  1. RIA. held them, shot them, dont own one yet but its on my list. for the money you cant beat them. just remember that a 1911 REQUIRES maintenence. keep it clean and lubed and it will never fail you. being a 1911 owner is a commitment in and of itself. if you want something to shoot and throw back in the safe without worrying about cleaning or anything, get something more modern. just my 2 cents
  2. ok so to answer the first part of your question: Liability is assumed by the preson who discharged the firearm. Is it really that hard to understand? If i walk into an antique store and start breaking things who is liable? the store for being there? or me for doing the act? the answer is me. you can be liable for your actions without ill consequences (such as self-defense). another thing i find disturbing is that you believe police officers are trained in understanding laws. they are not. lawyers are. police are trained to uphold the law. basically protect society from falling, not individual people. but people who happen to be police may understand the laws as they are written. this is because they have common sense and at least average intelligence. i can also tell that you do nut fully understand murder charges. a self defense situation should result in a manslaughter charge if not handled properly, not murder. so you being a cop, can you tell me again who does and doesnt understand the laws? onto the second part: qualification should be tought to all. this system is already in place in many CCW states. many require you take a class that teaches you when and where to shoot or not shoot. problem solved and by the way, cops are some of the worst shots i have ever seen. unless they are gun people who shoot regularly on their own time. and i mean no offense to you or your beliefs. i just find that the average person is fully capable of protecting themself in a dire situation. now if we could just have our tools to even the odds against the crooks the world would be a better place
  3. 1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID). Initial FID w/ 1 permit 2. Police Department where you applied. Flemington PD 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. Det. Mariashin(sp?) He was very helpful and returned all my calls when I had questions. However, the officers there are either very disrespectful or just ignorant. They looked at me like I was crazy when i dropped off my app for 2 more permits last week 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. 3 weeks 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). None 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc.). As I said before the detective was very helpful. Everyone else, not so much. Some of them looked/sounded like it was the first time they had ever heard of the FID or pistol permits.
  4. I realize that but public ranges are expencive. Clubs seem like they cost alot but arent that bad if you think about it. The only free range is off 78 in clintol but thats shotgin and rimfire only.
  5. I don't know where you are located but there its Phillipsburg pistol club. I recently joined there and everyone i've meet is very friendly and helpful. Its a nice set up even tho it shows its age a little. Club dues are decently cheap.
