  1. MATT1751.. 12 hours on 3 gals? that's just 4 hours a gallon.. i think that's low from what i've been researching.. is that on full draw?
  2. THREAD DRIFT. the poor guy just wanted to know about different designations.. i think that's a reasonable rookie question.. M3 vs M4.. etc etc. sound like he is knowledgable to know the pros/cons of buy vs build.. but when you buy you get bombarded with the abbreviations..
  3. I think the main part of this thread was the issue of a distinction between DRIVING AROUND with a handgun vs a long gun (for self defense in the chaos). We all know you cannot randomly DRIVE AROUND with a handgun because of subsection "g". (reasonable to or from rule). But with long guns the concensus is if you have an FID you can drive anywhere you want with a long gun (unloaded of course) as long as its "secured, tied, fastened". I think if its in the trunk and you get hijacked on the road its useless. But in its gun case, in the backseat (unloaded) i feel more comfortable. The million dollar question when you pull up to get gas and the NJSP is checking your license plate and then peers in the backseat and says "Now where are you doing with that?!?" then you better be damn sure you are quoting the law to him correctly. I highly doubt he's going to say "have a nice day".
  4. Vince Lombardi on Turnpike is like a ten minute wait. I'm serious.
  5. Does anybody know is the Pennsylvania gas stations off or Route 80 are open 24 hours? I may go late night tonight.. but if i get out there and they are closed i'm am royally F-ed. Because i'm pretty much committing my gas to that drive.. probably wouldnt make it back. Its 1 hour drive one way.. And why would people in flanders wait in long lines they are so close to PA??
  6. Lugnutz.. i won't buy a cheap chinese generator.. i will buy a Honda EU or Yamaha generator and then add the US Carburetor bolt on NG conversion.. there's are tons of videos and reviews of satisfied customrers..
  7. I've spent an hour researching online the products from US Carburetor.. there are dozens and dozens of positive feedback about their natural gas "bolt-ons" to ANY size generator.. so i'm thinking buying the 2k or 3k watt portable and adding the NG bolt on.. at least this way it comes with me whenever i move..
  8. ahhhhh Vlad.. the old hook and lateral.. mmmm.. i understand it.. so we had it right then.. handgun in trunk and don't deviate.. but long guns okay in any party of the car (unloaded) as long as with FID. Sorry.. i know its been said a thousand times.. i just got crazy reading the Nappen book. and follow up: i know this has been asked before.. "is loaded magazine" considered loaded? NO. If i have a sling on the shotgun and it has shells on the sling.. is that loaded? I believe NO. (but that's pushing the issue i bet). so 12 gauge with sling with shells in back seat under a towel.. there, that's the scenario.
  9. So from all i've absorbed from this site i was pretty confident that long gun transportation was pretty much fair game if you had the FID and this from the FAQ on this site affirmed that: Where Can You Transport If you have a FID card you can essentially transport a long gun at any time, there are no real restrictions on transportation. the above was always used for the frequent question "can i stop to get food after hunting?" or "we were shooting our rifles and didnt go directly home after that.." Feedback from the community was always "long guns are okay to drive around with".. So as i'm considering traveling in automobile with shotgun in the back (unloaded of course) as the Sh*t is totally hitting the fan right now with the gasoline situation.. I just now took out my Evan Nappen book copyright 2009 edition and on page 173 Transportation of Firearms: Automobile: (2) How does a person legally transport a rifle or shotgun in New Jersey? Answer.. It is unlawful to possess. rifle or shotgun "without first having obtained NJ FID..etc etc"... "Exemptions are hunting, place of business..etc etc.." "Furthermore, rifles and shotguns must be transported pursuant to subsection g. of NJS 2C:39-6" (bold added by me) ---------------------------- Now 2C39-6 subsection g is the EXACT SAME RULES FOR HANDGUNS. 1) unloaded 2) closed fastened case or package or trunk 3) the course of travel shall include only such deviations as are reasonably necessary..etc.. (bold added by me). So is Nappen wrong? I was pretty sure the Board concensus is that long guns can be driven anywhere. Nappen sounds clear on this.
  10. guys.. didnt want this thread to be about "whole house" units. And not about $2, $3,. or $4 thousand units. I was hoping to hear about smaller portable units that were mini size.. 2k, 3k watts if they were availabe in propane or nat gas. the goal here is not MORE POWER.. the goal is NEVER RUN OUT OF GAS.
  11. You are a rock star.. you want an ENTIRE day of shooting? i once did a 3-ish hour class.. about 400 rounds and i was mentally exhausted at the end. I couldnt keep focus and really wasnt gaining anything after that point. I guess you like the stamina aspect of it but i had hit my overload after that much concentration.
  12. I think you only need the number of experienced people there for the same number of "beginners" that would have a loaded gun in their hand. 20 person event with only one shooting at a time, easy to moderate. 20 person event with 4 or 5 weapons in hands, a dangerous idea. Most basic pistol/rifle classes have multiple people with only one instructor, but there is only one gun used at a time. Just think about it this way, at any shooting competition with veteran shooters STILL only one weapon is loaded in the entire place!
  13. everybody knows about the "whole house" natural gas ones that run $10k or $20k. Someone told me a smaller portable size natural gas generator is available? This would solve the gasoline issue, right? If you had a natural gas line run for your grill could you just tap into that? Or propane generators? andbody have any examples? Is this reasonable to look into?
  14. I bet i know exactly how/why that happened. The generator is close to the house to shield it from the rain and or neighbors.. the window is open because that is how the extension cord is run into the house. How do i know this? Because that's exactly how i had mine. I guess i am lucky i survived it. Next time i will insulate the crack open in the window.
  15. i've thought about this for many years.. i believe the best option is to get multiple 5 gallons cans for various reasons: 1) the dange of having 30 gallons in one container. 2) transportation.. do you know how heavy 30 gallons is? its much easier to move 5 gallons. 3) disposal. when your power comes back on its easier to dispurse the smaller cans. I believe the ulimate set up is about four 5 gallon jugs and buy the siphon THAT WORKS for removing from your gas tank.
  16. http://www.theinverterstore.com/1500-watt-modified-sine-inverter-charger.html
  17. by charger i mean that after the battery you are using is drained, if you can run 120V back into it (via a generator which i have) then it will recharge the battery you are using.. so the goal would be 6 hours generator, 6 hours battery, and vice versa.. its $299. TheInverterStore has a video on it.. perfect for sump pumps.. but anyway.. if i lose power nobody will be able to reach out to me anyway..
  18. if anybody has a 1500 watt power inverter (with charge built in).. if you survive this mess and your house is safe afterward and you want to sell the inverter.. reach out to me..
  19. they are evacuating you by boat or truck from your residence because of the flood. You bring a backpack with you. In that backpack you have your wallet, maybe a change of clothes, important house documents.. and your PISTOL. If cops find it (for whatever reason).. you think the judge throws the book at you? Or lets you off? Survey says???
  20. nah... my last ammo purchase took like 10 days including a weekend..
  21. What the heck is the parking situation going to be? there is practically none.. Park on the other side of the light and walk with your range bag 100 yards to the building? Is that felony?
  22. looks like there are two "distinct" sections for the range... like there's a concrete wall seperating two other rooms.. maybe a room for rifle shooting and room for pistols? I dunno.. maybe its just storage.. and honestly i think that wouldnt be such a bad idea.. a room for rifles/shotguns and a room for pistols.. my ears would thank me later.. don't have a clue how long the inside will take to get done.. but i will tell you they were moving cinder blocks today (on a saturday).
  23. okay i'm kind of embarressed.. with my first cleaning kit i just used the "black" barrel brush that came in the Hoppes kit. I wanted another barrel brush so i ordered a 3 brush set off amazon. One brush is orange/brown (copper or brass?) the 2nd brush is nylon? and there is a cloth brush. what are the uses/purposes of the two different brushes? (brown/orange vs the black). Is there an order to use them in? Is it for different ammo? i'm confused
  24. woops let me clarify.. incoming not meaning its on order already..i meant if i do buy incoming to FFL.. and they see that the flash suppressor makes it an "evil" violation what does the FFL do? return? tell me they will keep but they must fix? What happens when an evil feature gets sent inadvertently?
