on iTunes, and could rate the show or leave a review, it would be really helpful! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/bear-arms-show-2nd-amendment/id952321277?mt=2 Thanks!
  17. Hi! If you listen to this week's Gun for Hire Radio episode you will hear me talking about how planing has begun for the next NJ SAFE Conference. I have received a lot of great feedback from the first conference, but am very interested in hearing what member's of the community here would like to see at the next one. So far, I can tell you that the projected date of the conference is going to be this summer and the location will be somewhere north of Edison. If you have any suggestions or feedback, let me know. I look forward to chatting with you and making this event better than the first!
  18. Thanks for all the great comments. Since this is the inaugural conference, I feel that the focus should remain on members of New Jersey's 2A community. That the conference would work as a forum for local voices is important. I understand the notion that we might have heard from some of these folks before, but the fact is they are the most knowledgeable about the problems we face and are the most engaged in fixing them. The content of the conference is designed to engage attendees at a couple of different levels. First, there will be some basic safety training available for those who are interested. Second, there is obviously an abundance of content for those who are engaged in the fight for the Second Amendment here in the state. Third, there is an element that is designed to present a narrative to the media. I recommend registering online if possible, there is a limit to our space and we have sold about 25% of the tickets available already. Also proud to note that the Bullet Hole has joined us as a sponsor. I will be checking back for more comments and questions. Thanks!
  19. Hi everyone, I know that I tend to occasionally lurk here more than anything else, but wanted to let those of you who haven't heard of it know about a conference I am putting together. It is the New Jersey Second Amendment and Firearms Education Conference. It's happening in Vineland NJ on October 3rd. The event will run from 10:00 to 6:00. The idea is to have a conference with an exhibitor space too. We are gonna have all kinds of speakers and panelists. Scott Bach, Evan Nappen, Anthony Colandro, & Dan Schmutter are among our presenters. Our list of panelists includes Shaneen Allen, Steffon Josey, Arys Daniela, & Tony Simon. I am really trying to get every part of the NJ Second Amendment community involved. Among our exhibitors/sponsors we have Gun for Hire LLC., RTSP, Henry Repeating Arms, Firearms Support and Storage, CNJFO, and Beacon Brass. I think we are putting together a fantastic event and hope to see many of you there (some I know are already registered). For more info please see NJSafeCon.net or email me at [email protected] Thanks!
