  1. Since most states don't have restrictions on flash suppressors, (or i'd even assume that people that live in states without these laws even know the intricacies of the differences).. what happens when a NJ person orders or buys from out of state and it gets to the FFL and the FFL says "that my friend is a flash suppressor and i cannot let you take this." does the FFL reject the incoming immediately? Or does he keep it and notify you that if you want to take it he has to modify it first? I guess the scenario is you bought something out of state that you thought was legal, but it gets to NJ and it is not.
  2. ahhhh.. so GlennP says shoulder to the dominant eye.. so there is a "technique" to the both eyes open.. i was just wondering if i focus with my dominant eye or focus the sight with both eyes.
  3. Was getting some tips for clay shooting vs pistol target shooting.. First mistake i was making was trying to hit clays I was one eye open only.. then trapper/instructor told me that was incorrect. So two eyes open was a big improvement. But here is my two eye open question. As i was putting the barrel of the gun up to my cheek to look down the barrel, (as i was told to get the barrel up high enough so that i just see the front sight and barely see the barrel), what i was doing was i was closing one eye to line up my sight to my eye/cheek and then opening both to acquire the clay. It got me thinking.. when you are lining up the sight do you line it up with both eyes open? maybe i was getting myself off angle by finding the sight with just one eye. By off angle i mean maybe i should be pulling the butt more across my face, so i'm centered (as opposed to it being more "right sided" because i lined it up with just my right eye) (if anyone cares.. i hit about 60%.. lol..)
  4. Cant believe nobody asked what town or what school this was.. This isnt even about 2nd ammendment.. it goes way beyond this .. it is about civil violations.. i wasnt even thinking about guns reading this entire travesty..
  5. Okay, we are off target here.. the problem is not the ear muffs fitting OVER the cap. the problem is that the typical baseball cap will fit on your head and will cover the skull to down BEHIND the top of your ears. When you were a kid you didnt remember having to play with your ears to "tuck" them under or leave them out? So as my Howard Leight Impact Sport muffs are trying to make an airtight seal to my skull they cannot because there is a small air space where the top of the muffs is on the ball cap. I see it happen to most people.. you can see the air gap between the muff and the rim of the hat. i notice a huge difference with the ear muffs when i am wearing the cap and not wearing, and i know its because the air seal is compromised with the hat on.. I guess i'm crazy for noticing this.. just wondered if anybody else thought so too.. (that is thought about the muffs, not think that i'm crazy.. lol)
  6. Started this sport wearing a cap with ear muffs over it (like everybody else). but then i noticed the cap obstructs the ear muffs from making an airtight seal on your head. so for a while i didnt wear a cap and was very happy with ear protection.. but then it happened.. my own brass ejected into my forehead.. so now i'm back to the cap. but it CLEARLY keeps the muffs from full capabilities. Do you guys just deal with it? Or are you aware and double up with plugs to compensate. Is there a cap in production that doesnt have a band that obstructs over the years so muffs get a full fit. I welcome your suggestions.
  7. from Gun Digest.. the first couple of pages of this is the history of 223 vs 556 pressures.. the last part is pretty good discussion about whether you are really 556 or not.. http://www.gundigest.com/223-vs-5-56
  8. actualy i should rephrase the prior to be more humble.. I mean, i never miss the target (if that would be the definition of someone who really needed help) I can hit the red more than i miss it.. But pro golfers still have coaches.. so i'm always looking to improve my skills.. that's why i asked..
  9. yeah i'm Dead On Balls.. (but that doesnt mean i don't think i can always improve)
  10. (sorry if this should be in "traning" section") When do you guys release the trigger? So you aim, start squeezing, BOOM, recoil, now: do you keep the trigger back?, follow through is done, and while you are re-acquiring the target do you release trigger THEN to start all over again? I never thought about it before, but i just realized that i release the trigger DURING recoil. I don't know if that is bad or good. I bet there is a best-fundamentals opinion on that.. please do tell..
  11. I'm very new, have a 22 semi-auto.. want to go see, and then eventually participate in steel matches.. can a 22 semi knock down steel targets? or is it only best for steel plinking? I eventually will get a larger caliber.. but for now i'm gathering info.. thanks..
  12. Aggravated assault? so any fight you get into (or allegedly get into) and get charged.. you are then banned? whoaaaa Nelly..
  13. I was always sorta hoping that if mine was typed it just might pass through easier.. but agree.. its sorta profiling almost.. now THAT would make an interesting newspaper article.... Where is that Star Ledger guy?
  14. Whatever happened to just doing the Electric Slide... ?

  16. Thanks for the concerns/info.. but i was really interested knowing more about different kinds of ammo, rather than asking about what the health risks are to lead exposure.. I was hoping to get info about different KINDS of jacketed/non-jacketed/all lead.. etc ammo.. Like is there anybody on this board that says "i shoot <fill in> because not only does it run good in my pistol, but it has less lead exposure..." ?? but lunker thanks for the PSA..
  17. Not that i'm paranoid, i just like to be informed. Someone briefly discuss the different kinds of ammo and pros/cons of the way the lead is propelled from the barrel. For example, i have read things like the difference between "plated" vs jacketed (the plated has lead exposure on the back, or vice versa). Lets keep it strictly handgun ammo discussion for now (so we won't get into rifle muzzle breaks and lead exposure to the side). I know there is a whole other debate about how lead affects the barrel, but right now i just want to learn about lead for health reasons. So maybe if someone can do a primer on the different kinds of bullets (FMJ, plated..etc) and what a shooter needs to know.. thanks! but again, i'd rather not get into a debate about whether lead exposure, in the grand scheme of all other dangerous things around my body, is dangerous or not.. that's a different topic. Right now i'd just like to know what my options are for ammo.
  18. So sorry for your flood loss. my neighborhood was devastated too.. anybody reading this that lives in flood prone areas should keep all important documents on the 2nd floor. I went up and down my stairs a hundred times during Irene.. i know its not pleasant looking to see a file cabinet (or safe) in bedroom areas. but better to do it now than during stressful times.
  19. anybody who says SWHC hasnt gone anywhere in a while isnt watching it. it has doubled in the past year. The Cerberus play isnt so much a play on gun companies.. its a play on AMMUNITION. Their goal is to get a monopoly on AMMUNITION. SWHC has a $300 million backlog of orders. I've owned for a while and am buying more even after the runup. I've said it before, guns is what like poker was ten years ago... its becoming a new pastime with tremendous growth.. just look how many gun TV shows there are now... When suburban desk jockeys (like myself) starting getting in that is cleary a sign of a new era.. here is a CNBC video from yesterday.. (sorry you have to wait 30 seconds through a commerciall.) http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=3000114651
  20. The video is them going through the tunnel.. and the video is down by lady liberty.. but i'm pretty sure the proposed route is predominantly weehawken. it absolutely wil not be going anywhere near the tunnel. And anybody who thinks racing is boring probably hasnt been to a live race. it gets your testosterone going as much shooting does. its so loud you actually will need your ear muffs if you go to the race. i'm definitely going.

    Holster Advice..

+1 +2 +3 for the guys who went out of their way to say "get a proper belt.." just tried it and holy crap.. i can't even imagine that weight (and high center of gravity) yanking on a leather belt.. fuggedaboutit.. now.. do you guys wear the holster belt IN ADDITION to the belt holding up your pants? or just the single tactical belt for both?
  22. When are thieves going to realize that citizens in internet cafes are armed, and they shoot back ! :-) (the other viral video from July was an internet cafe too..)
  23. the "official" HARP refi's only happen to people who currently have a mortgage that is backed by Freddie, Fannie or FHA. Which typically means you got a 30 year fixed rate full documentation loan (and it was $429k or below). And the loan needed to be originated before June 2009. If you meet that criteria, but have less than 20% equity in your home now (because your value dropped like everybody else) and you have been current making payments, then you can get a lower rate (about 4% now) via a streamlined refinancing through the HARP program. If your loan is not backed by freddie/fannie/FHA and you have less than 20% equity you do not qualify for a HARP loan. yes rates are extremely low right now and there are some great deals out there.. the Valley National $499 deal, but as stated above you need 20% down. If you took out a low-doc, or no-doc or subprime loan, then Freddie/Fannie/FHA is not your loan, and you have less than 20% equity you are S-O-L. What many people are doing take advantage of extremely low rates is to take money out of their savings to pay down the loan, to then qualify for a new loan at a lower rate. So if you're paying 5.5% or 6% but were only 10k or 20k away from being in the 20% equity zone think about doing that to get a 3.75% or 4% mortgage now. (of course only do this if you plan on staying in your house for a very long time). Many companies are using the "HARP" program name to get the business, even though its not a real harp.
  24. there are sooooooo many youtube videos about the CMMG conversion.. a guy named Plinkster installs his and then runs 6 different brands of ammo at 50 yards to compare the grouping.. great video..
