Ruptured/slipped/herniated discs are the same. However the severity of pain depends on where the disc is and how much it is pressing against the nerve. As I said before, surgery should be the last option.  However, @panteramatt seems to have chronic pain and has exhausted other options (presumptive). Typically, recovering from a herniated disc requires rest, modalities and corrective exercise. But how many of us have the time? His situation is exacerbated by his job. A mechanic puts themselves in precarious positions that don’t always allow the use of proper body mechanics.
Very tough position to be in and choice to make.

couldnt have said it better myself

If you are willing to postpone surgery a little while longer, check out www.egoscue.com and the book Pain Free.  I had similar pain over 10 years ago, and they worked wonders for me.  While my back is tight at times, I have not had a recurrence of the acute pain that you are experiencing.  If you want more info, feel free to pm me.

Thanx bud but I just got done all my tests and xrays. Plus since the disc is ruptured Im not sure how anything but surgury will work at this point

    I can agree with you.

Our health care system is a joke. However the racism and ignorance of some members is another insight into how lousy parenting is still rampant. I know if my child was having surgery, especially if it was a planned procedure, I wouldn’t show up at the hospital with my head up my culo.

As for the OP, I feel for your situation. Spinal surgery should be a last resort after exhausting other methods to rid yourself of back pain. Whether you’re getting a laminotomy or laminectomy, you will have a long road to recovery. Depending on your coverage you’ll be allotted only so much rehab time. Once that’s over I would think finding a dedicated program like yoga (or some other trunk strengthening regimen) would be in your best interest. I would also suggest speaking to your rehab team about TENS / ESTIM to alleviate the pain, promote tissue growth and avoid dependence on prescription pain meds. Best of luck.

Thanx Zabuca. Ive suffered from lower back pain forever and have arthritus in both knees and Im a mechanic so its only going to get worse. I dont depend on pain meds at all and I dont have an addictive personality so it dont scare me. And I agree I will need to strenthen my lower body when this is done and I have a good tens unit. I tried not to get the surgury but the mri showed its too far gone not to

But if you were Hispanic it would all be done for free! I blew-up at Robert Wood Johnson one day when taking my daughter in for surgery. They DEMANDED a credit card to cover the deductible which we knew nothing about until that day. I looked around at all the fucking illegals and asked who the fuck was paying for THEIR surgeries! Yeah, I was real popular that day, screw them! Democraps just handing out all of our tax dollars and we get shit upon, what a system! Good luck with your troubles.

Work harder millions on welfare depend on you!

  5. Yea sciaitica sucks man. My whole right side is pins and needles. Ive been out of work since late march since I tried different was of getting better but the mri showed how bad it is. Just sucks cause its digging into my new house funds Ive been saving up for a long time

  6. Ive battled pain in my back for years but I never go to the dr for anything. Well my lower disc ruptured and I have sciatica now so surgery is required. Just for a consultation cost ME $700! MRI $600! Other tests $1000 and I havent even had my surgery yet! Blows my mind how much employers and employees have pay every check and it dont cover squat! Our healthcare is one of the biggest scams! Anyone else run into this? I just dont understand how they expect you to afford to get healthy.

Why would anyone discriminate against a camper? Some people live out of campers permanently - how would they know the difference? I think you're thinking overtime. They might stop domestic flights at some point, but I can't imagine stopping domestic travel. I say keep the reservations... and then see what's happening a few days before.

Well its next week and from what I understand is you can only be on the road if your going to work or getting groceries, medicine. Obviously me driving a big camper with a golf cart on the back dont meet that criteria thats why Im asking.

  8. So Ive booking camping spots for 3 weekend in april alone. 2 in Pa and 1 in NJ. As far as I know no campgrounds are shutting down just no planned activities. So, is it illegal for me to travel with a camper to get there? Id have to go through Delaware also. I saw 2 motorhomes on the Delaware today so not sure.

  9. Not in flood zone. I actually liove in a flood zone right now which sucks as far as insurance. What do ya mean is Salem any better? I dont live in Salem but outside. Everyone that lives in the farming communities around heres address is Salem.

  10. Do you think itll just need too much? I mean they want 99k and it has 7 acres and several outbuildings that I need. As a matter of a fact those 2 things are the only reason I wanna move. But it seems like I wont be able to get this done the way I want for $100k

Have you had a home inspector look at it?

Not yet, I just got approved for the loan yesterday. My issue is I dont wanna spend thousands for all the inspections and find i cant get the house built the way I want anyway and loose out on the $.

  12. Ok maybe I should give a little more info and you guys can help me decide. The house is a cape cod, kitchen and living room too small. Upstairs is perfect but I wont be up there anyway. Smells musty so there could be mold. I LOVE the property and it has the garage I need and several outbuildings. Taxes arent bad either. I would have $100k to do repairs for GC. I COULD add more but I dont want to right now.

  13. Well like I said its damp, there was a little puddling but that could be from several things.

You don’t jus go knocking walls down willy nilly. Sometimes they actually hold stuff above. What ever # is the top of your budget, double it. Sorry

Yes I understand load bearing walls

  14. Im looking at a house to purchase that needs a little work. It needs a 203k loan so there wont be endless funds. I looked at the house and the downstairs is too small and th ebasement had a little water which made the downstairs smell musty. Now Im hoping the basement was only wet due to power being off, bad gutters, internal leak, or something small as I didnt see any signs of cracks but who knows. So basically I would NEED the bottom bedrooms wall knocked out to make one large room, the kitchen and living room wall knocked out to make a large kitchen, and a living room added to the front of the house. Am I getting too far ahead here? I dont need a huge living room maybe 14' off the front of the house then the width of the house thats maybe 24'. Any tips, help, or off the top of your head estimates would REALLY help me with this decision and would be greatly appreciated. House is in South Jersey 08079 area.

  15. Thats right. Ive roughed it for years and screw that anymore. Everytime I tented it rained all weekend. Dont get me wrong we still go out primitive every now and then but Im too old for that crap all the time anymore. Rather have my stereo and blender pumping. Plus I own a primitive cabin in 2 states when I wanna get in touch with nature.

  16. Thanks guys those are great ideas but at another time. Im talking about camping with my 28ft camper but hiking close by. After a long day of hiking im relaxing in the AC. So far im looking at blue rocks and mountain springs resort in Pa.
