  1. Ehh…my post probably could have been a little more concise anyway. We've all been in the “funk” so I hear you on that. My gf loves to inform me when I'm in one of my own- trust me. I’ll take you up on that coffee or beer next time I’m up in near your neck of the woods. Thanks.
  2. You missed the point. Question came from seeing LEO’s putting .40 HP rounds into the chest cavity of an already suffering deer and it did not die very quickly, which was in the original post. Of course, a head shot or anything to obliterate the CNS would be lights out. But seeing LEO’s go for the chest instead of the head made me wonder if a .40 HP wouldn’t reliably penetrate the skull of a deer…maybe it’s a lot denser than a human’s….I don’t know….hence the question of round and placement. Thought maybe a .40 HP will not reliably penetrate the skull, which is why the 2 instances I saw were “boiler room” shots with that round, bc a .40 HP is what they had to work with. Nah, I’m not offended. But when you say that my post smells trollish while your own previous responses were pretty inflammatory….."ummm....OK.." and “seems like a dumb ass question”, I’m going to raise an eyebrow to that. It’s all good though. Yes they have, but thanks for the thorough response.
  3. Who cares what you have a problem with. If you don't don't like the topic, post somewhere else.
  4. Ha, I see a pattern here. Like my post said....I've seen deer hit and mangled and, while I'm not crying, I do feel bad for something that's in bad shape and scared sh^tless. On only a couple of occasions I've seen the LEO on scene and each time they've fired a round or two from their HG (which tend to be .40 HP), the deer was not dispatched very quickly. Just out of curiosity I was wondering if a .40 HP was pretty ineffective for dispatching a hurt deer. Also wasn't sure about skull penetration on a deer with a HP round since on both occasions, I saw the LEO place rounds near the heart rather than the head.
  5. It's a hypothetical...I don't intend on driving with my HG loaded and in a holster just waiting to dispatch deer.
  6. "Another reason why I'm more respectful and sensitive to animals than your average person." Meaning I tend to have more respect for animals than I do for your average person. I'll prob catch some heat for that, but whatever. Is what it is.
  7. Another reason why I'm more respectful and sensitive to animals than your average person. From my end, it's more of the "oh sh&t" feeling when I see the collision or see the thing suffering. And then there's seeing someone clock one and just keep on driving w/o even making a call. In a perfect world, the thing would be done right then and there, but deer are really rugged. Just got me to thinking about the most effective methods/calibers. To add on to that, I wasn't really sure just how thick a deer's skull was and if a HP would have no issue whatsoever penetrating.
  8. I wasn't sure if a hollow point round would penetrate the skull of a deer or not.
  9. I hate seeing an animal get hit and I hate it even more when they're not killed right away by the impact. It's almost ironic to those who know me since I am not considered an overly sensitive or emotional man when it comes to dealing with the average person. In any event: Is there a round that's efficient for putting a deer down as quickly as possible? Most LE seem to carry .40 HP around here and from what I've seen, it's not very efficient for that particular task. They usually put one in the chest and it's tough to see it writhe around pretty wildly for what seems to be an eternity. Before I catch any heat for that, I am aware that deer are not LE's first priority in selection of caliber. I'm just curious as to the best round and the best placement for putting one down asap.
  10. I never heard of this sanctuary, but I'm happy to see someone doing something for these animals. I'll be sure to donate to that organization. I hate to see animal sightings like this one in Bergen County. It's just another result of over-developing. These animals are more scared than we are.
  11. So I got around to picking up my first handgun last week. Went with a gen 4 glock 19. I almost wanted to hate the glock since I know a couple of fanboys who make me roll my eyes all of the time. But, after renting a dozen different guns at a few ranges, the gen 4 19 just felt right and I shot well with it. It came down to about 3 pistols, but the glock took it for me. Few newb questions: 1. I went ahead and field stripped it to clean and lube. I lightly went over it since it was obviously pretty clean, but I swabbed the barrel, hit the frame innards with a nylon brush and rubbed it out with q-tip + alcohol and lubed the 6 points without removing the anti-seaze from the factory. I used CLP to lube and I went ahead and rubbed the outside of the slide with CLP to get rid of any fingerprints. What do you guys use to wipe down the outside of your slides? Do you use whatever oil you are lubing with? 2. Is it good to shoot various types of ammo in a new gun (115, 124, 147 gr.....+p etc.) or does it not really matter? 3. I noticed that when loading the mag, once I hit about 10 rounds, every even count, there's something knocking around in there when I shake he mag back and forth. Odd count= doesn't do it. Ex- 12 rounds the mag makes noise like something is rattling around. 13th round goes in- tight. 14- rattles, 15- tight. I tried it on all 3 mages it came with and it's the same thing. Do any of you glock owners have the same thing?? I'll post some pics when I have a chance.
  12. Just saw that Somerset CFGPA isn't accepting new members. Looks like I'll be heading for another home range.
