  1. I'm wondering if anyone can affirm how I am reading the (lousy) NJ Statutes regarding rifle and shotgun legal length parameters. Shotgun barrel - no less than 18 inches? Rifle barrel - no less than 16 inches? Overall length for BOTH long guns - no less than 26 inches? Thanks in advance.
  2. Many thanks, and as usual great recommendations!
  3. Thanks. I've got that already.
  4. probably between Beretta 9mm or S&W 686
  5. I am a newly “awarded” FID holder and will be purchasing my first pistol in the upcoming weeks. I would respectfully accept all of your experienced recommendations of what to purchase on several accessories that I think I will need to accommodate my firearm….and future firearm acquisitions. 1-CLEANING KITS I would like to have one kit that will clean various calibers, and types of firearms from handguns to long guns. 2-TOOL KITS What do I need, what should I get or have if necessary for disassembly/adjustments/sights etc…once again universal for various calibers, and types of firearms from handguns to long guns. 3-SAFE STORAGE OK. I know this category can be very dependent on an individual’s needs/desires…..but my partner and I live alone and don’t have children. I also don’t want the “shit bags” to steal our firearms should we ever get robbed (so help them if they try to rob us while we’re home). Your advanced experience in these areas would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Just took First Steps Pistol Friday afternoon. Rob was outstanding, the class was fantastic, and GunForHire is #1 in my book.

  7. WOW!! Obviously a wealth of information and opinion from everyone. Thanks for replying to my initial question. You all make some very thought provoking points to consider. My research… A firearm IS a very “individual” thing. So I concur that it would be a good idea to try and fire as many different types as possible. I will try to get to Shore Shot to rent and experience. But if not I understand that GunForHire offers the ability to fire different types when taking their First Steps Pistol course (which I’m taking). My preliminary reading and research lead me to question the two choices between the S&W and the Beretta (because I know me-what I think I can handle-what I think I'd like). I also wanted to offer myself the choice between a wheel and a semi, and like I said you have all made points regarding both that I hadn’t thought about. So now I have more to think about LOL. So what am I going to get? Jury is still out…. Later mates!
  8. Thanks for the feedback folks! Well....GFH it is. First steps pistol-I'm going to book right now for my spouse and myself.
  9. Thanks for the warm welcomes from everyone! I'm not much of a "poster", but I do alot of reading - and there is a ton of info here! Great Forum! I know I'll be responding to many of you....and I guess that’s how the conversations start. Please feel free to drop me a message anytime, or reply to a post. I'm a very open person (at least I like to think so) and I'll never take ANYTHING anyone says personally. It is a forum after all, and this is how our country was born....the open discussion of ideas, feelings, beliefs, opinions........ Not sure which range I'll be frequenting, but sure to meet many of you in the future. SpecialK - thanks for the invite but I don't drink alcohol, however a cranberry & club will do. autoxnyc - thanks for the offer with the WOPD. My paperwork has been submitted for about a month now with no evident issues-prints are in also. Now I guess I just have to wait the "90 days" (that's how long the officer said they have to investigate and make a decision). XDJohnTact - former teacher here and MSU alumni also. Profession didn't work out too well for me but the education was great. Student teaching Bloomfield district. BTW I see you can reply to multiple quotes at once...how? (damn newbies!!) Later mates!
  10. Who would you recommend more for a first introductory course in pistol use/handling? New Jersey Firearms Academy or GunForHIre? I am a “newbie” and have only fired a .22 and an M16 when I was in the military over 25 years ago. I really would like to start off right.
  11. As I await my firearms permit I have been researching what my first firearm purchase is going to be. I know I want a handgun to start, as my desire is for protection and defense for my spouse and me. I have 2 types narrowed down between a revolver and a semi-automatic. REVOLVER Smith & Wesson 686 Plus line (.357) SEMI-AUTOMATIC Beretta 92 Series (9mm) What does anyone think?
  12. Hello everyone. I’ve been lingering around a bit and finally felt it time to make the first post and greeting. Af ter many years of wanting to become a firearms owner, I have taken personal action and am now awaiting my firearms permit. This forum seems like it contains a wealth of information and advice, and I look forward to learning and sharing a great deal with so many of you who share the same interest as myself. With that being said I just want to personally say that I try not to take myself too seriously (although I do take firearms VERY seriously). So I believe that a forum such as this should not only be about learning and sharing knowledge/experience/opinion – but also about having fun. So I look forward to a happy and long relationship with my fellow firearms owners! I do have 2 questions to start, but I will post them in the appropriate sections. Now…off to the boards to read and research.
